Balathor was the only born of two Farfolk merchants who traded in glass. There is no great family tragedy, his parents are alive and still continue their trading. His parents provided the only education he needed. His father taught him of his trade and the occasional lesson in fighting, but his father was no warrior. His mother taught him of the world, of the places she had seen and the miracles she had witnessed. This caused Balathor to grow restless and yearn for a more fulfilling life, as he described it. So when he was 21 he left them. He quickly realised that without any money you cannot survive, so he found a job as a caravan guard which provided his meals and enough salary to get by. However, after six years of being a caravan guard he realised this was not the fulfilling life he had envisioned for himself, so he struck out. With the money he had saved up he booked passage on a ship bound for Sutica.
