    CITIZEN’S OATH OF LOYALTY

  2. The Teutonic Order.

    What made them so successful?

I'd have to say an ability to adapt quickly to changing political conditions as needed, a strong core of members, a focus on resource collection, and a very, very real OOC devotion (Whether or not this is healthy overall is up to debate).

What did they do that made them so infamous?

A variety of things. In Aegis? Waging war against just about everything. Asulon? Emperor's "elite" and agents, as well as controlling a huge, autonomous realm in Oren--Hanseti. Everything from scientific experimentation to trying to create a world-destroying device. Anthos? Defending itself in the Orenian Civil War against the Roses and Blackmonts.

Are they still around, and if not, what made them disappear? Thanks!

TO is dead, and has been for a long, long time. Why did this happen? It's controversial. Mirtok will say something different, but I think it was because of a few factors:

    1. The antagonist--More or less, the antagonist was going to take over Greywynn, the TO's capital and only major holding in Anthos, no matter what we did. As soon as this became clear, discouragement spread amongst the ranks. I was the most impacted by it and quit. I think Mirtok was angry, too.

    2. Inner conflict--A certain leader of the TO was banned and didn't want to give leadership to anyone else, causing a rift in the TO between people loyal to someone trying to take over the TO and this banned person. I'm sure anyone who has any awareness could tell you what I mean; point is, inner conflict was an issue.

There's others that I cant think of right now, too.

  3. Do you actually know anything about the situation that set this all off?

Because Jade did EVERYTHING you're saying she should have. She left. The guy (who was just trying to bait PvP by the look of it) proceeded to attempt a noRP kill. When she got away, he got his ET friend to TP him after her. And then, after she logged out, he had the gall to BR her.

And then, when Menarra so much as suggests that avoiding using a word in RP which you know upsets the person in question and has a whole dictionary of alternatives might just be the decent thing to do, this thread pops up.

I know a good deal about it.

It's not a no-RP kill if you're walking away in MC.

I think this has been over multiple times.

  4.

As for your second point, sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others is a basic human skill. No one's asking you bottlefeed anyone, just don't be an ******* and use words they've asked you not to just because you can.

    Simply put:

Why should I change my roleplay simply because you don't like it?

Why can you not just walk away in character, or solve the issue -in character-?

Why should I have to consider your entirely subjective OOC feelings which I may or may not know before-hand?

Yes. You may be offended. But to me, and many others, that doesn't matter at all. It is the choice of the individual to be offended, and there is no need to censor on the basis that someone may or may not be feeling offended. If you happen to be offended, work it out by walking away IC or solving it IC. Not by trying to make others comply with your demands.

If we want to talk 'common courtesy', it's common courtesy to allow others to freely RP their characters as they wish, whether or not you're offended by it.

  5.

I'm not the one calling others dumb over opinions. I'm not the one insisting on my right to use offensive language on the grounds that the opinions that make me mad enough to call a person I don't know dumb don't actually matter.

In fact, what I'm doing is arguing on behalf of people who are affected by a lack of courtesy they shouldn't have to deal with, not even in trying to get people to understand the error of their ways.

The argument that people take RP too seriously is too often used as a fallback to state that a person feels inherently superior due to their aloof attitude and ability to attack others without feeling anything. I'll admit I don't understand it, so I won't attack it, just state that I really don't understand why the argument is ever considered valid.

Whatever baggage you have that causes you to act this way, I hope you overcome it and live a happy, fulfilling life.

Firstly: That's a completely passive aggressive and rude final line you wrote that puts you about as low as the person you're referring to, whom called you stupid. Implying that he has some kind of 'baggage' and you want him to live a 'happy, fulfilling life' has got to be passive-aggressiveness at its highest point.

    Secondly:

Simply put, a large portion of the community does not see being offended as justification to stop an action they are doing. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should have the right to stop them, or others should have the obligation, to accommodate you. This is because we see being offended as a personal problem that has nothing to do with us; we do not expect to be coddled and do not desire to coddle others, either.

If you do not like RPing with someone, then you need to resolve the issue in-character or find a way to walk away in-character as soon as possible.

  6. I don't think the fact that you're offended should matter or even come into account for anything, ever. In fact, no one should have to care that you're offended. That's your problem, not theirs.

"Being offended" is entirely subjective and brings literally no harm to you.

When I'm offended by something, I just say "Wow. I didn't like that." and proceed to go away and not interact with what it is that offended me again.

Solve your problems in RP, and if you're being offended you can say something in OOC. You should NEVER use "I'm offended" as an excuse to just walk away from RP. Grow the skin thickness to at least wrap things up IC.

I never, never, never understood why "BEING OFFENDED" is so absolutely horrible. It's almost like it's so bad that we need to avoid it at all costs. It's... Really not that terrible. It's, uh, a few hours of feeling bad at the most, then you move on with your life.

  7. lol what's even the problem if you're offended

if you're offended, this is what happens:

    "wow I didn't like that"

you then proceed to step away from whatever is offending you, feel butthurt for some indeterminate amount of time, and then you're absolutely fine without any longterm damage to your person a few days later.

  8. Human beings are fickle creatures prone to bouts of ignorance and rage while simultaneously expressing exemplary ideals and preaching tolerance. What causes one staff member to react one way will cause another to act completely different depending on uncontrollable and unpredictable factors such as their temperament, friendship to the defendant, or whether or not they're wearing fishnets.

Therefore I believe it is in the best interests of everyone within the server that we immediately liquidize any interference of the staff team on ban reports and replace them with the unbiased and truly justicial characteristics expressed by Gerald the Gerbil.

So, to summarize, we shouldn't even try to correct problems or thinktank better ideas because people are going to be biased no matter what?

People can control their temperment. Consider the philosophy of stoicism. This is not an 'uncontrollable' factor; mature people should be able to hold a conversation and be semi-rational, even when emotionally bothered.

Staff, in a similar way, should recognize conflicts of interest and not be involved in cases with their friends. This is not an uncontrollable factor.

  9. Being offended is scary. I, for one, have a panic attack whenever someone uses bad words near me, or dares speak the name of a common mental disorder. thusly i fully support these Speechrules to keep us all safe and non-offended.

what should happen in regards to bans:

Objective rules should be set with penalties for the breaking of these rules. It's really not that hard. I think the staff just enjoy some matter of arbitrage.

Why is it so hard to say that "X rule deserves Y punishment for Z amount of time?" A real-life judicial system is much more complex. Just because "Oh, every case is different!" doesn't mean you can't assign objective standards and punishments.

If someone breaks a certain rule, they should be banned for a certain amount of time as long as they are found guilty of it. Allowing for bans to be completely up to the discretion of staff is asking for bias.

  10. A letter, composed in a similar style, shortly arrives after the sender has their response.

"Your words do make things more clear in some manners, but in others they merely restate what I already know. Is there perhaps a time where I could have a talk with one of the Church in person? Face to face speech often allows more to be said than by mere written talk.

    - Fredrik"

  11. A letter, one day, finds its way into the hands of the Holy Church. Perhaps it may start at a low level, sent in and lost in paperwork and passed up the ranks. One way or another, however, this envelope containing calligraphic, tasteful (Almost flowery) handwriting would find its way to people of importance in the Church, people who might actually be in a position to respond, whether they be a Deacon, Priest, or perhaps the head of the Church himself.

    "I am greatly confused.

I have come from far away places, and find myself in this land now. I have read some of the publications of the Faith and considered the writings of the Church, but I do not understand many of them; I have questions. Reading theology and the excellent thesis of Deacon Jude are one thing, but considering and applying these works to my life are another.

Besides this, the Church, in my mind, is hazy. Doctrine and practice in the past has remained unclear; my parents told me that the Church had little impact in their lives, as they felt as though it was far too politically motivated in its words. I wish to see if there is any merit in this assertion, and if not, why is this perception present? Indeed, what services are held by the faith to the people? Not only this, but we have seen heresy being levied upon the Canon as of late. How does the Church respond to these arguments, and why are they so grossly wrong? Is there any truth in their words?

I have a great many questions about the Church, its doctrine and how it has changed over time, and my own life. I thusly wish, if a Priest or other official in the Church could find the time, to have a discussion on these topics.

I hope for a response to my letter, so that we may speak soon.

    - Fredrik."

  13. Jonathan Black stands before the Northgate, watching as the North stretches forth, taking its tendrils of corruption and wrapping them around the Gate. Lava pours from crevices in the ice, and the light in the building is snuffed out.

It was over; the North was coming to take Greywynn. His Emperor, Horen V, was gone. Godfrey was gone too. Uthor, his uncle and friend, had left. His wife had left him. There was truly not much else to live for, at least for him; he had a decent enough run, but it was time to end this. He couldn't stop the North, but he could get the last laugh. They would not get his castle; they would lord over rubble and ash. It was time to end it.

He takes a torch, walking into Greywynn, going into the highest room - His own room. He takes a deep breath and runs the torch along the wooden floor. Before long, a fierce fire spikes up, The supports holding up Greywynn catch aflame, and before long the entire Castle collapses in on itself.

Jonathan Black stands, smiling as the roof caves in on him.

    Yep, that's it. Bye.

  14. Hunh. I have a Skype pic from TO chat recently that had something to do with mog threatening to take the human moderators and scamper off due to some community poll result, but I never figured out what it was in specific.

    Maybe pvp default?

This is not true, and Mog IN FACT said he had no idea what was going on with that.

The truth of the matter is this:

The White Rose are tired of being literally despised OOCly and quit. The staff who quit are tired of the way the staff are internally run. Oren as a whole is utterly furious that other races got iron and gold while we were given -clay-.

I don't know what you expected when you screw over one race that badly. But it was one of the straws that broke the camel's back.

Leave the situation to rest, the server is not going to explode - but I can confidently say that there is stuff that needs to be changed.

  15. I wish I had one in the first place.

The reason it is relevent, Ben, is because Soda was arguing that the Dwarves' superior mining skill gave them the right to the iron mine, which I agreed with, but then asked about why do the Kha have an iron mine, then?

Also: I still have my chests of iron armor; all of it was obtained in the Hansetian-Flay war and from the period at the beginning of the map where iron was easy to get.

    And at Jex...

I already stated where we got our iron from. Wars and the iron at the beginning of the map.

Rest assured, I still have my stockpiles, but I don't like a monopoly.

I have other kinds of RP other than 'stomping around and intimidating others' and 'roflstomping people'. The TO is not known for this kind of thing. Your accusations would have impact if they were relevant. Because you know how many times the TO has raided anyone during this war?

    0.

How many times have we raided the Elves lately? 0. How many times did we help them? Plenty, we even fought with them against rebels going after Darkhaven.

So, no. Take a look at the facts before you accuse me of being a big meanypants bully, lumping me into some kind of 'Oren' overreaching group.

Tl;dr I didn't get my iron from public mines and me and my men (TO) are not a hyperaggressive group at all.
