Ireyana was raised by her father, Iregeon, her mother, Nairastra, and her paternal grandmother, Irecaryn on a small homestead in the Vale of Nevaehlen. They practiced farming techniques passed through their family for generations, and were entirely responsible for Ireyana's education. She did not have many friends as a child, one set of neighbors moving away and the others succumbing to illness. The nearest settlement was far enough away that her father always made the trip without her. In many ways, he relied on her to watch after her mother and grandmother once she was old enough to be of any use, as her parents had her fairly old, and were quickly losing physical prowess throughout her childhood. Her grandmother taught her herbalism, her mother lessons in culture, and her father how to work and fight. Ireyana is a fairly well rounded young woman, though she severely lacks social skills. Her grandfather, who she never met, had a Matron in Nemiisae, and Ireyana hero-worships him and his relation to the goddess. She wants to travel the world to discover her own deep, personal relationship with nature and the gods, to develop her own spirituality until she has the opportunity to be a Crone. As her grandmother ages, her parents have sworn that they will relocate to a more populous area once she passes. This gives Ireyana the confidence to finally leave home and start her journeys.
