  1. Hey #LOTC,

Sorry we haven't been keeping the community up to date with the recent downtimes on LOTC. The truth of the matter is someone with very malicious intent has decided to begin DDOSing us on a regular interval every day starting around 3:00pm and continuing on long past midnight.

Unfortunetly these DDOS attacks have been so much larger than any past attack we've had to deal with that it has been impossible for me to do anything about them through software and firewall modifications. The only true solution to stop the DDOSing from happening is through a anti-ddos hardware, which costs upwards of $50k to purchase.

That being said, such hardware can be rented out from certain companies for slightly more reasonable prices, ranging from $200-$4000/month, depending on the mitigation strength. It pisses me off that these DDOSers have pushed us into a corner where we need to waste the already very scarce donations we get on anti-ddos hardware, but there's not much we can do at this point.

The attacks are so large that if our datacenter didn't nullroute our IP, it would take out a large portion of their network. We're still actively working to try and combat the DDOS threat, but things aren't looking too good right now as I'm basically locked out of the server 24/7.

If we can't figure out a solution in the next few hours, we'll likely post up a kickstarter donation fund for the community to donate $ in order to allow us to purchase the anti-ddos hardware we need to stop the attacks. Normally we would just take $ from the server fund, but it's run dry as of late.

Thanks, and sorry for the long delayed post.

    Hey #LOTC,

It's my pleasure today to introduce an official Lord of the Craft subreddit! Reddit is a social news website where the registered users submit content, in the form of either a link or a text "self" post. Other users then vote the submission "up" or "down", which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site's pages and front page. It's also a terrific place to get traffic from and invite new people to join the #LOTC experience.

So that leads to me to the reason for making this post, whether you are an avid redditor or not, please take a few moments of your time to register an account on reddit and follow /r/lordofthecraft. If you really want to help us out, make some posts there, interact with other community members, x-post on /r/minecraft and other similar subreddits, etc. All these actions will help increase traffic to our subreddit, and our server. Reddit is (mostly?) a pretty high quality community, and really is a great target population for roleplaying. So get out there and start redditing!

    Thanks everyone!

  3. Another question tied to your response ^.^

~This means that one cannot get in trouble anymore for soulstoning out of a prison or away from RP.?

I can't comment on this as I'm not a community GM, however I would think if I was RPing I would make the person give up their soulstone before imprisoning them.

Then if you relogged to get it back, that would obviously be against the rules.

  4. I have a few questions:

~Soulstones are RP now? I thought they were an OOC tool.

~Players, even babies can now use the soulstone to pop in and out from the nether... but Iblees can't?

Other stuff seems great, goodjob ^.^

The soulstone is still not very understood by the races of Asulon, it's a very powerful relic that bends reality around it, much like a wormhole, only instead of going through a wormhole it transports the operator to their desired location by whisking them through the nether.

Just hope and pray your soulstone doesn't malfunction and you're left stuck in the nether? :o.

    Hey #LOTC,

In our continuing efforts to try and eliminate as many /<commands> as possible to make our server more fluid and easier to understand for new players, we've made some significant changes to our soulstone plugin. Here's a summary of what we did.

[NEW] Removed /setsoul. Sneak + Left Click with your soulstone in hand has taken its place.

[NEW] Removed /selectsoul. Left clicking with your soulstone in hand will shuffle through your saved locations.

[MOD] Reprogrammed database system of plugin to a much more optimized and low latency build.

[MOD] Imported all old database loccations to new DB (no /setsoul reset)

[MOD] Changed cooldown from 10 minutes to 5 minutes due to Asulon's crazy size.

[MOD] Added a cool nether portal effect when casting the spell, to reflect the fact that your character is being warped through the nether.

[MOD] Removed 'default' soulstone locations to prevent meta and bypassing of RP to get to capital city.

[FIX] Fixed an exploit that reset your soulstone's cooldown by simply logging out / in.

[FIX] Soulstones will automatically vanish on death and not be dropped.

[FIX] Soulstones can no longer be stored in chests, furnaces, dispensers, etc.

We also made a few misc. changes to some other mechanics of LOTC.

[MOD] Chairs are now SNEAK + Right click again, in order to allow players to place objects (signs) around the chairs without sitting in them by mistake.

[FIX] A bug in new economy system that caused notes to become 'blank' until they were viewed again.

[MOD] Removed message prompting users about new mina system from MOTD.

  6. Wait, since LotC stands for "Lord of the Craft", doesn't that mean LotCraft would mean "Lord of the Craftraft"?

On another note: this is amazing. Good work Vaq!

It's just a play on our name ending with a C... LOTCCraft sounds stupid.

So we can't use it until we use the clients or are you using it now? And great job!

Is there an ETA on the client?

We're using it right now. It will later be made to require the client ofc. No ETA as of now :x.

  7. Will LOTClient be like a separate MC client where we can install mods independent from our normal MC client? For example, lets say I have Thaumcraft 2, Buildcraft and all that stuff on my normal client, I'll be able to just switch to LOTClient with all of the stuff from Hawks without having to move files around?

Edit: I realize this question may seem a little stupid, but I'd just like clarification. :D

LOTClient will install to a SEPARATE directory than minecraft, so you won't loose anything. It'll even have it's own run icon :P.
