Born an only child in the Under-Realm of Urguan, Durvin's clan Helmstriker migrated to a secluded cave in the northwestern mountains of Arcas. Ever since his childhood, he has been shouted down not to ask questions about their exodus, so he is still unsure of why they moved. His family lived a secluded life, crafting weapons and armor to sell to nearby settlements. They were wary of anyone who was able to find their way through the labyrinth of rocks that lead to their cave entrance, and enslaved all those who made the journey. Durvin was trained by his father in the ways of war, and earned many scars from failed lessons in arms. As he grew older, he became rebellious and started talking to several of the slaves they had captured. The slaves regaled him of tales of their lands, and he began to be infused with wanderlust. When his kin found out, they took him and sold him to a group of slavers. Durvin was later bought by a young (20yrs) high elf by the name of Yesbella Starfate, daughter of Thellevin Starfate, and set free with her good wishes and some starter gear. He returned straight back to his kin, desiring to prove to them that he made it and was able to survive in the wild. Instead of accepting him, they told him never to return unless he truly had something worth their time.
