Nell was born and raised in The Free State of Sudica, where her parents settled down after finding themselves with child. Her parents were always wanderers and didn’t plan for Nell, but were able to settle down with what funds they had from writing childrens stories, and gave her a comfortable and happy childhood. As soon as she was 18, Nell made a life for herself, thirsting for whatever knowledge she could find and vowing not to settle down the same as her parents, no matter how happy they were. She would never stop exploring or learning. Due to her strong belief in that journey, Nell will only help others if it doesn’t inconvenience her in any big way.
She grew up reading and homeschooled by her well-learned parents, so she tends to be more in her head than not. With her parents also being children’s story writers, she’s grown up slightly more childish than she should be for her age. Nell doesn’t understand dissatisfaction with life--why would she when she can go wherever with no ties anywhere?
Nell isn’t one for violence, but the very first thing her parents taught her about being a wanderer is to never be without a way to defend yourself. She carries around two small daggers (one being backup in case she loses the other) but never uses them without hesitation (even to catch food in the wild).
She’s technically considered a highlander but Nell also considers herself outside of those labels. The only thing she considers herself is a wanderer and a learner.
Simply put, she’s a loner.
She’s only been out of her parent’s place for a year so she’s basically new to the whole world outside of her house, with only stories to go off of.
Nell lost her eyebrows in an accident right outside Sudica, when she first started out, a band of thieves had been camping when she wandered upon them. Thinking she was their for their loot, one attempted to hold her to their campfire before she stabbed him in the gut. In the short time she was facing the flames, it was enough for her eyebrows to burn away in patches. The hair on her head has filled in since then but she kept her eyebrows completely shaved since then because they grow back slowly.
