Mateo was born into an impoverished family in a homestead just west of Oren as the middle of 3 Baggio brothers. Growing up he didn't have much to do but help around the home, as well as aid his father in manual labor. As he grew, he developed a fondness for reading, though his family only had one book around the house, that being a book of their religion: cannonism. Through this Mateo gained a love for religion, and a desire to want to preach. Due to his time reading, Mateo became the wisest of his brothers, which angered his older brother Juancho a lot. Juancho once tried to 'son' Mateo, though that failed, as Mateo gave him a viscous slap with his left hand, his father then punished him severely. Due to this, Mateo only holds books with his right hand. Eventually Mateo's father passed, leaving it all to Juancho and his family, sending Mateo out and on his way to Oren, where our story begins.
