As a kid Esrial was a hard worker, he was praised by his grandfather, he had lost his parents in a small beast attack at the edge of the village he knew as Haense. As he was working in the field he met another kid called Soro and he was a scrawny kid not very suited for this kind of work and so they made a deal that if Esrial did his work he would give him half of his earning that he got and so they did.
After a while they became good friends and a day came where a caravan came to town and him and Esrial decided to go there together to try and become great merchants. As they travelled they sold there little bit of wheat and other things along the way and then bought some stuff from different towns with the money they earned and then sold it in different, they slowly worked there way up in life. A day came where Soro became attracted to the caravan leaders daughter and the feelings were mutual, and so they got married. But this day signed Esrial for suffering as Soro who now had been given power slowly became corrupt with it and Esrial who he had been great friends with was now thrown into the mud and Soro from then on always picked on him and took Esrials earnings. One day came where there caravan was attacked by beasts and Esrial had to pick up sword and fight and they had made it through but not without losing half of his little wares.
A few months later Esrial was surrounded by Soro and his 5 goons nearly in the forest beside the trail they were following and they were asking him to hand over more wares then he currently had, but they didn’t accept it and were about to start beating down on him when a wolf pack who were prowling around burst out and started attacking. Esrial was on the lucky side, he was surrounded by the goons and they were in a situation where they had to protect themselves but also Esrial. But at this time reinforcements came and helped them and once they were fine Soro got angry at Esrial for not fighting started a rouse with the leader that Esrial left them to die and so with Soro leading the charge they attacked Esrial and he ran, and once he was out of energy he continued to run until his legs wouldn’t listen to him and he fell, but by this time he had luckily lost the followers and he dragged himself up to lean on a tree and his last thought before he fell asleep was “This was the harshness of reality, and also the beauty of fate. In this world, everyone is a main character, but everyone is a side character…” and with that realisation, he passed out.
Once he woke up he was soaked, realising it had rained, he smiled as he had been lucky lately as it had covered his tracks. So he set out again picking the direction opposite of where he came from and ran. A year past and he was sitting in a bar looking out the window in a city he had just arrived in, seemingly being from his little knowledge Oren. His first goal being the obvious, lodging.
