Gilberto was born on the outskirts of Norland, to a poor, humble, loving family that tried to find some way to find money. Gilberto's father was a fisherman that attempted to catch fish to help his starving family. They would survive off of one fish for one to sometimes two weeks. Gilberto would learn how to read and write through his mother who could teach some small things that she was taught from when she was younger. He would use this to help him in his future. Gilberto was only 8 when he encountered his first close friend. They would go on adventures, sometimes steal from others for food and laugh and have fun. Until four years later when they were headed back home late at night and they said their goodbyes and both headed back home. Gilberto would eat a small piece of fish that his mother gave him and he would then fall asleep. Until he woke up and then hear loud knocks from his front door and he was scared, his father answered the door and saw no one until he looked down and finding Gilberto's friend. Gilberto screamed out "Carlos"! Gilberto's father looked down and said "Oh hello there Carlos! What brings you at this time of the night to our home?" Carlos was in tears when he looked at the family, he stuttered every time he spoke. He said "My-My.. Family..", Gilberto's father said to him "What's wrong with your family?" Carlos responded with "They're dead!" Gilberto's father's face was shocked at hearing the news and instantly ran to his dresser to get ready and brought a hammer with him. Carlos and Gilberto's father headed out to his home to finding one of their bodies half eaten and the other had a knife in their throat. Gilberto's father reported the incident and told Carlos that he could stay with his family. This haunted Carlos for weeks and with some investigation on the corpses and the house they would later find out that the father was starving for days trying to feed his son whatever he could that he went crazy and ate his own wife, after this he would go on and later kill himself after seeing that his wife is dead. Two weeks go by from the incident and Carlos sneaks out of the house late at night and runs off, a distance behind him is Gilberto that is following him trying to figure out what he is going to go do. They ran up to a cliff and Carlos would look at the beautiful view and Gilberto said to him, "Carlos, what are you doing?" Carlos is shocked at finding Gilberto followed him this far. He says to him "I didn't know you followed me Gilberto, to be honest Gilberto after seeing what happened to my family, I don't think there is a future for me." Gilberto would try to get him to snap out of what he was thinking and tried talking to him but Carlos ignored him and jumped off the cliff to a pool full of spikes. Gilberto watched as the entire thing happened and would think that he's in a nightmare, he cried for an hour and screamed and ran back home telling his father about the incident that happened. Gilberto learned a lot since the incident and a year later helped his father in being a fisherman until his father dying of old age and his mother on the same path way, she told Gilberto to go travel the world and to not worry about her. Gilberto listened to her advice and found this advice hard to swallow. He left Norland for the first time and traveled through a swamp to find a man that would help him in his future named Tom. Tom was a personal chef that took in Gilberto and fed him and took care of him. He asked him about his past and Gilberto told him everything while breaking down. Tom would teach Gilberto martial arts and would later learn how to cook with Tom and had the dream to become the best Chef to make his friend and family proud as they watched him. After some time of watching Gilberto for 5 and teaching him his ways he would tell him to start a life in Oren and go on and travel. He would also have other skills that he learned from Nordland that would help him on his journey, how to move around in the forest and hunt. Tom also talked to him about the Red Faith, ever since he was a cook he would always stand by religion by thanking the All-father for the meal.
