  1. Hey guys, I want to make an Orc character but I have two problems. The first is that I cant think of a good name, and the second is I dont really know how to talk like one, and Im afraid Ill sound stupid, so if people could give me some help on the names and also direct me to a guide on Orc speech or explain to me the basics, Id sure appreciate it.

  2. I really don't like this idea :/ Who really has a specific job in RP that they stick to? I think almost everyone does what they want and its fun that way. Another thing, many people have multiple characters, and that would mean multiple professions, which would just be such a pain to handle. This kind of reminds me of that one Aesop's fable about the fox with the grapes who tries to get more, but ends up losing everything. Just leave the system be.

    History:

Long ago, there was a High Elf by the name of Erenil Galendor. He traveled the realm in search of a place to settle down and seek his fortune. He finally found the ancient city of Ascnar, and there he took on many small odd jobs to make his living in the world. After a few years, he became apprenticed to a banker, who taught him the way of wealth and how to handle one's minas. When the old banker died, Erenil inherited the business, as the banker had no sons. Erenil found he had a knack for making money, and he quite enjoyed his life, but he soon felt that something was missing. One day, while Erendil was traveling with a caravan to trade with the Dwarves of the East for gold and other precious metals, he met a beautiful High Elf named Dyana. Erenil now realized the thing that he had been missing was love, and someone to share his life with. Erenil left his old life and Ascnar to live with Dyana. They were married in the small town of Galbir and had three sons; Ardor, Malitar, and Emcil. Near the end of his life, Erenil became the Lord of Galbir and established a manor there. When Erenil died at the age of 728, he named his heir to be his eldest son, Ardor.

Now Ardor was the best loved by his father, but not by his brothers. Malitar and Emcil despised Ardor because while they spent their days seeing that Galbir was run smoothly, Ardor composed music and tried to attract the affections of the High Elven womenfolk. Malitar and Emcil deemed their brother unfit to rule and so devised a plot to remove him. While this was happening, Ardor had his eyes set on a beautiful woman named Cassandra, the daughter of a noble house of humans. Their relationship was a secret, of course, because it was forbidden for a Mali'Aheral to have relations with any other race. Malitar had read the letters sent between the two and swore to make the news public unless Ardor stepped down. Ardor refused, and Malitar did as he promised. Ardor was shamed and banished from Galbir into the wilderness, where he was later felled by the blade of Cassandra's husband at the age of 312. Thus ended the reign of Ardor and began that of Malitar, the second eldest of Erenil's sons.

Malitar was the wisest of his brothers and vowed he would not make the same mistakes Ardor did in his rule. The rule of Malitar was harsh but prosperous, bringing Galbir into an age of wealth and military superiority. Malitar never felt secure in his position, however, and after dealing with Ardor, never trusted Emcil. Malitar married and bore one son, Astax, before he went mad out of paranoia and threw himself off of the walltop at the age of 480. Thus ended the reign of Malitar.

When Malitar died, Astax was the heir to the throne. Astax was only 16, however, and Emcil acted as regent until the boy reached the age of 40, when he could begin his rule. Emcil, the youngest of Erenil's sons was also the most warlike, and expanded the territory of Galbir immensely through a campaign called 'The Wars of the Serpent'. This new land was renamed Almar, after the name of Emcil's favorite hunting dog. When Astax turned 40, Emcil stepped down and Astax rose to power. Emcil lived to be 659, and died peacefully in Almar. Thus ended the reign of Emcil, Erenil's final son.

Astax was the sole male survivor of Erenil's line, and so felt safe in his position. Because of this, he behaved similarly to Ardor, and had seven legitimate children as well as four bastard sons. Astax foolishly spent Almar's wealth on fine cloth, precious stones, and exotic women, and soon the treasury ran dry. Famine and poverty spread across the land, much of the territory was retaken, and peasant revolts broke out. The most famous revolt was led by a stone mason named Helmir, who led a militia of 40 High Elves against the noble family of Galendor. The rebels ransacked the manor and killed Astax, his two wives, three of his bastard sons, and two of his legitimate children. Astax died at only the age of 131. The eldest of his legitimate living sons was named Sultar, who was shrewd and confident, as well as one of the most feared archer's in the realm. Sultar apprehended and executed Helmir and his men, and at the age of 114, became the Lord of Almar.

    Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is:Roleplaying is the act of creating a fictional character and acting as that character would act in thought, word, and deed.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is:Meta-gaming is when a player uses information obtained out of the roleplay atmosphere to affect his character's actions, when the character would not normally have known the information.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is:Power-emoting, or power-gaming, is when a player decides the actions of another player's character without giving the other character or player time to react (i.e. "John punches Bill, Bill runs away" in this example, John not only controls his own actions, but also Bill's, even though Bill did not choose to run away).

    In-Character Details

    Character Name:Roland Oakbottom

    Character Race:Human (Northerner)

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary:

Roland Oakbottom was born in Arethor to his father, a wealthy cloth merchant, and his mother, a kind and selfless woman. He was the oldest of four children, having two brothers and one sister. Roland was a very handsome boy, and had short brown hair and dark brown eyes. His father was often out of the city on business and his mother had her hands full taking care of the younger children, so Roland had much of the time to himself. He used this time to satisfy his various hobbies, which included swordplay, literature, and spending a night out in the town with his friends. He always dreamed of being a traveling minstrel, but his father would hear none of it, calling it 'a fool's occupation'. So, when Roland was 19, he left his family in pursuit of his dreams, with nothing but his blue and red tunic, some Minas for his expenses, his boyish charm, and his devilish wit.

Roland is a very carefree soul, and doesn't often busy himself in the day to day acts of others. This isn't to say he is socially awkward or secluded, he is very outgoing, he just doesn't care for much of anything that does not concern him and because of this, he makes jokes out of very serious situations. This also leads to arrogance and Roland getting into bad situations. he is a fun character to have around but can either be hated or loved very quickly.

What are your characters ambitions?:To become a famous bard, and to travel the world making a name for himself.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character:Not particularly.

    Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?

Roland is filled with a sense of relief as he enters the gates to the place of his birth. He is excited to see his family again and to visit his friends, although he is worried as to what his father will say to him after Roland ran away. On turning a corner near the entrance to the city, he sees a poor old dwarf selling various wares to the passers-by but to no avail. Roland considers buying something from the old dwarf, but decides not to on account that some other traveler will. With that decision made, he continues down the street to his old home.

You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?

Roland walks down the Oren Road late at night, looking for a place to stay until morning, when he sees a big Orc harassing a dwarf under a tree. Roland, being the noble hero that he is, marches up behind the Orc and shouts "Over here fatty!". The Orc turns his attention from the dwarf and begins to advance on Roland. "My oh my, you're an ugly one. I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm in a bit of a hurry, so can we catch up later?" says Roland as he turned and sprints down the road with the enraged Orc hot on his trail. Once Roland sees the dwarf dash off into the safety of the bushes, he turns to face the brute. The Orc unsheathes a large war hammer and begins to swing at Roland. Roland does a quick sidestep and jabs the Orc in the thigh with his rapier. At this the Orc is furious and grabs hold of Roland in both meaty hands. After taking a savage beating from the brick like headbutts of the Orc, Roland spits in his eyes, and escapes his grasp. While the Orc is kneeling down trying to rub the mucus out of his eyes, Roland picks up a rock and knocks the beast out cold.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:

Roland is walking down the road to Malinor when he spots a frail old man with a knobbly walking stick. Just as Roland is about to ask the man if he needs help, the stick snaps in half and the old man falls to the ground, spilling a large bag of Minas onto the ground. Almost instinctively, Roland grabs the bag, hits the old man in the back of the head with one of the stick halves, and bolts off down the road. Roland feels terrible guilt about what he has just done until he reaches Malinor and spends almost all of the money on good food, drink, and women, and he forgets all about the incident on the road.
