I am Eirik Scareye, although this was not my birth name. By birth I am Eirik Rubyhand, just like my father before me, Alvar Rubyhand. My mother was named Aleyssia, although I believe she was from a different clan. I am unsure, though, as she rarely discussed politics with me growing up. I changed my name shortly after their deaths to better reflect myself. If you have not already noticed, I have a rather hideous scar right across the whole of my face. Funny story that. My father specifically always said not to play with swords nor axes, yet I was stubborn. I took his sword one night and flailed wildly outside of our cottage. All was well and good until I tried to split a rock. I lifted the sword, gave it a good downforce and heard the ping of the stone. Then I felt the hot rush of blood. The blade had hit so hard, it flew right back and sliced my face. My father was not happy, but I am the one who has to bear this scar for life. Oh well, at least I still have my eye. Anyway, I gave myself the name of Scareye, that way there are no surprises during introductions. If you wonder why I seem so callous about my parents and my past, it's because I'm still trying to cope. 3 years ago they succumbed to illness. My father went so fast it still feels fake. My mother went 4 days after him. For those three years, 18-21 essentially, I tried to keep the family business going, but it wasn't the same. I needed a change. Where I am from makes no real difference as to where I am going, and besides, I cannot recall the name of it. However, it was a mountain vale, a beautiful one too. Lots of snow and lots of wheat. I vow to never go back. I grew up a poor, low class farmer and I worked with my father every day to ensure our people could eat heartily. Well that was pretty much my life from birth to 18. I went to school of course, attended religious rites and all that. I went to a very distant religious school for a year, and it overlooked a prosperous city in a far off land. I am very devout myself, a firm believer in the Brathmordakin, and I sometimes think I am destined to join the Da Kirkja Dverga. They intrigue me to say the least. My life has been really uneventful though. I think about the biggest moment in my life was discovering my passion for building and architecture. My father and I used to do home improvement, and that was the closest he'd ever let me get to actually building anything substantial. He'd always say "Eirik, quit your dreamin' about buildin' n all that. You're my son: a farmer." Hah, one day I'll prove to him... No, he will see when I join him in the afterlife. Well, I should tell you a bit about my personality I suppose. I try to be polite to everyone I meet, but I hate talking when I don't need to. Even though conversation is what built the whole world, I just get so anxious around groups of people I freeze up. Everyone always says it makes me funnier when I do speak though. I guess that's a good thing? Ah, well, you win some, you lose some I suppose. Architecture... Yes I should tell you more about my biggest aspiration in life. I dream of castles... Large cathedrals... Immaculate living structures that graze the clouds above. I want to be the one whose name gets put out front to tell people that I designed it. I want to prove my parents wrong... to prove that mountain dwarves can achieve a lot in our cursed state! I know I am greedy, that I always will want more and more from life, but what can a dwarf do? Try to go against my nature? No. I must own it, and do what I can. For now, I need to set my life up here in Amaris. Hopefully I make a good impression with the Dwarven communities here so I can sell them my crops. Then I'll start my first project... A massive spire that almost touches the heavens!
