Born to an almost unremarkable household, Kegan inherits the civilised mannerisms of his Heartlander father and pragmatic values of his Highlander mother, being equally comfortable amongst deciphering ancient tomes and repairing rusty tools. Despite being relatively reserved in his childhood years, Kegan’s parents insisted on taking him to the market, or to visit neighbours, with clockwork regularity. This meant that he often had to interact with both neighbours and strangers, slowly but surely moulding him into a far more outgoing person.
Kegan was sent to a boarding school at the tender age of 10, undoubtedly made possible due to his family’s decent finances. He was quite diligent in his studies and excelled in certain sports, yet also at times rather rambunctious as boys of such ages tend to be. Then there were the inevitably heated political discussions with his schoolmates, for Kegan picked up on his father’s distrust regarding the Holy Orenian Empire, with additional skepticism towards most existing human nations.
Somewhat unusually Kegan was not given a proper surname. He knows his father’s surname, as most legitimate children tend to, but his father insisted that the boy make his own mark upon the world. He goes by Kegan Brightflame on occasions where one’s ‘full name’ is expected, yet ‘Brightflame’ is merely a not-entirely-complete description of his first name.
Despite considering various trades, such as entering into an apprenticeship or starting his own small business, Kegan decided to take his leave from his parents at the age of 16. He now travels the world and takes in all it has to offer, actively seeking out opportunities which allow him to flourish.
