Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Homunculi are the blasphemous result of creating life through alchemy, started by either sewing corpses together or setting vats of flesh alight in a twisted process of incorporating fire, life, chaos, and connection together onto a receptacle.

Appearance-wise, Homunculi can be identical or merely a fascimile of the humanoid they are molded after, as they are made to imitate that which is, not what isn't. Due to their lack of a true soul, however, all homunculi will retain a glassy gold/silver glint to their eyes.

Physically, Homunculi cannot surpass but may maintain the physical ability of their modelled race. There is a law of equivalent exchange in terms of strength VS dexterity (like an elf being fast but frail, or an orc being powerful but lacking agility).

Homunculi are immune to the effects of age and posses incredible regenerative abilities, even able to reform after death. They can heal minor injuries within four IRL hours, moderate injuries in twelve IRL hours, and severe injuries (such as nonfatal dismemberment) in one IRL week.

After being killed, it takes one IRL week for Homunculi to regenerate completely and three IRL days to recover after the fact. They can, however, be killed permanently by consuming a Juliet's potion, turning them to stone. This can be done without OOC consent.

Due to their existence as beings wrought of alchemy, they are drawn to the process that created them and have a natural talent for such, capable of noticing alchemical signs from an object upon close inspection.

Homunculi can also handle things such as organic grafts or alchemical mutations far better than your average man (though they do not receive added benefits from alchemical potions). 

Homunculi are beings of the material, the antithesis of voidal magic, and thus are especially vulnerable to voidal magic, experiencing excruciating pain upon exposure. Because of this, Homunculi tend to go out of their way to avoid voidal mages. As soulless beings, it also goes without saying that they cannot perform any magic that requires a soul. They are not mortals and thus may be affected by holy magics, gain nothing from curses/blessings, and are still capable of getting sick (unless they are an afflicted).

Magpie appears human from first glance, standing at a well-built 6'2". However, the lower half of his face is contorted to resemble the mouth of a dog, with discolored port-wine stains across the snout, black lips, and long, sharp teeth. His nails are long, black, dull and curled like the claws of a dog. Additionally, his glassy eyes shine reflectively in dim light, similar to the tapetum lucidum of many animals.

Samuel clutches the letter intended for him with shaking hands. Though he was present at Erwin's funeral, he had fled too soon. Now, eight years later, sitting at his childhood home with Heraldine across his lap, he finally has the space to mourn. Tears freely flow down his cheeks, and he holds the paper to his chest.

"Ich von't let you down."

"Oh, interesting," Rellis hums, leaning around the market stall to thoroughly inspect it. "If I was an official, I'd probably be obligated to take this down! Too bad I'm a regular bystander. Have a starter donation." They toss a few minas across the counter and saunter off.
