  1. So much nostalgia here - and so many names I hadn't seen in so many years. LotC will always hold a special place in my mind, love to see things like this whenever I check back in.

Hope everyone from that time is doing well ❤️

  2. Heya,

This is a topic that I’ve always felt passionate about in the past, and wanted to chime in with my 2 cents.

When this server originally opened, and we were in the world of Aegis, it was a Hybrid system, through-and-through. The 4 major capitols of the 4 main races all how protections (world-guard), with player managed permissions, starting with the faction leaders having access to adding / removing sub plots to their entire nation plot, and delegating leaders of those smaller plots from there.

Everywhere that was not a ‘Main Nation’ fell under the rules of the land. Griefing was heavily enforced with a minimal tolerance policy, so it wasn’t too much of a problem. In all that open land, mainly on the roads connecting the major cities, it allowed the server to constantly feel alive. Slowly more and more buildings popped up, more and more guilds.

When a guild, or small city project, grew large enough, it was possible for them to gain protection. It was based on a double system of, VIP members (depending on rank) were allowed a certain amount of land from their donation, which was method one. The second was if the area became an important place of RP content, it would be allowed to be inducted as a ‘mini-nation’ to keep the idea of it simple.

This allowed an ever changing world, and to allow reasons to stay within the cities, but also to move out. You were never confined if you did not want to be, but moving up within ranks and guilds to gain more access to more places to have your items protected was extremely important to keeping the game fresh and alive, not needing the constant change for maps. It allowed places like Alras to be created over time, and become the main RP hub of the world.

Overall, just the freedom a Hybrid server brings allows for much more interesting RP, because rather than RPing in a stagnant world, you are able to RP the building of the world around you, and can even change the ebb and flow of how the world goes.

Then to talk about the negatives, the main one being that yes, it did lead to some messes. Some people would build crappy structures around, and leave them, and then stop playing, and they just sat. Silly things that negatively effected the ‘immersion’. Having some GMs clean up these places in their free time, prevented the problem for the most part. It wasn’t possible to get everything, but it allowed the game to be a game, and getting rid of some of the ultra-immersion for all the benefits was extremely beneficial to the health of the server.

So that’s just my fairly simplistic views, as I don’t play really at all anymore, I might be blind to the benefits of not having Hybrid, but I did want to talk about what the server was like in it’s Prime! ?

  3. My only idea/question - Would it make more sense to have it be somewhat chance at making higher tier weapons, even at higher levels in professions?

Such as a person with a maxed blacksmith skill would just be able to bring lots of legendary weapons into the game, but if it was a chance to make them it would keep legendary items, well legendary.

  4. my only piece of insight, in the last post you said there wouldn't be a full map region. Well, from my point a view - if we can build around, you can't limit the amount of space players have, as in - You can't just have the entire map be one hand-made piece of work. That takes away just being able to play in the minecraft world, and at that, the natural minecraft world. While maybe the center of the map can be handmade so it looks good, I again suggest that the rest being natural generated - with a limit on how far we can go out.

Also, while I like the idea of the mining age, please don't completely remove mining from the overworld. Set a limit on that too, such as what it was back in the day, only digging down to y:40.

Other than that, keep up the good work you guys. :)

  5. I say your precious ones, as those are the only ones you are holding dear. There is simply that glass wall around them you are creating.

Also, fine, I guess it is disrespected for those GMs currently around. My apologies to them. Though as I say again, they are just being shielded.

And for maturity? Maturity doesn't win battles. Look at the world itself. Maturity doesn't win wars, guns do. And as I posted on your profile,

"Be mature? Always. Maturity isn't what is needed here. Look in on a debate in real congress, for creating a new law. Do people stay mature? No. Do people even stay Classy? No. They voice their opinions, and the voices of others for what they believe in. As for rights? How about the right to be able to actually be able to have a say who stays a GM/Admin? I think that would be interesting."

  6. I still so no ultimatum stemming from your posts Latsi, what's the solution?

To my knowledge, this mostly stems from dusk's promotion.

Dusk being promoted to an Admin will help me oversee GM's, as-well as training and organizing new GM's and staff. Not dealing with player reations, Like NekoDanie old job.

I didn't tell Goldrim to leave for voicing his opinion, don't turn it around like that. I told Goldrim to leave because of the way he loosely used his words.

I'm not saying this is "Lord Of The Staff" I'm saying that you shouldn't speak so strongly of anothers wishes or goals without giving them a chance to explain themselves. Aka the GM's you've disrespected with, "All of the true-hearted GMs have left or become inactive"

You told Goldrim to leave. After here had a complaint. Sure, its not for voicing his opinion per-say, but its because it was something you didn't want to hear.

And I have not mentioned a single thing about Dusk, or the other people promoted. I have only talked about what the thread in a whole has become. It is people voicing their opinions. While Dusk's promotion may have sparked thoughts, there are tons of things that may have set off people thinking. Sadly, dusk's promotion was the thing it had to be.

I honestly feel bad about that, as I have never had a reason to dislike Dusk, and its terrible that this has to be made on her name.

If you think that I am disrespecting GMs, its just you covering up and shielding them behind a glass wall. I feel disrespected for my you saying I am disrespecting your precious ones.

To those following this, also be sure to check out my profile as well as Native's, as apparently a side conversation has evolved there too.

  7. I can't help but disagree Latsi, you haven't spoken to staff in quite a long time and you shouldn't base your opinions of them from others.

We have questioned our GM's long enough, and its high-time we support each-other and show the players that we do respect our staff members so that they can work with morale.

I'm not sure which GM's you feel are here for fame or glory, but It would be far more appropriate if you messaged an admin your woes or at the very least written respectfully.

Instead of saying "LoTC is.." or "The GM's are.."

You should say "I believe Lotc is.." or "I believe the GM's are.." because your opinion is your own and it shouldn't be presented as fact.

Though, this is not my own opinion. This is a community opinion. Again, many of the community has posted here with their thoughts, and many people of the community are scared to do it. You are treasuring the few staff that are currently around, and protecting them. Then Goldrim voices his opinion, and you tell him to leave.

I had even made a status at one point and your threatened to ban me for voicing my opinion. You have a glass wall around the GMs, saying that they can moderate with morale in mind, but the only moderation I have seen is helping with ModReqs, and removing certain members of the community who are only causing trouble. Such as pugsy, and also the writers of the ***********ing Guide.

That is alright, I agree with that. But that isn't what moderating is.

Then you say I might message an admin with complaints, but I do not have any myself as I do not consider myself a member of this community anymore. I still love many of the people in the community, and what it once stood for, which is why I say the community should take control.

I didn't mention a single name, (besides Freya) or single out one person in my post, as Its not just one person. I also feel it's wrong to direct hatred towards individuals.

You say I haven't spoken to the staff, but the staff aren't the community. If staff is all that can be talked to, then again, it is being ruled. No matter what, this is LotC, not Lord of the Staff. The community is the largest group of LotC, and without them, there is no LotC.

If you believe that only your staff are to be respected, then shame on you. The community is the one dealing with even more disrespect from Staff, and because they are larger, it seems that it won't matter.

  8. After reading through just about every post, there was no way I was just going to sit on the sidelines while others were trying to do what the majority of the community were scared to do. First off, I applaud Goldrim for stepping up and getting so much started. Many voices in the community have spoken things on their mind, some doing it because they have a strong opinion, and some because they realized then agreed with another's.

What I came to say is my two-cents on the current state of LotC. Now, I cannot directly relate to any recent topic or happenings as I have not been a part of the active community, I do have things to share.

First off, all this thread has been is people voicing their opinions, and the ones the 'staff' didn't like were talked down upon. All the staff has done is defended each other from the opinions of the core of the community, the regular players themselves. The staff is seeing themselves as 'lords,' and 'kings,' and even 'queens' of this community. From how I played my role as a GM, it wasn't about that. It was about helping the community in any way they could, not trying to silence them because they feel disrespected. I realize how true it is now, that someone I was talking to said LotC has become a game of titles. If you have a staff title, you feel you are one of the 'big dogs' in the community. That's what the staff teams have become. All of the true-hearted GMs have left or become inactive, or even were removed for voicing their opinion.

Some of my favorite staff members, such as Freya, she loved LotC for what it was and wanted to help it. I'll even use myself, I loved LotC and tried to help it as much as I could. I had tried to do what the community wanted, I pushed Native to start getting 3.0 worked on months before it did, I tried to get staff that the community were unhappy with removed, but things never changed. Its why I left my spot as a GM, as I felt I could no longer help the community in a positive way.

All the GMs who had once felt this way are now gone. LotC is no longer being moderated, it is being controlled. The staff is doing only what they believe is right, and not what the community believes is right. So let this be a shoutout to anyone part of the staff. What is your real opinion? Step back, and instead of thinking about banning people, or defending yourself, think about why you really are a member of the staff. Don't lie to yourself either. Did you do it so you could be a 'lord' of the community, or did you do it to actually help LotC?

Many, not all, but many truthful answers would be for the title. And to the LotC community, a shoutout to all of you. This is your server. You are the core of it. Without you, there is no LotC. This is a fact. That being a fact, if this is your server, shouldn't you have the biggest say in what should be done? Discuss amongst each other. Put those who you believe would really be a help to the server because of their love for it, throw them into the air. Have them be your leaders. Follow them, not the people that can ban you. If you get banned by the people who can, then find a way to speak your mind. If you can't help your community by just being a member of it, then it proves this community is being ruled, not cared for.

I hope this sparks some though. If it throws LotC into turmoil, then those who have the physical power to make change, do it. Otherwise, I hope that this post may show that the 'leaders,' the GMs aren't exactly what you thought them to be.

Good luck LotC community, I'll be checking back here once a day.
