Derian was born in a farming village near Helena and never traveled much in his life. The family relied on merchants to cart the family’s crops to the city to sell. Derian grew up, thus, as a farmer, and did not gain much of an education outside this field. He can read and write and do rough numbers, but only so far as was needed to keep track of paperwork.
When he was in his late teens, the merchant the family used to rely on grew ill, so his father started making the treks himself to sell their goods, leaving much more responsibility at Derian’s feet. This was fine for him though, he hardly complained at all. His father felt they needed more help though, and hired several farm hands, so Derian again had more free time to work with. He started accompanying his father to the city on occasion.
On one such venture, he met a girl. And as things go, he wanted to visit more. And stay longer. And eventually he moved to the city for good. But the relationship didn’t last of course. Now he is waiting for his father’s next visit to return to the farm.
