Born into an impoverished family in the Kingdom of Haense in the County of Ayr, Edmond Burne grew up faster than any child should. Not long after his birth, the frigid winters and frozen summers led to the death of his aging father, an event that necessitated in Edmond’s quick growth. From a young age, Edmond learned to put food on the table and wood in the furnace, keeping both his mother and sister alive. This lifestyle persisted for a decade, up until his fifteenth birthday, wherein Edmond met Ser Tarkus Gulmire, an estranged Knight from the Crownlands. Offering Tarkus lodging for a night, the pair quickly grew to understand one another. After a night of drinking, tales, and laughter, Edmond begged Tarkus to take him on as a Squire, to which Tarkus accepted. In the years that followed, Edmond kept close behind Tarkus as they traveled throughout the neighboring kingdoms, leaving both his mother and sister behind with tearful goodbyes. He learned everything from the aging Knight, from swordplay, to the maintenance of his armor, to how to care for a steed. It was a comfortable, though strenuous, life that continued until Edmond’s twenty-ninth birthday. On that day, after teaching Edmond everything that he knew, Tarkus passed from the world, leaving behind his armor, his blade, and little else. Taking it, Edmond set out, once again, for the Kingdom of Haense, in search of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl that’d heard about from Tarkus.
