Born to a Rassid man (Tamaan Alfa Al'Mateena) and a Qalasheen woman (Aleena Sha Al'Mateena), as part of a small nomadic community of traders and "healers" (often just herbs ground and sold as remedies for various ailments); Ataar was used to life in caravans, or on animal-back trailing the convoy from destination to destination. The group was mostly made of Rassid desert folk who were born into Khoda communities and had to flee persecution. But there were also other Qalasheen (mostly women) who would marry into the group, as they romanticised the nomadic lifestyle or seeked more interesting lives, however they would all consider themselves to be Rassid once together.
Upon arrival in various cities and settlements the men would trade and sell homemade goods or other trades, while the women would offer their remedies as well as other services (non sexual), while the children would maintain the caravans or explore the areas. This meant that Ataar spent most of his childhood exploring the cities and kingdoms, observing the locals and learning their customs. He spent most of his time with his sister Aleeya, who was two years younger, and his close friend and son of the convoy leader Fazaan Miree Al'Tantaar, who was the same age as Ataar. Tamaan, Ataar' father, would often surprise him with books of mythology and legend.
The convoy didn't have a formal education system but there was an older widow amongst them who would spent time teaching the children mathematics and the various laws aswell as how to read and write in various languages. From a young age Ataar could speak three languages: the communities tongue, basic Qalashi and the common tongue; this was due to the need to trade with persons from various backgrounds.
Ataar never had any trysts of note, but as he got older (16 onwards) he would have short romantic encounters with local guys and girls of similar ages.
Despite his love for his community and family he recently separated from the convoy and decided to travel alone, which leads him to where he is today; Relatively defenseless and untrained, unexperienced when it comes to settling but easy to adapt and excited to see what lies ahead.
