The Elvenguard Talonnii, loyal soldiers and citizens of Celia’nor, have approached the Aevaris Talonnii to request some land in order to establish a new home for themselves. After friendly negotiations, the following terms were agreed to:

 

1. The Elvenguard Talonnii shall swear an oath of loyalty and service to the Aevaris Talonnii and to Celia’nor.

2. The Elvenguard Talonnii shall provide a household guard and its equipment to the Aevaris Talonnii upon request or upon any threat to the holdings of the Aevaris. The guard force shall obey all legal orders given by Aestenia, Ellisar or Glynfir Aevaris.

3. The Elvenguard Talonnii shall be granted land to the south of Starpool to construct a keep, which will serve as their home and training ground.

4. The Elvenguard Talonnii shall pay a yearly tax of 30 mina.

5. After 15 years this agreement may be renewed by both parties or dissolved by either party.

6. This agreement may only be altered prior to the renewal date if both parties are in agreement to do so.

Prince Illarion had been always been willing to listen to his ideas and help bring them to fruition. The Aevaris Talonnii are proud to announce that construction has been completed on the village of Starpool.

Named for the peaceful lake on which it sits, Starpool is the first phase of development under the Concord of Wine and Wealth. Starpool was built to provide a place for entertainment and relaxation for the hard-working citizens of Celia'nor. It features a new guildhall for the Brewer's Guild of Celia'nor, a new theatre with a resident bard show, bakery, and a greenhouse which will stock all the herbs a brewer might wish for. Residents of Starpool are granted generous lots among the green fields of vines, hops, and wheat. All of this overlooking the serenely peaceful lake Starpool.

As Ellisar arrived home he was told the news by his wife Aestenia. He grumbled as he sat down, memories of Friedrich flooding back to him. It was Friedrich who had given him a second military career, it was Friedrich who had led Ellisar and his comrades in arms through so many battles. When his family had been forced from their home, it was Friedrich who had welcomed them to Haense. There were only a few commanders Ellisar would've followed into any situation, and Lord Marshal Friedrich Barclay was one. He sat in that chair for the rest of the evening, remembering his friend.

It is hoped that once the Order is more established that the role of Grandmaster will return to being an elective position. Kolvar Lyln Valwynn, a woman who has dedicated her entire life into the field of soldiering. At a very young age, she began the journey of her life and career as a guard, swearing an oath to protect others at any cost. As time went on, she gained more experience through various services. Kolvar soon began to study the teachings of medicine on the front line. SECTION ONE: PURPOSE
 

The purpose of the Order of Sil’Malin is first and foremost to protect the people of Malin'or, to preserve their unity and security. The secondary purpose is to help all mali, wherever they may be, through hospitality and cooperation with other nations. The duties of the Order may include such tasks as defending the borders of Malin’or, clearing bandits from a busy road, aiding physicians to cure an outbreak of disease, setting up a house for traveling mali to rest in, or engaging dangerous beasts in combat. The knights of the Order serve as inspiration to all the people of Malin'or; they must be just, virtuous and steadfast in their duties. Their character must be honourable and their motives true.

SECTION TWO: ORGANIZATION

Chapters:

The Sil’Malin consists of several chapters to ensure that the Order is well organized, represented throughout Malin’or and able to respond as needed throughout the lands it represents. This is also to ensure that it shan’t become too difficult to manage, alongside being able to take on multiple tasks without overtaxing one chapter. Each chapter is assigned to defend one specific part of Malin’or and to protect the citizens of that area and keep the peace, though the chapters may all unite when needed such as times of war or crisis.

Each chapter is obligated to coordinate with and alongside the local military for the defense of whatever country they find themselves in. Knights are encouraged to enlist in the military of the nation in which they reside in addition to serving in the Order. However, they must continue to uphold the main ideals and values of the Order and continue to protect the mali in the country in which they are in. They must respect the laws and keeping of the government of the country they are located in informed of their (gotta continue writing this one)

While it is necessary for each chapter to remain consistent with the others and to keep the main values and objectives of the Order and to answer to the Grandmaster when called upon, they are otherwise rather free-form. They are allowed to institute their own traditions and make minor changes to the uniform to indicate their chapter.

Governance:

The order is governed by a body known as the council of Masters. This council is made up of all chapter masters within the order. They all make their decisions by voting, unless the decision has been imposed by the grand master. However, if the majority of the council does not agree with the grand master, they can call a meeting in which they vote against the grandmaster

A second council can be found within the order, which is made up of the veteran knights of each chapter. These council members meet every two elven weeks to decide which squires are ready to be knighted and what their chapter needs.
 

SECTION THREE: STRUCTURE

Ranks:

The Grandmaster: 

The highest commander of the Order, the Grandmaster, has absolute authority over the Order, ensuring the unity of the people of Mali’nor and keeping the Order functioning at its highest standard. A vote is taken each (not yet decided) to elect a new Grand Master.

Chapter Master:

Members of the Order who command their own respective chapters, Chapter Masters hold absolute authority over their branches. They are free to establish their own practices and traditions within their chapters, and they are authorized to call a meeting between the other chapter masters and the Grandmaster whenever they see fit.

Veteran Knight:

Veteran Knights are the men and women who have proven their experience and reliability within their chapter. Their duties are no different from those of a normal knight, but they play a crucial part in choosing if a squire is to be knighted, meeting every 2 elven weeks to decide so.

Knight:

Full fledged members of the Order, these are the men and women who have taken the oath of knighthood and constitute the bulk of the military force of the Order. Each knight can have their own objectives and tasks chosen personally by themselves. Knights are permitted to take on secondary duties and titles within their Order if they choose to do so.

Squire:

Initiate members within the Order, these are new recruits who are under the tutelage of a single knight or veteran knight to prove their worth to be knighted. They are given a set of trials they must complete before they may request to be knighted, after which the veteran knights will hold a meeting to discuss whether the squire is ready to be knighted.

Specialized Positions:

Chapter's Librarian:

The Librarians are very cultured members of the Order. They are responsible for documenting the history of their chapter and researching the history of Malin’or, keeping everything well documented and preserved.

Chapter's Apothecary:

The Apothecaries of the Order are highly medically qualified members. They are responsible for the treatment of injured knights in their chapter and the preparing and preserving of medicine.

Chapter's Warlock:

The Warlocks  are the most powerful magi of their chapter. They are responsible for assisting in the Order’s goals by use of their magical prowess, while also teaching other Mali the arcane.

SECTION FOUR: MEMBERSHIP

Before one becomes a squire in the Order, they must first meet all the requirements to become one:
 

• To possess some quantity of Malin's blood.

• To identify and embrace the Malin Heritage.

• To be prepared to take vows to uphold the values of the Order of Malin.

• To be free of criminal charges and to be of good character.

They will then have to submit themselves to one of the veteran knights, who will decide if the potential recruit is suitable to be allowed within the Order. If the recruit is accepted, they will be enlisted under the supervision of a single knight, whom they must follow and serve during their time as a squire. The knight will train and prepare the recruit to become a full knight and help them to pass their trials.

Trial of Strength

The squire must fight against three veteran knights to prove that they are able to fight and wield a sword. While winning is not a requirement, the squire must show apt ability in defense and offense to pass the trial.

Trial of Knowledge

The squire must write a book in which he records the journey of his supervising knight, writes about a legend of Malin, or writes about an art the squire has mastered. Once he has finished writing it, it must be brought to the veteran knights to judge its quality.

Trial of Loyalty

The squire must prove his loyalty to the veteran knights, either by giving up something of great importance to them, by completing a difficult task or whatever else may be asked of them.

Upon Completion of the Trials, a squire will be sworn in as a knight of the Sil’Malin.

All sworn knights will be entitled to use the honourific of Sil, meaning sword in Elven, as a reminder of their sworn duties and to acknowledge their accomplishments in becoming a knight of the Sil’Malin.

SECTION FIVE: CODEX
-Do justice wherever you venture, but be vigilant, for every coin has two sides.

-In all things, be honest, courteous and truthful.

-If an enemy surrenders, treat them with mercy.

-Your weapons, horse and armour are vital to your survival. Maintain them well.

-Obey your commanders and the laws of the Order and its host nation.

-Serve the nation hosting your chapter house, both to promote and to maintain good relations between the host nation and the order.

The Aevaris Talonnii

Family, Service, Honour

History

The Aevaris talonni traces its origins to the days of republican Haelun’or when Ellisar Aevaris and Aestenia Loralynn were married. For many years the family found some measure of peace and happiness there. Ellisar served as a sillumir, eventually being elected to the post of Okarir’tir. Aestenia managed the city’s tavern and was a well regarded physician. Their brother, Glynfir, was also a serving Sillumir and the three fought together through many battles of the Inferi war. Glynfir had been a child soldier, forced into harsh training by the old Diarchist government of Haelun’or. He wouldn’t remove his helmet for years, and went only by his first name.

With the fall of the republic, the family and their young oem’ii - Filvendor, Eden, and Astryn - were forced to flee Haelun’or lest they wind up in the acid pits for not toeing the new government’s line. They and many other ‘aheral families settled in Haense. Glynfir and Ellisar resumed their trade as soldiers, fighting with the HRA and BSK through many battles and Ellisar serving as a Lieutenant and Engineer. Aestenia returned to her work in the medical field becoming Surgeon General of Haense. It was in Haense that Ellisar and Aestenia welcomed their second youngest, Fenlar, who had to remain hidden in their frontierland estate lest the Haelun’orians hunting ‘impures’ or those born outside of Haelun’orian lands find him. Later, their youngest son, Eldrin, would endure the same though he was only an infant. During this time, their son Filvendor became a highly skilled alchemist, even beginning to teach the craft to his younger brother Fenlar. Eden, their eldest daughter, became a fully qualified physician, following in her mother’s footsteps. It was also during their stay in Haense that Glynfir was adopted into the Aevaris talonni.

As many other ‘aheral left Haense, the Aevaris remained, hoping to soften the hard attitude many had against mali in that nation. As their dear friends eventually passed on, and with no other mali to socialize with, the decision was eventually made to move to the lands of Fenn. Departing Haense on good terms, they resettled in Fenn with the most falling into their habitual careers once more. There, the Prince of Fenn formally acknowledged Glynfir’s adoption as an Aevaris. With the dissolution of the Princedom of Fenn, the Aevaris had to move once more. It was decided at this time that Glynfir should take up the position of Laurir of the family in order to grant Ellisar and Aestenia some time to rest and as acknowledgement of all Glynfir had contributed to the talonnii.

Finally, they settled in Celia’nor. Upon their arrival, the Princess Ivarielle graciously awarded the family the noble rank of Laurir and land on which to build their manor. As of the time of writing, it remains to be seen what the Aevaris will make of themselves within this new nation.

Values & Beliefs

The Aevaris talonnii value family above all, as is reflected in their family motto of “Family, Service, Honour”. This has been especially true since having to flee their homeland. The need for family security has been a driving factor in the military careers of both Ellisar and Glynfir, and the medical careers of Aestenia and Eden.

The family also has a strong tradition of service to the country they reside in, believing it to be their duty to serve in some capacity. Alchemists within the family supply the government, soldiers defend the land, and the doctors help the sick and injured.

Honour is important to the Aevaris as well. They will always try to do the right thing and follow their conscience, though will do whatever is necessary to protect their family.

The Aevaris tend to have a very dim view of the ‘aheral concept of purity and the ideological superiority that it feeds in current day Haelun’orian thinking. Having lived in so many different nations with so many different people and gotten to see first hand their abilities and skills, and being embraced as friends in each new home has soured most Aevaris’ on the concept of the ‘lesser’ or ‘mali’ata’. Instead, most of the family finds itself supporting the newest iteration of mali unity, hoping that it will lead to a safer and more peaceful future for their family and friends.

Appearance

The members of the talonnii tend to have light hair, pale skin and blue or green eyes. They tend to be around 6' tall. Many carry battle scars or wear artificial limbs.

THE ORDER OF EVARIRAN MALIN'OR

FOUNDATION

It was a quiet evening in Celia’nor when Prince Illarion wandered into the Leaky Dolphin tavern. There was only one other patron, a soldier of the Celiadiraar named Ellisar Aevaris. The Prince ordered a bottle of his favorite drink and walked over to the soldier’s table. Introductions were made, and the newfound drinking companions soon found themselves a tad inebriated. As alcohol had eroded Illarions good manners ever so slightly, he began to ask Ellisar about the wars and battles he’d fought in. Soon the Prince was regaled with somewhat accurate war stories about demons, trolls, the importance of siege craft, dry socks, and life as a soldier in different armies. Ellisar, also feeling the effects of the alcohol, then blurted out an idea he’d had in the back of his mind for years and which the Prince found to be most interesting. An order of knights; mali knights, dedicated to the new strength and unity of Malin’or. An order dedicated to helping the citizens of Malin’or, regardless of race or creed. Great soldiers, veterans, and warriors would be gathered together to form a powerful force to safeguard this new elven unity. The drinking companions considered the matter solved to their great satisfaction and ordered another round or two to celebrate.

Ellisar was awoken the next morning by Prince Illarion's envoy pounding on his home's front door. Upon giving entry to the envoy, a chest was handed to him with a letter attached from the Prince himself. The chest contained several sheets of parchment, quill, and ink. After spending a short moment to enjoy some afternoon tea, they would both sit down to read the letter before beginning to organize on paper the proper structure and personnel for such an institution. Eventually letters would be sent to select individuals inviting them to join the Order.

In a stable and safe city far away a former Okarir'tir of Haelun'or sat in a comfy chair near a roaring fire. He read over the missive quickly, emitting a low scoff. "Good governance and Haelun'or are like oil and water." he'd grumble. Tossing the paper into the fire, he'd lean back in his chair for a quick nap.

Ellisar Aevaris received the news of Fionn's death from his wife Aestenia. He sunk into a nearby chair, placing his head in his hands for a moment.  "At the very least, he went out like a proper soldier." he'd mumble before rising out of the chair to get a carrion cocktail out of the stash in the kitchen. Raising it up in the air, he'd toast "To lieutenant Fionn Castaway, a great friend, drinker and soldier." before chugging half the bottle and sinking back into the chair to finish the bottle in a sullen mood.

Ellisar Aevaris would never forget that doomed patrol. Only the brave actions of Dame Marie had gotten him and the other soldiers out of there alive. While he tended his own wounds in his home, he could only think of revenge on the beasts which had done this. Eventually his thoughts would turn to Marie and her family, those kind and good people who had been nothing but welcoming to his own family. "Citizens of Haelun'or, it is with heavy heart that I, Ellisar Aevaris, resign my position of Okarir'tir effective immediately. Though I am newly elected to the position, I cannot in good conscience continue to serve this nation's government. I do not believe in the path this government is taking. Stomping out debate, planning to execute those who dare disagree with them, perverting our people's purity into a means to seize and hold power only for themselves. Today they target lessers, but a state which operates thus will only ever find another group to be the enemy, it can never know peace.

I know they will brand me a traitor, an impure, a fool. This is the price for obeying one's conscience. I bear the scars of my many long years of service to the Silver State, and if I ever forget how loyally I served, they will remind me.

A Call to Trial

“Recently, a writing was distributed titled ‘An Essay on Purity and the ‘Aheral Mindset’ by Eos Sinruil. This essay contains the following passage: ‘Mali’aheral may romance whoever they want, but they must understand that if it’s not an ‘aheral that they plan to settle down with, then it’s nothing more than a childish fling. If one has already done their duty to the Silver City by having high elven children, then some would argue that there is frankly no harm in an interracial or homosexual relationship-- as long as they don’t procreate.’ 

This inflammatory and impure writing cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged as published thought within our society.

Thus, in my role as Okarir’tir, I, Ellisar Aevaris, hereby formally charge Eos Sinruil with breach or incitement to breach the following laws:

CHAPTER I, ARTICLE 10.   The Blessed Residents of The Silver State of Haelun’or will not tolerate the willful spreading of false or misleading information.

CHAPTER II, ARTICLE 1. The Blessed Residents of The Silver State of Haelun’or shall not participate in physical fraternization outside of marriage.

CHAPTER II, ARTICLE 3.   The Blessed Residents of The Silver State of Haelun’or shall not participate in public fraternization of an intimate nature.

CHAPTER II, ARTICLE 4.   The Blessed Residents of The Silver State of Haelun’or shall not participate in fraternization of any intimate sort with impures, or other races.

CHAPTER II, ARTICLE 6.   The Blessed Residents of The Silver State of Haelun’or shall not participate in intimate fraternization of a homosexual nature.

As a result of these charges, Eos Sinruil is called to publicly recant this writing and edit further copies to remove these illegal statements. Furthermore, a public apology should be issued for their misguided literary works on the 9th of Sun’s Smile, year 6 of the Second Age. Failing to meet these conditions will result in a full trial, with the accused to be judged by three parir’tir in accordance with the Silver Law.

Ellisar would remain in the square to answer the asked questions. Turning to Alluin, he would offer the following reply.

"Alluin, I wasn't going to question my commanding officer in public and in uniform when we had that discussion. Though let me be clear today, once and for all. I followed the guidance of the Maheral, Sohaer and the majority of council. Celiasil Uradir has earned my respect and was acting with the support of our government. I had my doubts, which I brought to Celiasil privately and had resolved. The rule of law is most important to any functioning society and nothing was determined to be illegal, despite your opinion on the matter. To answer your question: were it to happen again, I would follow the law as determined by the council. If a law is broken, I would enforce it."

"As to your question to all of us, yes, there have been unfortunate problems. Bandits, violent criminals and strange creatures have caused these problems. Unfortunately, dealing with such things is part of being open to the world. If we, as a nation, wish to trade, interact and participate in this world we must remain open. None of our citizens are conducting inappropriate relationships with lessers that I am aware of, no mali'ata are being born within our walls. If carrying on a casual acquaintance with a non 'thill is to be considered impurity how will we function? How will we maintain alliances necessary to our security? How will we trade for goods? I believe you see our doom in something that is a simple necessity of being a nation on the global stage. Don't marry your trading partner or the valah soldier you train with and we'll maintain our most sacred and valued purity. As concerns the Azdrazi, they are bound to us by the Pact. They have fought with us in battles to preserve Mali'thill lives and values. The Titan himself healed my wounds while I was helping to defend the city. To forestall your concern, no I do not worship him. I recognize that we have signed an agreement and they have shown their value to Haelun'or. To summarize my long winded answer: we must safeguard our purity but this must be balanced by realism."

Ellisar would catch his breath after such a long response and await any further questions, remaining in the square.

A fully uniformed Ellisar would make his way to the square in front of the Citadel of Karinah’siol. Clearing his throat slightly, he pulls a piece of paper from a pouch on his uniform and keeps it in hand.

"Karin'ayla everyone. Ahernan for taking the time to hear me out today." Ellisar looks around at the crowd before continuing. "I am here to announce my candidacy for the post of Okarir'tir, with the goal of continuing the fine work of the past Okarir'tir, Celiasil Uradir while modernizing and reforming Elsillumiran as needed." He would pause before continuing.

"For those that do not know, my name is Ellisar Aevaris. I've served as Tilruir'sil of the Sillumiran since 1776 in the First Age, with a total of 24 years of service with Elsillimuran. In that time I've found a career that is challenging yet rewarding, made many close lliran, raised a family, and hopefully been of good service to the Silver State. Throughout my service the Sillumiran have faced many challenges and overcome just as many. The policies and reforms I intend to introduce are designed to continue this success as well as ensure the continued safety of our people and city. I would like to outline these further for you now." Ellisar glances down at his paper before beginning again.

"If elected my first priority would be to undertake a comprehensive review of the city's defences. Strengthening our walls and fortifications will ensure our ability to defend ourselves from attack, keep unwanted visitors out, and endure any possible sieges. My second initiative ties in closely with the first. It is the adoption of cannon. I have seen these weapons wielded to great effect in battle, and I believe in order to match any possible opponents in the field Sillumiran must be trained in their use and our defences modified to accommodate them. Construction of additional towers able to hold these weapons may be required, something that I would coordinate closely with our Okarir'nor." He pauses for a breath and looks around the listening crowd again.

"Another initiative I would undertake is to develop a system of intelligence gathering. Too often we are caught unawares, unable to locate offenders or left in the dark as to the intentions of other nations. This would be a long-term project as the very nature of this work involves time and careful planning, however I believe it will yield good results in time. Aside from that, I would introduce a system of court-martial for serious offences committed by any active member of the Silver State's military. This would, of course, be subservient to the nation's existing judicial structure and require council approval. However, I believe it would streamline disciplinary measures within Elsillumiran. Finally, I intend to continue our stepped up training in combat techniques, formations, drill and military procedure as well as our determined recruiting drive that has seen many new Halerir join the ranks in the recent past."

"In regards to the judicial and legislative roles of the Okarir'tir position, rest assured I would continue to uphold our existing laws, customs, and the Constitution of 1774. On assuming office I would undertake a review of existing laws, directed by the Silver Council to address any issues or gaps that may exist within our legal structure. I would also see the Sillumiran be more available to help the citizens of Haelun'or should they face issues such as burglary, violence and so on. It has always been my belief that Elsillumiran exist to serve the people and government of Haelun'or and work to erase the mistrust and fear of past eras." Ellisar would pause again, making eye contact with familiar faces amongst those listening.

"I hope that you will consider giving me your vote and your trust. My door, just above the tavern" he points "is always open should anyone wish to discuss anything I have said or any concerns you have. Ahernan for your time and for your consideration."

Ellisar would fold the paper back into a pouch, nod to those in the crowd, and depart the square to resume his duties.

Ellisar Aevaris was handed a copy of the letter by a passing citizen while standing outside the city's gatehouse. Though the contents of the letter were not news to him, the official nature of the letter brought it home. His commander was moving on to other things, the one commander he had known for his decades of service within the Sillumiran. The commander who had led Ellisar and all the soldiers of Haelun'or into battle against infernal legions and seen them through it. The commander who had seen fit to give Ellisar a career he loved. He hoped that Celiasil would enjoy his well earned rest, and he hoped that the Sillumiran would strive to remain worthy of their now retired Okarir'tir.
