Dacian was born to his mother and father, Serine and Ghorne Primerain, with one older brother and a younger sister. Dacian's older brother, Jace Primerain would often leave to go hunting and bring back food for his family, but on Dacian's 16th birthday, he went to find a feast to celebrate and never returned. Dacian's sister, Veries Primerain, kept to herself after the loss of her older brother, and despite Dacian's attempt to cheer her up, she fell deeper and deeper into depression. Eventually, she chose to leave her family and travel in a solemn attempt to explore her life beyond her family. Dacian, after watching his sister leave, also decided to travel in the attempt to find himself. His father gave him his family bow, and Dacian set off. Eventually, Dacian found himself in a minor kingdom named Springsomber, on an Isle within Vailor, where he met a beautiful human woman named Ellen Sorne that he fell in love with an married. Here, he worked as a farmer and part-time mercenary to make his living. Eventually, however, the king of Springsomber grew mad with age, and began killing those he suspected of treachery. Dacian's wife worked in the King's castle as a cook, and in an episode of madness, he had her killed for suspected poison. Dacian, struck with rage and grief, attempted to start a revolution to overthrow the king, but was captured and locked away. While imprisoned however, one of the guards grew close to him, and pitied him. When the King asked for his death, the guard sliced off Dacian's right hand to take as proof, in order to trick the mad king into thinking the deed was done. After, he let Dacian escape, only after telling him to never return.
