Iain Ciar was born to two human lower class citizens of Norland. Although Iain's parents struggled to get by, they were happy because they had each other. Then one day after Iain parents left him to go find some work they never came back. A few days later their corpses where found stripped of what little they had and tossed into a ditch. Iain was rendered homeless and orphaned. Forced to fend for himself he had learned how to survive on the streets. He had learned some essential skills like cooking, stealth, hunting, sewing, and basic medicinal knowledge (like how to make poultices, how to bandage wounds, how to sew up wounds, etc). Although being a street rat made him not very sociable he learned a lot about men and mer.
Into his teenage years, finding work was hard, and keeping work was even harder. Iain was able to get by, although barely. Iain formed a strong attachment to nature, for he used the things he had found in the surrounding forests to help him survive. But he has always wondered if there was more to life than scrounging for scraps, he dreamed of getting enough money to be able to travel, see the world meet different peoples, learn different languages, and perhaps learn a bit of magic. Although Iain was very street smart, he was not very book smart and sought to remedy this. He was able to come across a traveler who was able to teach him how to read, but he still wants to learn more. This has given Iain a desire for knowledge whether it is in blacksmithing, or magic, or culture, or anything he could get his hands on.
