Gilbert is the youngest of three siblings, born to a relatively wealthy mercantile family in the Holy Orenian Empire. He was raised just outside of the city of Providence, and was educated alongside his two brothers in literature, history, and martial arts. While his siblings excelled in combat training, Gilbert was frankly miserable at it, and greatly preferred reading any books he could get his hands on. He quickly acquired a sharp wit, much to the annoyance of his older brothers. Despite his propensity for learning, his combat abilities never improved and at the age of 18 his father sent him away, in hopes that he would learn a profitable skill. After a few years of wandering, Gilbert eventually ended up in Sutica, where he hopes to begin his new life.
