In a village far from Krugmar, Eliza grew up in a village where she was born as a bastard child and her mother had run away and left Eliza. Eliza was raised by a warring chief and the rest of the village. She became dear friends with the chief's daughter Penossophy who did not like battling as much as she liked to draw. Penossophy would always draw in the sand or with the blood of fallen enemies. But one day during a hunt when they were retreating the frail Penossophy fell behind and ran through by a spear. Eliza was heart broken but the chief, the father said, "she was too weak." Eliza forsook penossophy's artist ways and promised to be stronger from then on. One day when Eliza was in the mud tending pigs she saw some elves attack the chief and kill him. The elves quickly ran away but Eliza realized other cultures did have one thing that she needed: skills for war. But with her chief dead and the ritual combat to stay in the tribe coming up, she was unprotected. In the middle of the night a jealouse rival Flickhuan came in and stabbed Eliza in the side. In the morning she was too weak to complete the trial and was banished until she could become stronger which is where Eliza begins her story in LOTC.
