The Echelon of Protection, headed by the Lord Protector, is responsible for maintaining the safety and overall defense of the Concord of Llyria. They oversee and enforce the laws of the Concord, and issue punishments to those that break such regulations, and rise to the defense of the people in the case of raids and war. 

• The Traceless: The Traceless Order is the first, and currently singular, force that falls under the Echelon of Protection. Responsible for all the duties that come with it, as a guard force and a standing militia in the unlikely event of war. 

• • They enforce law, and in certain time of need higher ranking guards can even deputize citizens to act on the guards behalf. When becoming a member the Traceless swear an oath to uphold the justice of the Llyrian Concord, and promise to keep their identity hidden, thus the name of Traceless. This is to protect them, for by protecting their identity in turn protects their family, friends, citizens, and fellow guards.

Joining the Traceless Order is as simple as approaching a guard of Sentinel ranking or higher, or sending a letter to one of the individuals. Though most often the easiest way is to contact the Lord Protector Arik Regis (Assassinofawsome) or the Senior Knight Magnus Caelum (Tahmas), individuals which can be found around the city. It is also possible to send a letter to the capital addressed to the Tracless Order through their highly advanced pigeon coop messaging format.

Astral Conduit does nothing but allow you to charge Astra into your Shard before summoning, it still requires EXACTLY the same amount of emotes to do anything, Astral Conduit is a “Bonus Blessing” for taking yourself all the way down that path, which requires giving over all 5 of your Magic Slots to Ascended magic. So I really don’t see where your issues may arise, as for a link to the orignal lore:

Hopefully with this current lore Ascended can finally hang their hat, but with having to rewrite and reform our entire basic idea of a group some serious changes needed/have been made. They are now defenders of the people, essentially, but now they have a few ways to be that without all doing the same thing, and without having to give up Astra to learn another magic. This is a way for Ascended to be stronger through dedication to their magic.

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s):

After the change in Ascended Magic (Aka the rewrite) the Agents of Aeriel now protect Descendent souls as a whole through a combination of defensive and buffing/debuffing magic. This magic is channeled through a Divine focus known as a Tearstone Shard, which is created through the crystallization of the Agents Soul, which in turn halts the aging of the mortal turning them into an Immortal Agent of the Archaengul. As they grow in power (tiers) the Ascended can begin to call upon Astra and channel it through their Tearstone shard to cast spells. This tearstone shard is the implement that channels all of an Ascended spells, which brings a risk should it be harmed as if it receives a lot of damage it will shatter and must be regenerated. 

Spells in the Ascended’s repertoire are most often focused on defense, or making life a little harder on their opposition, such as Astral Armor to defend themselves or allies, or Crystallization to slow and hamper enemy forces.  Casting spells becomes easier as an Ascended grows in tier, but functions more or less the same; by channeling an amount of Astra, and then ‘spending’ it to cast the spell of their choice after declaring their targets with ‘Highlighting’ which is the first spell an Ascended will master, as it allows them to target people with their magic. In some cases bless or debuff the target with Divine Strength/Weakness. 

An Ascended can also expand magical knowledge, learning other magics (as listed on the magic post) gaining more versatility in exchange for a lesser Astra pool. 

The Ascended must also be cautious, as though Aeriel bestows upon them a regenerative property, they heal at a slower rate. About two times slower than a normal person, unless submerged in the waters of an Astral Sanctuary which can speed their healing up. 

It is also important to note, that though the Ascended use a type of water for their magic, Voidally summoned water is also their bane. Able to shut down just about all of their spells, and bring great harm to their Tearstone Shard.
