  1. Out-Of-Character

    Minecraft Account Name: spiritoftheram

How old are you?: I am currently 13, but will be turn 14 in a couple weeks.

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: I live in U.S.A. and my time zone is Eastern Standard Time.

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I have an excellent grip on the English language.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I am a rower, coached by a many time Olympic Gold Medalist Rower from Romania. He has taught me undying dedication, which I will give to my role-playing. I also enjoy programming, military strategy, and sparring in my free time. (Aside from playing Minecraft)

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: That varies on the time of the year. In the summer and winter, I can be on twelve to fourteen hours a week. During the spring and fall, I can be on the server about seven to eight hours, due to long rowing practices and airsoft matches.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “to act out the role of.” Roleplaying is more than that to me. Roleplaying is not only dressing up and taking the name of a character, but also to act as a character through one’s actions and words. A person that is good at roleplaying will not just speak, but adopt the language/dialect of his/her character. The person must also role-play through the character’s actions. An angelic character would not loot and pillage, when being role-played by somebody with experience.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I previously played on two roleplaying servers, ImDeities and Age of Fatality. Besides that, I occasionally participate in LARPing (Live-Action Role-Playing).

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-gaming is when you obtain Out-Of-Character from other players and use it In-Character. The role-playing is taken away and the experience of adventure becomes tarnished by this. For example, if Player A is at a battle in Arethor, Player B can’t just run from the Cloud Temple and fight alongside Player A, if Player B doesn’t know where Arethor is. Also, the meta-gaming is worsen if Player A uses out of game communication to alert Player B of the fighting.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power-Gaming is giving your character impossible abilities via role-play. An example one player told me while we were at school went like this.

Human: Shots crossbow bolt at orc. Hits non-vital region.

    Orc: Doesn’t care.

    Human: Reloads crossbow.

    Fighting continues.

Human (angry at this point): Fires crossbow bolt at orc’s head.

Orc: Bolt bounces off, leaving a scratch.

As you can see, the orc was clearly power-gaming. This not only ruins the role-playing experience, but it also upsets those who fall victim to power-gamers.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I expect this server to rich with story and roleplaying. Unlike some other so-called “roleplaying servers”, this server will have a storyline that never ceases to keep the players interested, rich and in depth lore that not only explains some backstory, but leaves cliffhangers and room for imagination to keep people reading and listening. This server will also amazing roleplaying and game mechanics, including a well-developed leveling system, custom designed to fit the server’s needs.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I have played on a roleplaying server called Age of Fatality, a free-for-all, griefing server called Mortalis, and a faction server called Citycraft. I stopped playing on Mortalis due to the players that constantly spawn kill while wearing diamond armor and carrying diamonds swords. I left Citycraft due partially to griefers, but mainly because my partner in my assassin guild left me. He went to this server (username: watyll), so I decided to come with him for a good roleplaying server. I left Age of Fatality due to staff that constantly abused their power, including the administrator. I played on ImDeities, but left due to a mute (Which occurred when I just joined the server and hadn’t even chatted yet. Weird, right?) and due to staff that were never on, even with five hundred slots.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have read the rules, understand them, and agree to the rules.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I, spiritoftheram, promise to abide by said rules and laws including the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules.

How did you hear about us? Did someone refer you?: A good man I know told me about this server. His username is “watyll”.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: Nope, this is my first whitelisting application.

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): Will do.

    In-Character:

Character Name: Vindel Aeradragas (but he is usually referred to as just Vindel)

    What Race are you?: Elf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Wood Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Vindel grew up in family of farmers. His family, not having much farmland, was poor and just scraping by. After his mother, the kind-hearted elf she was, took in a baby boy that was left on her doorstep. With this extra mouth to feed, the family’s food was pushed past its limit and the family began to starve. To keep them alive, his father took out loans. When his father could not pay them back, the lenders threaten to take their house. The family had to sell what little food it had. His adopted brother, being so young and helpless, nearly died of starvation. To give his family food, Vindel and his father tried to hunt. Vindel was still relatively young, and at such an age, he was loud. This scared away many a deer. The young boy finally was allowed to shoot his father’s bow, and fell in love with archery. He practiced with a small bow while his father hunted. Once he felt confident with his skills, he went out to hunt. Remember what his father taught him, he tracked down a hare. Though it took two attempts, he finally brought it down. From then on, Vindel and his family were able to survive on their farm and the meat that the older males provided.

When he was eighteen (human years), his father gave him a real bow, as a coming of age gift. The bow became his sole companion; he shunned those who did not believe in the bow. He began to grow distant from those he had once held close. The bow was no longer just his sole companion, but his whole life. Hearing of the Rangers of the Forest, Vindel becomes delighted to know others share his fascination with the bow. He ran away from his family, making a simple hut in the wilderness. What time he didn’t spend farming to survive, Vindel spent wandering the forest paths, hoping for a bandit to attack him, and the Rangers save him, so he could join their guild. Ever since running away, Vindel has become homesick, but is afraid of facing his family, for the fear of his family pushing him away, like he did to them, is too great. He wanders, but his emotions give way to his logical thought. Vindel, taking nothing, goes home to his family, only to find that they have died of the plague, along with most of the neighborhood, after one of his father’s friends caught it while on a business trip. In a fit of mixed emotions, Vindel runs to his hut and burns it all to the ground. Realizing his terrible mistake a little too late, Vindel is left with nothing but a shirt, a pair of trousers, a tattered cloak, his empty quiver, his wits, and his skills. Here readers, is where we pick up with Vindel’s journey in a dangerous world full of action, adventure, and, of course, role-playing.

Vindel is a disciplined archer, with much patience and serenity, but tends to bottle up his stress and unleash it all in one angry fit, which usually leads to knife fights, one of Vindel's weaker points. He is still a young elf, only 68 Human Years/Orcish Seasons old. Vindel is a rare elf, born with half High Elf and half Wood Elf. Vindel's skin follows that of his High Elf mother, but most of his traits take after his Wood Elf father. Some examples are his eyes, dirty-blonde hair, and his natural love for archery.

What is your Character's ambitions?: Vindel has no greater wish than to simply let the troubles of the world pass by him. He just wants to let this life pass, without worries such as women to please or other mouths to feed. He does, however, wish to assist others so that their problems do not worsen and affect him without his choosing. Vindel’s fantasy is to join the Rangers of The Forest, but until then, he is content to let life pass by.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Vindel’s favorite tool is by far the bow and arrow. By complete accident, Vindel has found not only a passion, but also a way of life.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Vindel is a master of the bow. He ranks with some of the Rangers, or so he thinks.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): They are attached. I am having trouble with putting them here.

Other Information about your Character: Vindel is a farmer, and very good at being one. He also picked up a couple skills, such as how to create a hoe to farm with. Vindel likes to know as much as he can about the situation, and will go to desperate measures to do so.

    Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? First, Vindel sneaks into cover, using the time of day to his advantage. Then concealed, he repeatedly fires arrows into the ground at the feet of the armed warriors. If this scare tactic does not work, then Vindel shoots the armed warriors in the arm, trying to disarm them, rather than waste lives that could be used to help others. If they continue to harass, or even try to kill the halfling, Vindel will resort to killing or dangerously wounding the warriors.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Vindel, curious, checks to see what the merchant has for sale. If the merchant has necessary supplies, Vindel picks up the supplies. Vindel also picks up a sparkling necklace, in case he wishes to bribe/pay a woman for information. After talking with the merchant, Vindel will most likely invite him for a drink at the local tavern, provided the man is benevolent. During the drinking, Vindel will make sure that he gets to know the city just as a normal citizen would.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Vindel, seeing nothing of much use to himself, will leave the items in the chest alone. Vindel remembers the location, in case he is ever in need an emergency hideout, or if his family needs to move to a safe house.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Vindel offers them whatever coin he has for some of their supplies, but just enough to survive, being careful not to overuse his welcome. If Vindel has no coin, then he shall offer them his services and labor in exchange for food.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Vindel sneaks out of the town with his bow. He drops down into a soft tread gained from years of hunting in the woods. Creeping towards the bandits unnoticed, Vindel creeps into the surrounding cover. Silently, he draws an arrow from his quiver. Nocking it, he takes aim and lets it fly. Hitting the soldier in the back, Vindel fumbles for another arrow as the bandits search for the location. Two begin to charge at what they see of him. Again he lets it fly. The arrow sways, curving in midair. It slices one bandit’s throat before landing in the other’s shoulder. This alerts the rest of the bandits and they begin to charge towards him. Out of nowhere, a volley of arrows flies and lands in the crowd. All Vindel sees is a hooded figure leaving the scene. All but one warrior is down, and Vindel, out of time to grab another arrow, flees back to the safety of the town. From there, he takes out the last bandit with a simple shot. He accepts little payment, knowing the Rangers of The Forest are watching him.
