  1. No magic? I can't enter then ;-;

    Good idea though!

The no magic rule is to make the fighting easier for the rest, and make it fairer for those within the arena.

Would the combat be RP or PvP?

Most likely PVP, however myself and the ET will be throwing in RP aspects to interfere with fighting etc

  2. Wouldn't the people in the arena require a VA to kill and steal, and all that fun stuff? I would suggest talking to a VAT member and getting something sort out. Maybe that when in the arena they are allowed to do whatever they want for the period of time they are in the arena. That way, people in the arena don't need to be worried about, "Ermagerd, I don't have a VA to kill you, or to steal the food you have sitting here, or to do anything!"  :crys:

    Just my thought on it.

In previous events which have involved dueling or fighting other, they haven't needed a VA to my knowledge, however that is something I will definitely have to check on. Thanks for pointing it out.

Actually, if they wish to participate they would have to sign an OOC contract stating that if they were killed, they're character is perma'd. I think having an 'all or nothing' type situation would just be more interesting.

As for the maze - I mean a literally huge maze. Everyone goes in with nothing but a stack of bread and in ID card (or w/e). Wooden weapons, leather armor, low tier potions, etc are scattered around in chests for a slight advantage. Last one standing wins.

You still couldn't make someone kill their character, no matter the circumstances. If you have such a high entry fee, along with the restrictions, I doubt you'd see many participators.

Anyway, this is a discussion for another thread, not this one.

  3. I actually really like this idea, but not in the way you've presented it - I will however attempt to get something similar done in my own power.

I'm going to ask ChumpChump for premission to build a huge maze far underneath Abresi then launch a competition: high entry fee, large sponsership prize and winner takes all, the catch however is that if you die in the competition, you're permakilled.

    Ooh, ooh, ooh.

You can't actually force anyone to PK their character... So not quite sure what you have in mind... A simple maze?

Also if you don't like how I presented it, give reasons so I can improve it.

  4. You know. The moment I see Mockingjays and Katnip wannabees will be the day I regret saying I like this idea.

Why would there be mockingjays? There's no lore behind them and since they don't exist in real life and so there would have to be lore to RP then, as far as I know.

As for Katniss-wannabees, I'm not exactly sure what you think they would be, but there are already a few characters that are somewhat similar. If you're referring to them volunteering in place of others, that wouldn't happen since the competitors would be picked from those who volunteer for it. So anyone competing, will have accepted what might happen.

I do understand that most people don't want the hunger games directly incorporated into LOTC, which is why there would be lore and reasoning behind and event such as this and I can assure you it won't include any mockingjays.

  5. How big would an arena be? Are we talking the size of maps on HG servers?

At the moment, I'm unsure of the size but it is something that would be discussed with others.

For now, I would say that it would not be too big, simply to make it easier to monitor the players and for others to watch it.

Well to be fair, they would just be representing nations, not their whole race. It's like where the tributes represent districts, not an entire race.

It's honestly easier to do it via race, but to give it a wider effect on others I may introduce the sub-races so that there is more competition.  If that were to happen then the prize for the winner would definitely increase.

It seems very generic. It is hunger games, basically, with a different name and a LotC twist. Yes, this would be fun and very entertaining, but I feel like it should be changed- lore added and a different base- still a tournament of sorts, but nothing like the hunger games. It should be original.

It isn't going to be as big an event if there isn't a good reason it came about, it would also be very beneficial for the event idea to take on more of a LotC feel.

Although I do like the proposal, I feel it needs to be changed quite a bit. You have my full support once you have done so in a satisfactory way, and I would love to help out as an ET builder/actor.

I'll admit, it is a very simple idea and is based off of The Hunger Games. I will be trying to speak with the ET and LT to create some suitable lore and reasoning behind having the event within LOTC and not just have it out of the blues.

  6. I would change it from two from every race to two from every nation. So all those Human kingdoms would get people too.

After discussing the event idea with some others, I had questioned whether or not to do race or by nation and I chose race because it was fairer on everyone. It wouldn't be right for the Humans to have 20 competitors and the Halflings to only have 2.

  7. I honestly want to see this happen. It would be so funny seeing some halflings taking on other races

by funny I mean they would totally pwn dos n00bs

It's an event to provide entertainment, so hopefully it will be :)

Would be a fun event, specially if there was some nice lore tied into it. Maybe ways for the GMs to put some money they have back into the economy as well?

They're welcome to provide the prize fund if they wish, perhaps if they were to, it might increase? We'll have to see though :)

I seem to recall something like this in Asulon. Whilst I'm unsure if it went well, I'd still like to see this done again.

There was something slightly similar but it happened just after I took my holiday from LOTC, so I actually did not get to see it happen :(

I don't see how the nations could find the time with all the killing going on, to launch a competition like this. Not only that, but if they were to do it the contestants would really need to perma kill if they die, or else it would literally hold no meaning and be boring. With those two factors alone I can say I cant see it being very successful, and I'm sure there are other reasons. I'm not trying to be negative, just real. If there were evil creatures attacking America, I promise you that football would be cancelled for a bit :P

The nations wouldn't be "launching" anything. They'd simply be taking part in the event. If you read the post entirely you'd see my disclaimer of sorts...

The Antags aren't exactly posing a threat to much right now, other than to the places they attack. A lot of characters haven't even heard of them.

EDIT: You also can't force a player to PK, so it is still up to them, even though it would be preferred.

  8. Considering there is a force impending doom upon the world and slowly taking over the world, as well as a cult of evil Iblees followers smiting people down... I don't think any nations would wish to participate in a "kill my people" contest. It's nice to think about, and would have worked in asulon with the whole "Nation versus nation" roleplay, but here it wouldn't work imo.

I understand what you're saying, and I was reluctant at first but nations are constantly having smaller tournaments for their knights or battle-worthy warriors and something like this could create some much needed nation vs nation RP. The Orcs seem to enjoy killing each other over petty things, so they may be interested in this and as for the other races, it would be a chance to show off their strength.

  9. Though entirely unorigonal, I like this idea. This will put some actual fun to PvP for those who like it. You have my support, as long as you... well... develop it a bit more :P

I plan to, this was just a first/second draft to use as a proposal. I'll be speaking with ET, should this be accepted, to sort out aspects of it and try to make it more original and fitting for LOTC.

    Before you comment
Yes, this is pretty much LOTC Hunger Games and the name can be changed if anyone thinks of something better.

    Event Planners:

Myself (ixTec) and any ET Members that wish to assist me.

    Event Type:

"World Event" - "Community Event" - "Fun Event" - "Entertainment Event" - "Competition Event"

    Event Date:

    Negotiable with ET

    Factions/Nations effected by the event:

All Nations and those groups approved by myself.

    Event Location:

Needs to be discussed with Event Team but will be kept a secret until an announcement is made.

    Summary:

    (More of an essay, sorry)

Two tributes will be selected of each of the following races

    Humans
    Elves
    Dwarfs
    Orcs
    Kharajyr
    Halflings

The tributes will be chosen by the Nations leaders from those that volunteer for such a thing. Once all the tributes have been selected, the location of the arena will be announced. This information is released later to reduce the training the tributes can have for a specific environment.

Those chosen to represent their Nation will have to meet the following requirements:

    - Have no use of magic -
    - Have no relation to those in-charge of the Death Games-
    - Be one of both sexes. (One male, one female) -
    - Have no knowledge of the arena, prior to its announcement -

Once all the tributes reach the arena, they will be released into it and the fight will begin. Those within the arena will be able to use ANYTHING within the arena to their advantage, whether it be the environment or tools/weapons they find hidden throughout it.

Each competitor will begin with two pieces of leather armour, just to make it more difficult to kill them as soon as it starts.

The winner will be the last one alive after the others have been killed by each other and he/she will receive the following prizes:

    - Recognition as the first winner of the AADG -
    - 5,000 Mina reward -
    - Possible other rewards yet to be discussed -

Each Nation must also pay a 1,000 Mina fee (which pays for both tributes) for entering into the event. This money will fund both the construction of the arena and the advertisement of it.

Traders and Merchants may contact me regarding possible advertisements within and around the Arena and also if they wish to invest into it.

Entry for those wishing to watch the event will be free, however better seating will be available to those who pay a small fee of 50 Minas (per person).

    Concept Images/Screenshots

I currently have no concept images or screenshots since until I discuss details with the ET, I have no idea what it will look like, where it will be, nor what will be in it, however a few ideas I have been discussing with friends are as follows.

EDIT: I'll try add some pictures tomorrow when I'm more awake

    Canyon
A circular arena with a platform in the middle. The competitors will begin on the platform and be forced to jump off, down into the water in the canyon below. They can fight down in the water, or climb up the steep sides of the canyon to acquire tools and weapons.
The crowd will be seated within the top of the canyon and will be behind bars to stop them interfering with the game.

    Island
The entire arena will be a small island in which the competitors will arrive and begin on either a dock or the shore. They will be able to scourge for both food and tools within the island and it will be small enough for the crowd to watch from boats dotted nearby to view any fights.
The island will be regioned so only the competitors can enter it to stop interfering from those on the boat.

    Other Information:

    DISCLAIMER(Kinda):

I have been asked to notify those that volunteer and are chosen to represent their nation in the event, wouldn't be forced to perma-kill their character. However it would be preferred for sake of keeping with RP since the event is a large one that would be seen or talked of by most and so it would not make sense for you to be healed by the monks or there would be no danger in participating.

Do you need the Event Team's assistance?:

Yes I will for the reasons below

If so, do you require actors and/or builders?:

    Builders definitely, Actors maybe.
(TImelord_Lalve has already agreed to happily assist me, however more would be needed)

Letme know what you think of the idea and suggest anything if you feel it's necessary.

Have you ever been banned or received a strike?

    Nope

What do you believe are key factors for a successful event?

    Creativity

When designing an event for the server it is, without a doubt, incredibly important to be creative and design the event to a standard you are happy of. The creativity can be in the form of the atmosphere around the players or the roleplay you provide. Either one is important, however the roleplay you create is more so, as that is what defines the event and provides means for the players to interact with you and the event.

    Freedom

I believe giving the players freedom when involved in events allows them to enjoy themselves a lot more, thus making the event more of a success. Players should be allowed to have part control over most events by allowing them to interact with the environment and/or elements of the roleplay. This means that players have choices to make within the event, such as multiple routes to take or methods of solving an issue. Having this allows players to feel as if they have some form of control over the event which lets them believe that they only succeeded because of the choices they chose and not just because it was pre-determined path by the Event Team Member.

What type of events are you most interested in creating?

Back in Aegis I experienced an event which has stuck with me since it happened. This event was incredibly simple, and involved only myself and another ET member (ETM). During the event, the ETM was disguised as a pig and was oinking and it ended up wanting food or something and then proceeded to spawn in a few friends (other pigs) and then they were asking me to bow down before the "Pig God" and when I did, I received a reward. It was very odd but also incredibly humorous too.

As mentioned, this event has stuck in my memory because I enjoyed it and it was different and unexpected. This is the sort of events I wish to create as I think that everyone deserves to experience events such as this and at the moment, there is a definite lacking in them and instead there are mainly large-scale events.

What strengths could you contribute to the Event Team?

I live in England so I'm a GMT player which means I will be able to provide events at a time that there is normally either very few or none at all. This would mean that a larger variety and selection of players will be able to experience the events that they current lack or miss.

I believe I can offer a different approach to events for the Event Team, by targeting those travelling along roads and paths. These events would be unannounced and random so that no one would expect them and therefore they would be a surprise when they happen.

Create three distinct RP scenarios/events that you, as an actor, could create for others (one paragraph each):

    Clockwork Child

"Having heard the rumors of the haunted clock tower in Vaer'Haven, you decide to visit it and see for yourself what all the fuss is about. As you approach the silent clock tower, you feel an odd sensation pass through you causing you to shiver. Almost instinctively you glance upwards towards the clock face and see an odd looking shadow crouching on top of one the hands. As you look up at the odd shadow, it swiftly clambers down a little and into a hole within the face of the clock. Upon entering the clock tower, you hear a faint childish scream, followed by the giggle of a girl. You shake your head as you begin to climb the stairs upwards, the scream still ringing in your thoughts.

    Dizzy's Demise

"Whilst walking through the corridors of Kal'Azgoth, you hear shouting to your left. You go to see what the commotion is about and as you approach the corner, you hear a man say "DIzzy will get what he deserves... The Lord will make sure he does..." and another reply "Yes, but how?" to which he responds "Our Lord possesses many abilities... especially those related to the Dark-" he stops abruptly and then you hear footsteps rapidly getting closer to you. Your heart starts racing as you look around for somewhere to hide, the footsteps almost upon you. Suddenly the footsteps stop and you hear the shuffling of feet and grinding of stone. When you peer around the corner, you see nothing other than black marks on the stone floor, curving away the wall."

    Malinor's Millionaire

"Wandering towards the Druids Grove, you spot a small object in the grass to your right, light glaring off of it. You reach into the grass and lift it out, brushing off dirt and mud. You examine the object carefully and see it's an ancient looking coin although not a Mina. After scanning it for any recognisable details, you frown and pocket it before going to move off but you trip over a small root and fall face first onto the ground. Opening your eyes, you spy another coin partly buried in the dirt. You scramble about a little, digging with your fingers to pry the coin which reveals even more loose coins buried with this patch of dirt. After uncovering approximately 20 of the unusual coins, you run off to find a shovel and return to dig a larger hole. Eventually you dig a hole that is half your height and hit a rectangular metal chest. Brushing away more of the dirt reveals a rusty lock which seems as if it could be easily broken. You haul the chest out the hole and drag it towards a friendly blacksmith who proceeds to smash his hammer upon the lock. As the hammer connects with the rusty lock, a dark and thick black fog seeps out the edge of the chest, enveloping both yourself and the blacksmith."

Thanks for taking the time to read my Event Team App :)

  12. I wish people would quit referencing this little tidbit as evidence, in what situation ever would a heavily armoured halfling (Halflings despise combat for the most part) antagonise two massive unarmoured Orcs?

I use that reference because it proves the point perfectly.

I never said it would be the Halfling that antagonising the Orcs.

What's to stop two Orcs approaching a Halfling, intending to rob him, and then the orcs are counting down for pvp and when it begins, the halfling running away, putting armour on then running back and killing them?

  13. Think of it this way,

If two people cant decide on RP-Fighting, Roll-Fighting or PvP fighting you think they're going to be able to RP fight without accusing each-other of powergaming or ultimately voiding the rp entirely?

PVP being "default" just means that there is a flip of the coin to fall back to if things can't be decided.

If it was up to me, i'd make "roll-fighting" be default instead - but it'd most likely need a plugin made to work properly.

I see where you're coming from but PVP just asks for more powergaming then RP. It's easy enough to screenshot RP chat and report it, but if you're being killed, you don't have time to screenshot them chasing after you in iron armour and you in none.

Many would say "Oh, record pvp" but not everyone can record 24/7 or open fraps/dxtory fast enough when pvp is announced.

Because RP fights can be very lengthy, and can often end up in OOC conflict. This is especially the case when one party wishes for PvP whilst the other wants RP, because they are generally much more bitter towards each other and, like before, leads to OOC conflict about whether or not an emote is PG etc. PvP default ensures that there's minimal OOC conflict, at least during the fight itself, and there will be no powergaming to cause it.

I'd encourage people to stop being so focused on whether they win or lose in PvP. It's a game and interesting RP can come from both winning and losing (not just for you, for other people around you), whether you win or lose it doesn't matter, and PvP is simply much faster.

One shouldn't choose PVP over RP just because it's less time consuming. You should choose the one that both of you are more comfortable with. I find more people PG'ing with PVP then with RP combat.

Realistically, a halfling would not be able to take on two fully grown male orcs, yet with pvp mechanics they can.

PVP is based on "who can click fastest" and "who has the better PC and more FPS". It shouldn't be like this because we shouldn't split the community based on who can afford the better PC and who is stuck on a laptop.

In my honest opinion, I prefer RP then PVP, simply because I came here to RP. If I want to PVP, I can go on a raid server or something.

  14. Think of it this way, if two people can't agree on a scenario (which is pretty often.) it should come down to the flip of a coin.

The flip of the coin in LoTC is settling the dispute with PVP.

How could two people settle on a role-played outcome when there is so many variables to disagree on?

This is a roleplay server, therefore in a lot of peoples opinion, roleplay SHOULD come first and be default. Why force us to use MC Mechanics on a server dedicated to roleplaying?

  15. I think there would have to be sufficient reason to change it back, at the moment, there isn't. It has gone quite smoothly so far.

Quite smoothly, other than the fact that a large percentage still prefer rp-default.

    But that's beside the point.

You didn't quite answer my question though since it's obvious it requires "sufficient reason" I'm just curious as to what that reasoning would have to be.
