What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Shapeshifting

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s):

Shapeshifting is a subtype of druidic magic reserved for druids who have proven themselves worthy and ready to receive this secretive gift. When a druid is chosen, they will perform three trials to test themselves in order to discover and eventually become one with their animal. Shapeshifting allows a druid to completely transform into an animal’s physical form at will. This transformation is only temporary however, and as the druid grows in strength, so too will their endurance within their shapeshifted form. There are limitations to how long they can maintain their animal form.

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

Elswyen would find a secluded spot, both from prying eyes and ears. She would sit her student down with her in the calm location before clapping her hands together as if to signal the beginning of the lesson.

“To alter your physical form will strain both your body and your mind. Please make sure you are ready.” Elswyen would say to her student, studying them all the while. However, the student would nod. With determination upon them, she was content enough to start.

“Your flesh will warp and your bones will malform to meet the shape and structure of your animal. It will be painful, and your exhaustion will not allow you to maintain it for long. Make sure you retreat to hiding before your form gives up.” Elswyen donned a serious expression at that before continuing, “Once you return to your regular self, you will notice a varying amount of changes. First and foremost being not so much your physical fatigue, but your mental and emotional fatigue. You won’t be able to shift to your animal form again for awhile.” She smiled, before she began to explain the varying degrees of exhaustion that comes with using the gift.

“As you age with your spirit animal, you will start to find your personality and behaviour becomes affected by the personality of your animal. For some shapeshifters, their diet and appetites change, for others they take on new phobias of certain locations, objects, or other animals.” Elswyen offered a smile before continuing the explanation, “With experience, you will also begin to control your form more. You will be able to maintain it longer, and your body will experience less fatigue and pain during the transition and aftermath.” A subtle cough came out as she added on, “I implore you don’t stay too long in your form either, unless you would like to be a goat for most of your life.” She ended her sentence with a small joke and laugh. “Now please do keep in mind that while in your animal form, you are still vulnerable. Some darker magic, or dampening magic, can affect you shifting into your animal, or even shifting out. You also won’t be able to use your gifts while in your form either.”

The student offered a nod, to which Elswyen once more offered a genuine smile. She would gesture for them to make an attempt at shifting, to which she would watch and wait patiently. As the student begins to focus, their physical form begins to morph. Their bones snap and crack, readjusting into their new form as fur begins to sprout from their skin. After a few more painful moments, the student’s transformation is complete as they fall exhausted into the grass below.

“You did absolutely fantastic, my dear.” Elswyen offers a warm smile, kneeling down in the grass next to her student. “We’ll wait as long as you need, it’s quite a tiring process. After that, I’ll treat you to some tea and fresh sugar cookies.”

As for Its_Just_Leap’s comment, you can calm down, alright? Seriously, you can be more mature than just typing in red text and complaining about I don’t know much about server lore. The only thing I see wrong with your replies is that you all ignore that fact that your lore remains incomplete and not much of these deities/realms that can be visited have not been visited or even used much this map. Why not just make stories about these deities? Visit these realms and explore their unknown bounds?

So, before you go blowing off on me, think about it. Why shouldn’t there be storylines to connect these deities or even to visit these magical realms?

As an LT you’re gonna need to know lore in and out, especially for whatever section you’re applying for. You might have to handle situations with powergaming involving a magic or an abuse of an item. If you wanna write stories just write stories, you don’t need to be an LT to get creative.

  3. I've had a problem with Aesopian's September event since it started. All of the events have been scripted to lose for the defenders, which just makes the events unfun and extremely bland to go to in the first place. They feel like a chore. We're not going to win, so why bother? At the very start we had probably 35 druids go to September's chamber to do a ritual that only put him down by 30% 'wakefulness', and we can only do that once every 4 weeks?? But a spook sneezing anywhere near it brings it up by 5? It's stupid and it's extremely unfair for the rest of us.

You weren't allowed to do druidic events because you continuously broke our lore and messed with it. You can't have a forest of Soul Trees, and I don't care what kind of ET bullshit you want to pull out of your ass. It's not even  'ET magic', it's completely lore breaking and even after outcry from the druids, you kept doing it. Even when you outed shapeshifting in a ******* server broadcast over a 'dream', you ignored us entirely. You don't get to pick the cool parts of lore and ignore the actual downsides of it because you want to play god.

September as an event character is just a mistake. You stop emoting when he's going to die or stub his toe, you spawn in monsters directly on top of people instead of through a gate or something normal so people could actually have a chance. All of your sieges have been scripted to lose. People do not have a chance in these events. For the most part, these people just go because they've already invested way too much time into your garbage. Doing /sphere air 30 right below people was pretty cool I guess. The amount of coordination in the recent High Elf seige was incredibly good on the defender's part, but you stopped emoting when you'd lose, so, you know thats pretty A+ .

Yes but to be fair you probably won't be raided if you're a smaller settlement with no genuine greivances to another nation. Since these rules heavily restrict raids insofar as no alts, need demonstratable allegiances, needing a base.

I'm talking about the halflings and the druids. We're decently active playerbases with land that don't actively fight and pvp. We are groups that are centered around roleplay, on a roleplay server. Druids specifically were nearly drove off the server in Vailor because we were raided relentlessly and robbed. Smaller settlements with no guardforce can't defend themselves against an uncapped raid with two day timers. We're easy targets.

2.4 Any chest within the confines of the raided settlement may be broken open by the victorious offensive party provided the appropriate destructive emote is provided. Rolling is not required.

People could lose literal years of work because of clicking and next to no roleplay.

Hire mercenaries! Or pay off the raiders with pixels. There are always solutions to problems but I feel people can't get out of the headspace of grr ooc grudges.

Hence 2 day cds with clauses and such. The alternative position could say 'oh 21 day cooldowns well how will raiders find rp'

as a playerbase that can't rally enough defenders who can repel an uncapped raiding party we will be stuck with 2 day cool downs that would kill our activity completely

What map did you join during?: Asulon

Do you have access to a Microphone? Yes

Average Daily Play Time? Two to three hours on weekdays, though this can vary depending on the day. I’m reachable whenever I’m awake through discord. I read through all my chats, and would be able to immediately respond to pings or messages if I’m around at the time.

Have you held any LotC staff position(s) before? If so, for how long?: I’ve been on the AT for about two weeks. I’m enjoying the AT so far, especially with helping out the community and new players. I would say these experiences relate to being a GM as I want to assist players with their problems. I wanted to apply for GM in the past but felt as if my time was restricted, now I have the time and ability to take on the position.

Do you have prior history in any forms of moderation? I have been a hockey referee for around four years now. As an official, I moderate the game and make sure that play is fair and safe for all players on the ice. I deal with confrontation and stressful, demanding situations nearly every game, either through parents, coaches, or players.

Why do you want to join the GM Team?:

I want to help out players and the community. I feel like the position of GM can greatly help with that. I enjoy new experiences, challenges, and helping out others. I’m motivated and wanting to give this a shot.

Have you applied for this position before and been denied? If so, link the application:

Describe your knowledge on the descendant races

Humans are cursed with shortened lives, which goes hand-in-hand with their common and imperialistic spread of population. Their sub-races include Heartlanders, Highlanders, and Farfolk. Heartlanders are played more than the others, and are often in major human settlements or cities. Highlanders are the european and northern subtype of humans and will often join their kin in their own cities or settlements, or go with the Heartlanders. Farfolk usually surround the gypsies, eastern, and darker skinned ethnicities. Farfolk have the most varying amount of cultures and traditions.

Elves are cursed with infertility, which combats their long lasting lives that span up to 1000 years, though they tend to lose their mind before or around then. Their sub-races include Wood Elves, Dark Elves, High Elves, and Snow Elves. Generally Elves are quite tall, with High elves being the tallest of the elves and Wood elves being the shortest. Culture varies between each sub-race. Wood elves generally practice Druidism or follow the Aspectist faith, with High elves following a strict code of racial purity, and Dark Elves having a couple varying cultures to do with their ancestors.

Dwarves are cursed with greed, shortness, and often disfigured appearances or bad temperaments. Though they were given honour and strength of mind. The sub-races include Mountain Dwarves, Cave Dwarves, and Forest Dwarves. Mountain Dwarves and Cave Dwarves often live in or around the dwarven capital, or in their respective clans. Forest Dwarves tend to be nomadic, but not always. The ones that live around the capital will often focus on clans and honour, both being a staple piece to the common dwarves.

Orcs were cursed with the lust of war, murder and pillaging, as well as a heartless nature and often ugly appearance. Though they were granted with valour and honour. Their sub-races include goblins, uruks, and ologs. The entirety of orc culture has a focus around clans and tribes. Those that refuse the culture of the Uzg are met with the whitewash branding. Uruks are the medium between the other two sub-races, and have greater strength with basic intelligence. Goblins have the strength and size equivalent to humans, but increased intelligence with the ability to speak fluently in other languages. Ologs are the largest of the orcs, and have little to no intelligence but great size, strength, and hunger.

Describe your knowledge on other pieces of lore that you believe to be relevant

I believe AT members need to have a basic understanding of most lore pieces incase new players ask for it, or if you need to provide it to them for their application or getting started.

Players should feel immersed in the world around them. Geography of the land along with flora and fauna lore pieces are a very fundamental part in starting out. The world of Atlas as well as its inhabitants are what players will often use to create their backstory. Having basic knowledge of how the common magics work is also an important piece that new players may ask about. Since you cannot start out with magic, applicants might create an ambition for their character to pursue which revolves around some sort of magic. I have a vast knowledge of druidism. As well as the basic understanding of voidal magics, some dark magics, and the various magical creatures. These are things that a new player may make mention of in their application or post-application.

Detail what drives you to become a member of the application team

I want to be able to provide new players with a strong grounding on the server, and guide them through the application process and starting out on the server itself. I wish to give players a good understanding of the server’s standards and assist players with preparing for those standards, while still presenting a welcoming attitude and answering any questions they may have.

Provide an alternate way to assisting new players apart from reviewing applications

I believe that staying in the Help and Wandering Soul chats are a good start. Always being available to answer questions, and guiding new or returning players through the server and assisting them with a welcoming attitude if they need it. Providing a player with a variety of lore posts that cater to their character would help them gain a better understanding of the world around them. Offering tours of the player’s racial capital or providing them with quick roleplay interactions can really get a player involved if they do not have much experience with roleplay environments.

Survey the application process and provide any possible improvements which could be made

From what I’ve seen, new players seem to struggle in getting comfortable with roleplay. Starting out on a large server with dozens of different cities is incredibly stressful and daunting for new players. They usually just need a bit of help with integrating into the roleplay hub they want to join, and getting a hang of the chat system. This is something I would really love to help with. I would make sure to help new players who join with getting started in roleplay and have a great first experience!
