Thest is a Tuvati Human hailing from the Meranesian Islands. Thest is horribly disfigured and has very fragile skin, forcing him to live a life of constant agony, encased in a wrap of bandages and ointments. Thest was born to a poor but highly respected family of ship builders and spent much of his early life working in carpentry and weaving for his parents. Quickly becoming a shrewd and competent sailor, Thest led many expeditions into unexplored areas of the archipelago although his short temper and impulsive tendencies often put him in harms way. Despite his flaws, Thest was a confident and inspiring leader, quickly collecting a crew of followers devoted and loyal to him. By his mid 20s, Thest was a name known to many of the Tuvati for his daring feats and accomplishments, though Thest was not without his enemies. A competent medicine man of his tribe, most injuries and illnesses fell on him to treat. When he was 24, he was tasked to save a woman in the village named T’tasha, the village fletcher. Her husband Gar’th rushed her to Thest after she accidentally pierced her finger with a highly toxic arrowhead that she was working on. Try as he might Thest knew there was no saving T’tasha and she succumbed to the toxin within an hour. Gar’th was known as a very unstable individual amongst the tribe and upon being notified of his wife’s death lapsed into a silence that lasted a week when, on the 8th night since T’tasha’s death, he crept into the bunkroom of Thest and administered a sedative to keep him asleep, then pouring caustic acid on him from head to toe, scarring him for life. This was the defining event of Thest’s life as after the attack his demeanor changed entirely. Before, being a headstrong and confident man, Thest was now shy and reserved, his impulsive nature replaced with a cautious and sometimes cowardly one. Thest’s sanity quickly began to slip and he departed to Arcas and settled in the Talus Grove before the memories present in Meranesia destroyed what sanity he had left. Thest now lives a modest, ascetic life and has chosen to give up all violence.
