Micah was the sixth child of Simon and Marsilia Neruda, two peasants. Being the sixth child, Micah was often given simple tasks while his parents taught his older siblings how to tend to the land. This allowed him to slip off while no one was looking to explore the wilderness. During these trips, Micah developed a love for flora. Being untrained, Micah would come up with unique names for each of the plants. It would not be uncommon to observe him studying a single plant for hours on end. While he was often scolded for not helping around the house, this did not discourage him from slipping away to explore. As he grew, his father began to respect and encourage him to follow his passion, only wanting the best for his child. On his thirteenth birthday, Micah's father talked with the local monk who agreed to teach Micah how to read commons, hoping to inspire him to become an acolyte. While Micah decided that the path of priesthood was not for him, he developed an appreciation for the church and his community, often feeling indebted to them. After learning how to read, Micah would travel to the city of Imperial City of Providence with his family when they intended to sell their wares. During his time in the city, he would try to find books on botany. These books tended to be outdated and extremely beaten up, but they helped teach him the formal names and simple uses of many plants. He was only able to have one book at a time, always selling his old book to afford a new one, so his formal understanding of botany is still that of a beginner. Now that Micah is older, he feels like it is time for him to pursue his dream-finally ready to do something with his talents.
