Atlas was born in the Holy Orenian Empire to peasants who farmed the countryside outside the capital city of Providence. Growing up was not easy and food was often scarce, Atlas' brother passed away at an early age. Always deeply faithful to the Cannonist dogma, the death of Atlas' brother deeply shook the families faith. Atlas' father achieved some modest success as a merchant trading in wheat, carrots, and livestock. He used some of the profits to pay for a basic education for Atlas who learned to reading, writing, and mathematics, the basic skills any merchant requires. One night, while drinking in a tavern, Atlas' father began criticizing The Canticle of Fidelity and the theology of predestination. Overheard by an agent of the church, Atlas' father was killed for blasphemy.
