Demeter is every inch the cliche strapping farmhand. Born to Karl and Helena Larch, he grew up far south of Sutica where he learnt the trades of agriculture and logging. His isolated upbringing combined with a vivid imagination led to him often dreaming of lands beyond the sun-bleached plains, often to the detriment of his work. He would imagine himself a Vailorian hero as he chopped at trees, each blow felling a mighty enemy. Every year he would receive gifts from his uncle Theo (a merchant working within the city). One of his most prized possessions is one such gift; a scarf made from fine wood-elven fabric.
And that's it, frankly. There's no dark past, no important bloodline or hidden powers. I'm partly leaving him a bit of a blank slate to develop his character by playing (my usual method), and partly to play it up a s a quirk. He's as basic, as generic as a daydreaming farmhand can get. If given an opportunity to go adventuring he'll gladly take it; but almost always as a supporting role.
If this were a JRPG, he'd be the first generic fighter you'd recruit in the party. As a tutorial. And then be forgotten as you focus on levelling up the more interesting characters.
