Born in the Duchy of Corazon, Berd was a child who liked to adventure. Running from village to village with his friends he found solace in the abundance of space offered to him as a child. Growing to be a pious teenager, it was normal for a boy of his age to begin training with a blade. He would hear stories of the soldiers of the Blackwald Company carrying out God's will to those who opposed it and was itching from the moment he held his sword’s grasp to join. Upon his twenty-first birthday, Berd’s village was stricken with a disease that took the life of his mother, with some of his only knowledge being combat training Berd grew a need to expand upon his knowledge. To travel the world and to spread the word of God by any means possible.
