Mariela was born 18 years ago in a small rural village many miles away from any large city. She was brought up helping her father, Jonathan, on his farm and her mother, Lianne, in her tavern, and quickly gained a knack for building. At age 8, she was helping her father repair the barn, when on the horizon, a group of raiders on horseback could be seen charging toward her small village. Her and her father quickly ran to warn the other townsfolk, but by the time they were able to tell anybody, the raiders had already reached the town center, and were burning homes and workplaces alike. Worried for Mariela and Lianne, Jonathan quickly got both of them into a wagon, and sped out of the town with his two work horses towing the family. A few days later, the family got out of the wagon, and began building a new home for themselves. With Marielas help, Jonathan was quickly able to forage and hunt enough food for the three of them, and within a few months, they had built what some might consider a home.
About 8 years later, when Mariela was about to turn 17, her parents, beginning to reach their elder years, came down with a nasty disease. Jonathan and Lianne would eventually die to this disease, leaving Mariela on her own. Mariela buried her parents, and tried to keep living in the same home she had built with her parents all those years ago, but quickly grew tired of the isolation. Determined, Mariela set out on an adventure of sorts to try and find a new home, near friendly people, where she could be at peace once again. For the last year, she has been wandering around on horseback, going from village to village, seeing great towns looking for the perfect place to call home. She has been wandering through Almaris for a long time now, and after finding the cloud temple, is ready to settle down.
