Born in a very small town known as "Kaldigain," Shadow grew up as a single child with only a father. His father was almost never around, but when he was, Shadow adored him and aspired to be the kind-hearted man that his father was. As he grew up, he made a group of friends, and they called themselves the "Heroes of Kaldigain." Shadow, though, was no hero. When Shadow's father passed away, he seemed happier to all of the other kids. However, one kid got too curious, and when he explored Shadow's house, he had found the father in some sort of deformed, trace-like state. Shadow's dad had been possessed by what the people of Kaldigain call "Elderhitches." (See lore below.) After the boy was forced to kill the father (Because the father attacked him) Shadow slaughtered the friend in a fit of rage. Shadow had thought that the dad was just sick, and could not see his ailment. But after he had killed the boy, he went and slaughtered his other friends, fearing that they were plotting against him and his family. However, when the father died, the Elderhitch cursed Shadow with the blood of his friend, creating his deformed appearance and shadowy aura that surrounds him. Now, he must wear gloves and a cloak to protect others and hide his deformed state, for if he touches others, he may spread the curse, or worse, send them into a state like his father was. Shadow reamined traumatized by what he had done his whole life, and vows to never become that monster again. Pain can do a lot to a person, but Shadow was at fault.
Now, Shadow travels place to place, looking for a calm place to settle down, and maybe make some friends again.
Elderhitches
These dangerous spirits were manifested as a warning to mankind in Kaldigain. Many years ago, when an ancient mage challenged Miria, the god of magic, and won, Mira went into a merciless rage, slaughtering the people of Kaldigain. The spirits of those slaughtered there stay in Kaldigain as a constant reminder from Miria, to never mess with a god. Now, the occasional lucky soul that forgets to wear a warding stone around their neck, are possessed, cursed, or killed by the Elderhitches.
Curse Rune
The curse rune that is in Shadow's eye was placed there by the Elderhitch, and was made from the blood of his friend. It curses him forever, and countless mages have attempted to remove it, but to no avail, all have died from the curse. Shadow wears his cloak all the time to help him try to forget about it, but the memories always seem to flood back, like a haunting shadow hangs over him.
