Leonardo Brotel was born in the month of Sun’s Smile. He grew up on a farm with his family, as well as their family friends, the Frosthearts. He is the youngest of 3 kids. When he was only a few years old, a huge catastrophe happened in his family. His father discovered his mother cheating on him with his family friend, Eleonore’s father. He was forced to move away as a result and faced the constant fighting between his parents. His older siblings moved away, and he suffered at home to deal with the family work.
He used reading to block out what was going on in the world. He has always admired the knights and mages in the storybooks read to him by his older half sister. Reading opened his mind to dream about what he would like to be when he got away from his family. He cherished the idea of becoming a mage or serving in the kings army. He wanted to help people as well. He has always detested working on the farm with his family, and wanted to go into the city of Haense like his brother. He believes that religion is baloney, and that the only thing one should believe in is what they can perceive before them and in others. He believes everyone possesses potential. He has trouble trusting people because of how his mother cheated with his half sister’s father. This can make him cold to people at first, but he usually warms up to them after getting to know them a bit. He doesn’t mind helping others, though.
His family’s falling out has affected him in other ways. He feels as though his birth affected his parents, for he is the outcome of his mother cheating on his father with Eleonore’s father. He had a lot of self hate, and it made it difficult for him to find worth in himself to leave his family. When the cataclysm happened, he was forced to escape the asteroids falling on Haense, and get on a ship. He left his parents behind, for they refused to leave, and he had no idea where his other two siblings were. Stepping on the ship for the first time was a significant choice that would propel him on a new journey. He expected that when he arrived on new land, he could start a new beginning.
