Herman grew up on the border between the Kingdom of Haense and the Holy Oren Empire. His father was a retired military man, who had been one of the lucky few to live through his service and wanted nothing of the sort for his son. Thus, Herman grew up watching the soldiers of both Kingdoms marching off to war, begging his father to teach him to fight so that he could one day be like them. As Herman grew older, his desire to become a soldier, and leave the small logging town stop that he called home only grew. To sate this desire, he would often go out into the woods with many of the young men of the town and have mock skirmishes with wooden swords. His father would catch him from time to time, dismissing the excursions as just an adolescent's naive aspirations. However, Herman's desire to become a soldier only persisted into early adulthood. Realizing this, and perhaps his own folly for not recognizing it sooner, Herman's father allowed him to travel to Haense to enlist in the army. At the age of 22, Herman left home, hoping to climb the ranks of military and make a name for himself as a warrior, but city life and the life of a soldier may not be all that he's made it out to be.
