Born on the isle of Judi, Elke spent the first years of her life raised among the Saltfolk. Her parents were lower class merchants, and she had an older sister (who she had never met, and whose disappearance she knew little of) and two younger brothers.
At 16, she volunteered, half-heartedly, to participate in a year-long exodus to spread the High Faith. Beneath the religious nature of the trip was a growing desire to escape the entrapped culture of the isles she grew up in. When this exodus neared its conclusion, she saught an escape, and attempted (now wholeheartedly) to assimilate into the culture she had aimed to convert. Since this drastic shift, she’s found shelter working at the single port in the Haven Islands of Vectra, among previously exiled humans that had found a home on Strast.
For the next 7 years, Elke would become accustomed to the high-risk environment that the islands and their unique flora and fauna provided, learning to anticipate danger around every corner. This anxiety was heightened by her runaway status in Judi, and she often kept an open ear for any information about her home isle. Living among the Haven Islands, navigating the wilderness became a comfortable, though dangerous, habit, especially when necessary to gather resources. Despite a sometimes cold outward appearance, the traders and civilians that pass through Strast’s port are a source of comfort in an otherwise on-edge lifestyle for Elke.
