He was a servant since birth to a noble in Norland and grew up along side the noble's son. Despite being in completely different circumstances the two grew close. He served the son throughout his life, attending private classes not meant for people of the servant background. He made the threadbare suit of his out of the noble's old clothes and used a dull rapier to their defense. The other servants knew him as the penniless noble, a title he proudly bore. As he learned of the world through many books read through his little free time, he decided to run away. Not out of pain or loss, but the ever-growing hunger for adventure. With the promise that he'd return to his friend when they both shared similar status.
He has little experience of combat, but he was taught the art of dueling with his friend. Although he did tend to lose most of the time. He however is more of a scholar and had a fondness for reading and did so whenever he got his hand on a book. He did learn basic blacksmithing from the GoldHands during his travels, but not enough to make anything valuable alone.
