Arthur was raised in the Holy Orenian Empire, living with a small but well-off merchant family. His father, Richard, was initially a sailor, hailing from the City of Haense. After having met with a fare lady, Diana, Richard decided to settle down in the Holy Orenian Empire, starting a trade in exotic perfumes and fish mongering. Arthur was raised with three other siblings, John, Godric and Mildred. Richard never took an interest in his children, Diana left to care for them. Richard had picked up a lust for gold, putting his children as a secondary concern. The siblings fought for mothers attention, however Mildred was always her favourite. And at the age of 12, Arthur giving up took a like to picking on poorer families and flaunting his pocket earnings where he could. This attracted the attention of an all-male, Middle Class society, varying in ages, sizes and backgrounds, called the " Club". Reputable for bad behaviour, vandalism, and banqueting in-front of the local poor. By 15, Arthur's life would drastically change. Being pressured by fellow club members, Arthur and two other boys, Jack and William, would play a sadistic prank on a local city girl, Hilda. Convincing Hilda to sneak out from home late into the evening, the four teenagers would peer pressure and tease Hilda to the local, rickety, log bridge. After several hours, as Hilda was peeking down at the river, Jack, with all concerns momentarily faded away, cruelly decided to frighten her with a push. She screamed and yelped, as she fell over the edge, plunging into the river. Arthur momentarily paralyzed in the moment, for neither of the boys could swim, as she frantically tried to stay afloat. Then there was silence. The boys would flee the scene, all in guilt and fear of discovery. The girls body was never found, and the following days, Jack would go missing, last being seen fleeing from the city. William and Arthur both swore to never mention the incident. During the two weeks that passed, Arthur's mother died from disease. Arthur, believing God had punished him, fell into depression and would be dissipated of all ambitions. His siblings would go on to work for their father but Arthur's depression would leave him left alone and unwilling to do anything. His father neglecting his depression would kick him out the following year, "You're a lazy, no good freeloader!" being the last words he'd remember from his father. It was during this dark time he'd understand what true hardship was. Abandoned by those he called friends, and being hated by the fellow local beggars, Arthur was driven away from the market district, to the other-side of the city and left to fend for himself. Arthur, for the first time in his life, was completely alone. It was during this time he turned to the Church of Canon for hope, sparsely attending services, seeking in some unknowing way to repent for his past sins. During one of his lonely nights, Arthur, sleeping uncomfortably on the cold, stone bricks, would have an epiphany. It was only God's will that mattered. Those that suffer, those that indulge in every sin was ultimately illusory and all life would eventually end. Only those who remained faithful to God would be liberated from the material plane. With a surge of faith Arthur pledged a silent allegiance to God, to dedicate himself as a servant of his will. Arthur, now 18, began his sacred mission to aid the Church, and impose God's will either through faith or the sword. His first step was to adopt the name of Alphaeus, abandoning both Arthur and his familial name. For several years, Alphaeus worked hard around the city and for the nearby village, picking up new skills and by 25, was ready to start his pious journey.
