  1. MC name:
Counsellor (just changed it from jens6851)

    Character's name and age:
    Jena Adealson

I've stopped counting, the countless reworks of time on this server have made that difficult. She's 1500 something. She's from Aegis. Old.

    Character’s Race:
    Elf

    What magic/s did you learn?:
Jena possess mastery of Fire Evocation.

    Who/how did you learn magic/s?:

Jena's adventure turned magical back in early Aegis where she got an adoptive father I have completely forgotten the name of, but was played by KarmaDelta. Back then, magic was quite the weird thing, but he was forging a bond to fire and attempting to tame it. Quite a lot about this element was explained to her back then, but it was only years later she would have this knowledge come to use.

For many years to come she honed her skills as a Druid, quite the opposite of the path she would eventually take to be quite honest, but nonetheless this turned her into a stronghold of peace and meditation as she let both the Aspects and Aeriel guide her path.

Soon enough the boats from The Verge set sail for the lands of Asulon and here she after several encounters with psychopaths and having to endure in a sanely manner under the pressure of losing a Human husband, she met Cataris Condoin, Evark and Dsdevil’s character which I’ve completely forgotten the name of.

This was mostly because they were currently starting a guild called Lu Teng that like my own guild, The Wihuns, which I was creating on my other account, disliked Rogue Mages, but were mages themselves… Anyhow. Here Jena (through some very great roleplay may I add) was taught how to fight and basically become really cool like the people from avatar the last airbender. Through both mental and physical shaping tasks, she was taught how to firebend use Fire Evocation by Evark who had been using Fire Evocation for a really long time, even by the standards back then. We have to note that while all of this was taking place Jena, from a mental standpoint, was really unstable and was on the very edge of becoming a villain herself.

Because the tasks at the Lu Teng were shaped the way they were, she eventually “graduated” as one of the few still living students. Now equipped with a great understanding and prowess in and of Fire Evocation. However! She as mentioned earlier was quite unstable and had therefor only been able to channel her connection to the void through anger and other such negative emotions. This made her spells strong, but she was unable to control it properly and for long durations of time.

Therefore, with this in mind I traveled to the literal edge of the world of Asulon and rp’ed all by myself for far too many hours. No seriously, I was rp’ing. All by myself. For hours. And it was awesome.

Here Jena, through mentally requiring tasks, shaped herself anew and once more pushed her limits so that she could become a person who had endured the torment of villains and countless of tortures from both Undeads back in Aegis (I’m looking at you Arkelos) and other such mental scars. I also believe that she was reunited with her Wolf/Dog called Coral. However, as I decided that I wanted iron armor so I could beat up the zombies that constantly steam rolled my camp at night out there in the wild, I realized that in the process of curing herself, Jena had also become quite unhinged from reality. Talking to her dog and whatnot was probably not as healthy as it had seemed.

At this point I think I took a small hiatus from the server due to magic applications being put in place. But nonetheless I continued to rp as if Jena was reshaping her being. Attempting to become a whole person once more through the art of Fire Evocation. We left Asulon and some other places and roleplay continued as it now does and after a couple of more years we’re now here. Tada! One also have to note just for the sake of it, that it’s somewhat ironic that Jena gains mastery of fire evocation since fire was the element that killed her biological father

Offer an explanation of said magic/s you learned:

Fire Evocation is the art of drawing the element of fire from the void and into our plane of existence. Through mana requiring focus, one is able to control this fire at will. However great study of the natural element must be made in order to copy its properties, otherwise one will not succeed in “summoning” the fire. However, this fire does not belong to our character’s plane of existence and therefor vanishes if one loses focus of it. It is drawn back into the void from hence it came.

  2. Well considering Jens' logical conclusion ended with GMs judging and banning accordingly - the ban he received for combat logging seems to indicate where the GMs reside. Not on the side of proto-feminist "consent is sexy".

This is new to me. I have been banned for combat logging? When? (also, the "consent is sexy" thing was a joke related to our discussion in case you didn't catch that one, cheers mate)

PS: You're completely side-tracking a healthy thread. Please refrain from doing that. Discussion and sharing opinions is a wonderful concept and there's really no need to attempt to discredit my opinions.

  3. I see it, but I do not see it as a problem. You don't need to roleplay with people who do not enjoy your roleplay. So yes, of course they can walk away. There's nothing worse than rp'ing through sour roleplay. It's just not fun to write a story with someone who is not willing.

  4. snip

Yes lol, of course you will allow them to wiggle. You stop if they don't like your roleplay. It's common human decency to respect those around you. Never take your Roleplay that seriously, man. And if the person bothers you in turn and tries to influence your rp while you can't influence him, you tell him to stop. If he doesn't, it is up to the GM's to judge the situation and ban accordingly.

  5. Note to self, kill people after torturing with the note 'Jerry told me to'. Thanks for the full response, El.

If someone is uncomfortable with the roleplay you force onto them, you stop roleplaying with that person. It's OOC, you respect that person and that they dislike the story telling you're trying to create. There's no need to waste your hard made roleplay on a person that don't enjoy it anyway.

  6. I randomly logged onto the forums today to see what was going on and found this. I'm not active anymore, due to.. Well. A lot of things.

But as a member of this community I for one want Gi'Garun to become a GM, if this is what he truly wants. It's a tiring, stressing and quite frankly soul crushing job to be a GM on LotC. Take care of yourself my friend, but /if/ this is what you truly want.

Then yes, you are more than capable.

Give this man the blue badge already and let him help this server out. It desperately need good people like him.

  7. Attending seems possible, an elderly man would mumble at himself upon opening the letter. Wonderful to be invited to a party, one would feel so important. Oh the joy, yes, yes one needs to show up at such an occasion. After all, it's been a long time since the writer and old man had last met.

  8. I would be very interested in getting a sketch of my character if you want to! :)

    QSlIX6H.png

This is a picture of him, things that are note worthy for his appearance is that he is OLD, but a smile is always seen on his face behind the beard of his. He's definitely a merry fellow. His hair however is dyed, making it very bushy and dry, I suppose. Furthermore he is overweight. :)

I hope you have fun drawing it if you decide to. Thanks!

PS: Should you put on the hard task of drawing him with body and all, then note that he oftens carries a walking cane around.

  9. A folded scroll with purple bindings would be seen attached to the notice board in The Cloud Temple in response to the post.

    ----------

Dear Iatrilemar Elervathar of Malin descend.

Over the span of my life I've not practiced the magical arts a lot, but rather studied them intensely. However a fond memory of mine I would like to share is from the first time I dared lay my hands on pure arcane evocation after months upon months of studying. It took place in the dully lit and quite narrow chambers of mine, only a few candles would have been seen present, standing by the window in the far end of the room. I myself was standing on the cold stone floor, grasping the golden embedded wand of mine in my sweaty palm. The wand  was quivering up and down as the exhausting and rather taxing sensation most users of the arcane know of, was felt spreading through my bones. A dire frown of what I suppose was concentration could have been seen on my already wrinkled face as for the thousandth of times an almost invisible disturbance in the air, at the tip of the wand was seen, vibrating ever so faintly.

I was tired at this point in time and most of all I had only one desire in mind: To pull a blanket over my head and fall asleep. However, for some inconceivable reason I had convinced myself to try once more. So there I was. And the ebullience I felt upon getting the sensation of having all air getting sucked out of my lungs for just a second, must be something you can relate to: For before my eyes a tiny and light blue wisp was softly floating about in a very aimless manner. In my excitement I yelled out, breaking my deep concentration.

So understandably it disappeared from the face of the world. Only having been into existance for a very short while. Then I noted it, and went to bed with a smile. Aye, what an evening that was. I've yet to pick up my wand again and try Arcane Evocation once more. But the studies and memories I have gained from that time have proved quite useful, so I suppose I can personally thank you for sharing the knowledge you gained upon rediscovering this ancient art.

    So thank you.

With the most sincerest of regards from:

    - John Lartius Fredfort.

  11. Everything in the spoiler has to do with the high elves. I don't believe this discussion is appropriate for this thread, but I just wanted to say a lot of things.

Okay, I'm not going to do the whole paragraph-by-paragraph rebuttal because I find those terribly obnoxious. Before we begin, I need to express how long ago Aegis was--more than two years ago, now. I feel anything that happened then is long, long since become irrelevant. But that's just my opinion, please don't pick on that one! :(

Okay. I argue that the High Elves transition from the Aegisian 'culture' (of which I know little) to current Athera Haelun'or culture was, more-or-less, natural.

Something that people forget is that the high elves were the first ever 'bigoted' group to appear on the server. IC, the culture was re-discovered in Asulon, inside the ruins of a grand library. The philosophy of maehr'sae hiylun'ehya was liked, and a number of high elves chose to live in the fashion that these ancient and extinct high elves did. They took the arrogant mindset that they were better than the other races, and always took their time to talk about it. They would lecture visitors who came to their city how fabulous they were and how clever they were, and how great it was to be a high elf. They barred orcs from the city, though, due to significant cultural differences and violence. All very arrogant and so-forth. Marvellous fun.

Now, OOC, the lore was crafted near the end of Aegis (If I get any details wrong, I'm sorry. I've only learned this second-hand for the most part). Work on High Elf culture was started by VonEbs and later on Sporadic, Relinquo_Angelus, Esterlen, and Ranovak joined in. The latter-four wanted something different than the usual Elven shtick, so they took on elements of elves from other sources. So followed a scrambling of bits and bobs and squashing things together. Not every high elf liked the end result, but quite a few did. The guys who wrote it stressed in various threads to all high elves that they were not obliged to act the way Haelun'or did. We were not out to change everything OOC, just that those who wanted to join in, could. So it was thrown at Native, he liked it, and 'lo and behold the library was set up in Asulon. Early days of high-elf land was mainly made up of trying to choose an architecture style they liked. They went from wooden houses to horrendously ugly 6-story towers, and walls were non-existent. They declared their independence from Malinor at this time. Outsiders came into the city freely, and took part in high-elven shenanigans--whether it be snooting around, robbing their houses, drinking with them, attacking them, or just hanging out in general. Though, many individuals took snootiness poorly back in those days and had a tendency to attack. Walls were erected to keep out the less reputable individuals. But then some raids occurred. I forget from whom (probably orcs protesting the racism) but that prompted the high elves to keep their gates shut. Which still goes on today.

Then came the orc warclaim, which is when stuff started to get more familiar. Now, the high elves had disagreements with the Mori and their subservient dark elves for a fair while. And there had been a number of skirmishes in and around the city and forests. Considerable trust was lost with them. These Mori and dark elves helped the orcs attack the city, and, to very little surprise from anyone (save perhaps the high elves themselves) it was sacked. The Malinorian High Prince (Haelphon I think it was), who was suspected to have allowed the orcs through his lands to attack, came to Haelun'or a day after the battle and informed a weeping and injured Ellir'siol (The de-facto demagogue) that her people had brought the attack upon themselves. This left a rather poor taste in certain witnesses mouths. For instance, a young and impressionable Lucion Sullas, who had quite a bit of influence over the city for quite a bit of time. Later came the influx of human raids off the the tail of a young and fresh Holy Oren Empire, and the infamous dark elf Rei. So, lets take note of folks they didn't trust/loathed at this point.

Malinor--Who (allegedly) allowed orcs through their lands to attack them,

Dark elves/Mori--For the attacks and aiding their enemies,

Humans--For their ever-expanding empire and raiders,

    Orcs--because they were orcs.

Its been mentioned that several aspects of the High Elven world, such as the purging and killing of folks that do not agree with them was just an OOC choice. Really, the purging part of this was a very recent addition. There were always nasty High Elves from the beginning. Asulon High Elves like Nelecar championed brainwashing and execution of impure high elves. But this fellow was crazy IC, and very few people gave in to all his ideals. Furthermore, there were characters on the original silver council (Dio Astore, Ellir'siol, Artaeum, and Lucion Sullas) that could keep him in check. But then came other, unchallenged monsters, like Kalenz Uradir (who we will get to in more detail later). IC (and I'm not sure if I should tell you this meta-ish stuff) his mind was corrupted by the Lich Cataris, and ol' Kalenz has slowly been going more and more loco since then. When Dio, Ellir, and Nelecar all went innactive/exiled-suicided, the city was left to the influence of Lucion Sullas (AKA, my character). He was a stern and ardent neutral-pacifist when it came to foreign politics, and never condoned killing of any kind. Even if it was an orc-elf hybrid or something similarly horrible by high-elven standards was more likely to leave quite thoroughly alive. Near the end of Asulon, we joined up with Malinor again out of IC necessity, and spent Elysium and Kalos(?) hanging with them--which was good and bad. I'm not going to go into the OOC, as there was quite a bit of anti-us in those days, but the High Elves themselves actually managed to get one of their Princes into the High Prince station after a semi-coup of Bravepaw by the council. Lucion didn't like that, so he left the Malinor Council. The High elves themselves also found themselves in the midst of a number of impures, religious figures, and other foul things they took unkindly to. They were displeased at the state of things. Come Anthos, they made their way to the new Haelun'or, and were all quite happy to have some space. After the ensuing conflicts Malinor got itself in, the high elves seceded. IC, Lucion didn't wish to make demands for land in the independence declaration, because he felt it was more polite to discuss it in person. Only one meeting upon the subject occurred between himself and Princess Titania, and it was not revisited until a plucky high elf in the service of the Princedom demanded an audience. They denied the request despite the high elves arguing they needed the land directly outside their walls for farming.  Around this time, Oren annexed Malinor's land, and it became a vassal under the Kingdom of Kaedrin, and they gave the high elves the land they needed. OOC I had to go inactive for a while, so Lucion handed leadership over to the young up-and-coming political beast Kalenz Uradir--A mischievous fellow with ties to the Polgrath-lead Arcane Delvers, and the infamous White Rose. Anthos shenanigans included; fighting against druids over cutting down elder trees that were allowing raiders into the city, arguing and getting into trouble with dwarves over one anvil or another, hunting 'The Fallen,' a group lead by an infamous impure, attempting (and failing) to fend off raiders of many nationalities... guh... I am so sick of writing at this point. I'll just sum it up with another list. They now disliked/distrusted

Dwarves-- Because anvil business (I know there was significant OOC conflict, but I won't go into that due to the freshness of the bile)

Malinor-- Due to poor relations and bad memories.

Conclave-- because it basically was Malinor in the eyes of the High Elves,

Snow Elves--Because they attacked a party being attended by High Elves,

    Orcs--Because they're orcs.

    Now add that to Asulon's.

Malinor--Who (allegedly) allowed orcs through their lands to attack them,

Dark elves/Mori--For the attacks and aiding their enemies,

Humans--For their ever-expanding empire and raiders,

    Orcs--because they were orcs.

    Now, those they did like:

Kha-- Due to close relations that I forgot to write in, and cannot be buggered (Sorry, Tiazar. :( ))

White Rose/assorted humans-- Official alliances and friendly relations.

Then came the Fringe, and I think that's recent enough for me not to worry about.

The current High Elven attitude towards the other races is due to IC interactions, and not due to OOC. Now that I have pretty much written out our entire history, I am going to have a cup of tea. However, one last thing to consider.

The high elves took in the dark elves and the wood elves (as well as the snow elves for a time. Sorry about that, Narthok. ;-; ) and tried to build something with them. Now there have been significant tensions, and certainly quite a number of angry feelings, but one of many results is this: High elves are softening slowly on other races. Dark Elves, Wood Elves and Humans are regarded quite nicely by the citizens, and there has even been an Orc or two wandering around that haven't been killed on sight. The main square of the city is almost always open to anyone who doesn't cause trouble. Is there another natural change upon the horizon? Perhaps! Who knows? I'm going to drink tea now.

Tl;dr: Things happened that are covered in the previous paragraphs.

Kudos to you, Sir. I'm geniunely glad for the sum up, especially with the last parts regarding the take over of certain people on the political front. It's lovely and interesting to see the clear reasons behind the current High Elven ideals as it explains the culture people usually follow, even if some people don't know of the reasoning it to the point. With the knowledge of this and the lastest history behind the High Elven political elites action I, actually, look very much forward to hear of what will happen next. However, I do stand by my previous point and of course still hope to see it to become easier to engage in roleplay with the High Elves as soon as possible.

I encourage scrollers of this thread to seriously consider reading Mithradites post in the spoiler above. And perhaps even propose that his post should be archieved somewhere as it could give valuable insight in the High Elven culture both now and in the future.

  12.

Please, stop trying to change high elven culture. The quirks it has makes it unique to itself, and I'd rather play a culture and race with likes and dislikes rather than 'everybody needs to love each other and get along'. This isn't an episode of Barney, people.

The current High Elven culture in general discourages cooperative roleplay made for them outside their own community. Furthermore, there's a huge difference between changing a culture and being more open to roleplay given to them by outsiders. Instead of being dismissing and plain rude to the other races, The High Elves could threat them as children or just as they should be, lesser. Show the child around their magnificent and much more sophisticated city. After all, The High Elves live for thousand of years, a few minutes of their time hurts no-one. Their culture does not make it so you can not roleplay with other people. The typical city High Elves (in general) just simply don't.

Showing more pride for their heiritage, instead of actual hatred for the other races, could potentially enhance the roleplay within their city while creating some for others too. After all. Roleplay is about giving to your fellow players. You create histories which you share and you inspire one another to be creative.

But it's just a thought I felt like sharing, mainly because as a player who're currently playing a Human character, I miss roleplay from the Elves and at the time have no real opportunity to engage in such with them as they in a sense is a closed community. Which is of course, from my point of view, sad. Other people may feel this too, which is a perhaps a reason for the little engagement in nation roleplay.

As you wander through the lands of Athera and go about doing your everyday duties and chores, you would in several public libraries encounter copies of a series of books, bound in thick and hardened light brown leather. Upon the front of them, thick metal letters would be attached, writing out the title of the works. Free to read for the curious mind.

((I would like to note that these are purly In-Character and are merely roleplay which have been concluded and decided to be written into this series. It is entirely up to you if your character choose to believe in the following writings, furthermore the truth of them are probably close to none, but are presented as being factual for In-Character reasons. I hope that you will enjoy the read, leave feedback if you feel like it. :D ))

    Introduction

    -=-
The Cosmos: The name used to describe all far objects that rest in the sky of our realm. Or in Flexio, the language of Aenguls and Daemons old, Caelum: The heavens. This name also implies that our heavens are in an orderly state. But as observed in other realms, as well as our own, we see little order. If anything we are seeing disorderly order. Systematic clutter, to some extend.

In this Volume I’ll set up a natural line of logical thought and use various measurements to specify what the shape of our realm is. I’ll try to convey my point as precise and plain as possible while still explaining my line of thought and measurements. I seek to have both the entirety of The Wizards community and the common folk understand this concept.

I will through previously mentioned methods specify the shape of our Realm.

  14. Lartius froze as he heard the breeze flow through the lands of Athera, the music of the wind turning into faint words which he heard as well. With his eyes wide and jaw fallen, his gaze rapidly darted from one place to another as he tried to locate the source of this feminine voice, of course to no avail. Lartius only knew of one who with such an angelic voice, she however had not been spotted or written about in the history records for thousands of years. At least to his knowledge.

Perhaps... Perhaps she had returned once more to guide the races of the world. Lartius marvelled at his own thoughts, continuing to look around even as the faint whisper had died out, his hand would be seen grasping tightly around his walking cane which he was supporting himself with, it shaking subtly. And from behind the bushy beard of his a smile would be seen on his old and wrinkled face. A single tear formed in his eye and slowly rolled down his cheek, only to fall into the grass below as Lartius let out a sigh and stared off into the distance towards the heavens above.

"It couldn't be... Hmpff.. Please don't let this be a dream..." He muttered under his breath in a weak voice to no one in paticular, except of course himself.
