Ryv lumbers slowly up the path leading into Karovia, his boots crunching loudly on the gravel. Tired from a days labour he passes the different tradesmen and peasants, giving a dismissive, husky grunt to any who might try communicating with him. As he reaches the tavern he enters and slams his fist on the counter to gain the Bartenders attention.

So it has been around a week since the removal of status updates now. My initial response to the change was that I expected the removal would be a good break from all the negativity that is often seen in the status updates.
To a large extent it has been refreshing to check the forums without having to read through any passive aggressiveness, raging and immaturity that was often displayed there. On top of that I think it has also been an effective way for the staff to update the player base about smaller updates that don’t warrant a whole forum post, e.g. Patch notes, important threads to view, etc. Where previously those updates would be replaced by the newer ones and would often be missed.
However I also feel that many beneficial aspects have been lost with the change. They often were a spot where people could have a laugh, advertise things, ask questions or even just share what was join on. Without them the forums do seem to have lost a bit of their lustre and there is less appeal to come on here as often.
Overall I get the idea that the statuses brought the community together more than it caused it to splinter and it would be nice to see them return after the trail is over.1 -

Origins of your birth: I was born of two Mali’aheral, both of which upheld the utmost purity.
How long have you resided with the blessed Mali’aheral? I have not dwelt within the walls of the Silver City before now, but in this new land dwelling among my brothers and sisters seem the most logical step to take.
Why do you wish to become a citizen of our cihi?
I wish to live beside my Mali’aheral kin and to be apart of our nation through its times of prosperity and, should it come to it, to help during times of dissension and strife.
How can you declare you are Mali'thill?
It is clear by my physical appearance that I am of pure blood, my white hair, blue eyes and long ears are a testament to this fact. It is also evident that I am pure of mind, my thoughts and actions never betraying the worthy goal of striving for knowledge and the progress of our blessed race.
What does maehr'sae hiylun'ehya mean to you?
The pursuit of Wisdom and Health. There are no values greater than aspiring towards rigorously training ones mind with the likes of knowledge, arts and science, as well as perfectly maintaining ones purity with utmost vigour.
What is your personal vision for our blessed race?
My desire is to see the Mali’aheral grow in their knowledge of all things, not for the acknowledgement from the lesser races, for their respect is of no value to us, but that knowledge is the power that lasts through time.

Teolas was in Ambris when he heard the news of his lords death. He stared in disbelief at the town around him and all the work they had put into it, all that they had planned to accomplish that would never come to light for Adarian. It was all over so quick, it only seemed like a few elven days ago that he had joined House Colin. Now three people he would have called his family lay dead, there as nothing left but misery in this town.
He bows his head and says a final goodbye under his breath.
“Farewell my lord, it was an honour to serve under you. May you have peace in the Creator’s care and I will see you once again when my time is called”
He salutes toward the keep one last time then walks off, leaving his home behind him.

Perhaps this will work, perhaps it won't. Either way we need to give it a chance and if it completely fails then id imagine we would move to rules that will work out better.
We can never improve if we never change, even if changing does involve some complete flops. However it is destined to fail if we never give it a trial and decide here that it sucks.

Nothing is stopping me from playing a Dwarf other than the fact that I have two other characters that take up my time. I don't know too much about their culture or how to do their accent but that wouldn't be hard to learn.
If I ever decide to make another character someday I will definantly consider a Dwarf.

Once I got over the initial bit of confusion I really liked this update despite what everyone else seems to think. It has a few bugs but overall I think its a really a good job.

This may be an obvious question but I'm still fairly new with LoTC so please bear with me. Im thinking of changing tack with my character from a cliché fighter guy to more of a researcher of animals (or something else I'm not entirely sure yet). My question is does one have to go through the forums to create all lore? or are we able to create small lore up as we roleplay? im not talking about making new OP creatures but like, i dunno, a new breed of fox to find or something.

Give us a brief description of their life - their story, childhood, family: -
Elrohir was born in the city of Leumalin, the son of a merchant called Amrod Amandil and his wife Elbereth. Elrohir was taught the trade of being a merchant from a young age but he never aspired to become like his father, finding the work boring and uneventful. He always looked up to the guards, their jobs looked like the most exciting work possible to the eyes of the young Elf. His father told him he could never become a guard though as he was too scrawny of a child to be able to handle a sword properly. Whenever he had the opportunity he would practise shooting with the cheap bow he had saved up for.
When he was 65 he applied to join a border patrol team. He was accepted into the team as a tracker and for a year learned all the basics of tracking he could before he got field experience. After the year was over he left his parents and was placed up on the northern border. The teams job was to protect the nation from intruders such and Bohra and monsters. Elrohir was to track down intruders but stay out of combat. After a year of doing this he began to get bored with the work and decided that if he couldn’t find a job that was thrilling enough then he would just live as he wanted where he could find some excitement. He decided then to desert the patrol team and head east away from his home Malinor, deciding to become a hunter for a living for a while using the skills he had learned.
What are they like (personality)?: - He is arrogant and over confident in his skills. He is still very childlike in many ways such as he thinks his way is the correct way and wont accept rebuke, he just does as he pleases regardless of the cost to others. He is willing to put in effort if he can see that the end product will reward him but otherwise he is fairly lazy.
What are their ambitions?: - His current ambitions are to find an occupation that is rewarding and exciting.
Do they have any special skills?: - He has experience with using a bow and has trained to have good tracking skills.
What are their weaknesses?: - He has very little experience of actual fighting, especially close combat. His arrogance will likely lead to trouble if he is not careful.
What do they look like?: - LIke any other Dark Elf he has dusky coloured skin. His hair is mid length, messy and dark brown. He still wears the blue uniform of the border patrol team he was on. He is slimly built and tall.
Anything else you want to say about them?: - For a while it would be unwise to return to populated places in Malinor as he may be recognised by somebody as a deserter.

Elrohir Grew up in a tiny, not very well known farming village in the very north of Malinor. His father’s name is Amrod Amandil and his mothers is Elbereth Amandil. Elrohir is an only child.
Elrohir was always a quiet youth, preferring to spend his time alone reading or practising with archery rather than spending time with other Elves. Due to this he was smart for his age and grew into a great tracker and hunter but he was a slim build and lacked experience in sword fighting and farming. Because of this he was ignored by most of the village.
When he was 42 he went out to hunt for two weeks. He came home from hunting only to find the village burning. His skills in tracking told him it had been a Bohra raid. Many bodies littered the ground, including his fathers. The tracks also showed that some Elves were taken alive, his mother likely one of them. He followed that tracks for a few kilometres but lost them as they were days ahead of him. For 20 years he searched the northern wilderness looking for signs of Elbereth but to no avail. From then he has worked as a hunter in the East, never staying in one place for long, making money to survive and honing his skills in order to one day search again for the Bohra responsible for the tragedy.
What are they like (personality)?: - Elrohir is a quiet and solitary person mostly but has a hot temper when Bohra are involved.
What are their ambitions?: - to train so that he can exact revenge upon the tribe of Bohra who killed his father and to find his mother.
Do they have any special skills?: - He is handy with a bow and with tracking wild animals.
What are their weaknesses?: - He is driven with revenge and will look to solve a problem by himself without looking for help from others.
What do they look like?: - He has dark skin like any other Dark elf with dark brown hair and is slimly built.
Anything else you want to say about them?: - he can never look to Malinor as home again as it only brings back horrible memories so that is why he stays with the humans in the east.
