He was raised in a Highlander family with Ashara Hazelmaker as his mother, and Restenoft as his father. He had an overall happy childhood except that he had lost his mother while he was the age of nine years old due to illness, and his father left him after Hazelleafs twelfth birthday to do as he wished. He was taught at home before his mother's passing but his father had taught Hazelleaf how to farm. He never knew what exactly had killed his mom, but he was determined to do what he could to keep on going. Because of this decision be had made friends thanks to his work, which permitted him to meet new people. But during this time he spent without his parents he had taught himself, and relied on the teachings his father had given him, and managed to stay alive and thrive, after making his way to the Kingdom of Norland, believing himself to be at least somewhat protected under the rule of Halvar I Edvardsson. But during his life away from his home he had fallen in love with a young lady who was named Aleaha. She was a traveller but she had stayed in contact with Hazelleaf because they had feelings for one another. But as time went by the two of them started falling even more in love, until Hazelleaf had to make a decision, to let himself go to jail for killing someone who had started a fight with him, or to blame Aleaha instead. At first he had thought he was going to give himself up, except he had learned that this individual was a soldier who had been drunk. Upon this discovery he decided to save himself and give up Aleaha for her to be arrested instead, after a year of knowing one another, and thus causing mind to wonder if this was the kind of person he wanted to live. Based on that decision he had decided to go back to his roots there at his house and decided to farm like he had been taught many years ago, and that's where he is to this day.
