‘Robert Mallister trudges through the tundra of Seigrad, he bears the uniform of the Golden Crow’     -10th, Great Harvest, 1500 -

    Early History

Mallister is not considered an old house, formed around twenty years before the great relocation to Vailor, after a marriage between two minor houses, a new name was chosen to replace that of the names before. The Mallisters gained their strength through cultural and political ties with fellow northern clans and houses, as they preferred to befriend everyone they could. This started when the three brothers, Robert Mallister, Elric Mallister and Sarus Mallister joined the Golden Crow to be trained in the art of war. Through the years of training and small skirmishes, the two made their way up the ranks, until through further complications Robert and Sarus Mallister were made Hussars of the Crow, knights of the north in old traditions.

The Mallisters gained strong comradeship with their Crow brothers over the years, having spent many cold winters and summers together, they had gained a great respect for one another. They had been on countless military campaigns alongside one another, whether it be the evils of the North, or the political intrigue of the south, all troubles and pain were shared, and this created an almost unbreakable bond.

    Conflicts

Although a young house, the family is no stranger to war, having led Mallister levy side by side with the Golden Crow in many incursions throughout the years, including the annihilation of the Storm Swords. The Mallisters stood side by side with remaining loyal Crows in the Last battle of the Dukes War, and was the ending point for the war itself. Here the Orenian army took to the offensive, attacking the Mallister keep. The outnumbered Mallister levy stood side by side with their Golden Crow brothers, and almost all perished in battle, this left only the young Mallisters alive who had fled many nights before, they fled south, were they may not be recognized and be spared from the blade.

Even though the Mallisters joined the rebels side in the Dukes War, House Mallister held little to no grudges against any lawful Orenian house, being of Orenian heritage themselves, they simply took up arms at the call of  their liege lord as any good and loyal house would do.

‘Sarus Mallister finally succumbs to his injuries amongst his remaining levy in the last battle of the ‘Dukes War’ - 1521

After the Dukes war the Family was torn apart, having only gained their titles within the war itself, their nobility was only recognized by the rebellion, meaning after the war the house was to be cast into exile. Many Mallisters still remained, having left the northern region just before the start of the war. Thus after many years, the Mallisters have returned to the Eastern reaches of Oren, in search for a new Lord to serve and land to flourish on. They hold no grudges on their former enemies, only the hope that Oren will continue as a unified and unstoppable force against all that may stand against it.

    Family Culture

The Mallisters originally considered themselves Heartlanders, but when Sarus and Robert Mallister made their way north in duty of the Golden Crow, they decided to bear Northern wives and live the Highlander culture instead. They do not fall under any particular subculture in the north, however one tradition within the Mallister family that may be considered strange within other families and cultures, is the act of cutting the hand whenever sealing an act of loyalty or swearing an oath to any person of nobility. This is not done in the backing of pagan belief’s, but is a reserved family tradition, showing an act of loyalty through the drawing of their own blood.

Because of this mix of Heartlander and highlander cultures, the Mallisters consider themselves descendants of the Raev and Hansetians. Although some members trace their heritage half and half, with both highlander and Heartlander culture traits.

The Mallisters have always had a long allegiance to the creator and continue to do so, in the long winter nights, the Mallisters would see comfort in their religion and look to the creator for moral in hard times.

Sarus Mallisters Bear Skin: The famed cloak itself was awarded through the killing of a bear with nothing but a sword, this age old Golden Crow tradition claimed the lives of many young soldiers. The cloak is also valued through its use in countless military incursions, all of which the wearer escaped unharmed. Some within the family believe the cloak holds a form of good fortune, as the last wearer, Sarus himself only died after leaving the cloak behind.

Roberts Fork: The mighty Mallister fork is said to have been used by Robert Mallister after he was unexpectedly ambushed by a northern bear... Having only with him the mighty fork himself, he took to the offensive, jabbing the bear in the eye. Robert won the battle but later died of his wounds.

The Barony of Riverhold: Previously named 'Drieden Castle', the Barony of Riverhold is seat of House Mallister. The Barony itself is located just south of Summerhall, it controls the river separating much of Lorraine from the west, and is part of the County of d'Amaury; its main export is under review.

A thick fog arose all around... Sarus looked upon the snowy plains that loomed around the Mallister keep, patiently waiting for his brothers to arrive. Through the countless years this war had taken up, Sarus had gained peace, for he knew that he would never see the end of it, only through the release of death would he be returned to his family and brothers that had fallen before him. Sarus knew as much as the men he waited for, that he and his brothers would be dead by the end of the week, but this did not bother him, he could surrender, subdue to the crown and have his own life spared, but he would never forgive himself for giving up on the country he loved so much, and the people he lived to protect.

The Golden Crow had finally arrived, Sarus stood at the gate to greet his brothers, he saw no fear in their eyes, only the peace in their hearts that he too contained. Many of his brothers had not made it to his home, and the once mighty force of crows had been dwindled down to a small party of rugged, tired men... In the small hall, he looked over the last of his brothers, men he had known of twenty years almost, every man in the room had become a dear friend of his, and every one of them was destined to die in these very walls.

Night had fallen, and only a few men stood guard at the gates... the Mallisters and crows lay asleep in their straw beds preparing for what was to come... The bell began ringing, and shouting had erupted throughout the castle, one of the men had spotted what looked to be cavalry approaching the keep, as Sarus came from his chamber the men arose and stood in the hall all around as he entered.

"Men... Brothers. The time has come, and our enemy is here, the actions you take in these final hours may never be sung by bards, may never be written in history, for that glory goes to the victor... and as you can see i don't think that will be us...."

A few of the men laugh, others simply stand silently...

"But when i see what we are fighting for, when i see what is at stake, i don't care... For i would rather die than have our lands taken from beneath our feet. This is our time... So let us fight for all those who have died, and let us fight for the land we hold so dear to us, For the crow! For the north!"

A great thunder of northern voices erupted from the hall, cheers and shouting could be heard from a mile away, the north men said their goodbyes and awaited for what was to come... Unexpectedly, the gates of the keep had been opened, hordes of cavalry swept into the keep, the sounds of a slaughter could be heard coming from outside... Sarus grabbed his sword, raising it into the air, others doing the same...

The men charged through the doors of the keep and out onto the courtyard, every man charged without a second thought, and every man died...

Sarus had been defeated, he fell to his knees, all around him carnage had taken hold, but as sarus looked up at the sky, he let out a smile, and a sigh of relief as a passing horseman ended his journey at last.

  3. Upon hearing the news, Sarus lets out a long sigh, he looks up to the heavens, hoping his ancestors look down on him. "Get ready for my arrival comrades."  He sharpens his sword, looking over his fellow crow brethren, the men he had spent half his life with look back at him, a look of acceptance cover their faces, not acceptance of defeat, but of death.

  4. Percival would quiver as he hears word of this.

"Truly, we can never defeat the coalition, it's might so evident, with its fine and skilled warriors such as yourself, doing the valiant work of the Creator."

Percival would proceed to flail his arms, running around the streets of Felsen in terror. "Who can stop the mighty Mallisters? How will we ever defeat them?"

You try to mock me when you and your family mate with elves and inbreed, you scum will meet your end. You indeed should be scared, you and your family will be purged and i will take great pleasure in plunging my sword into your treacherous heart.

  5. Sarus laughs at the empty threats from the Stauntons "It seems the last three times you have had a chance to fight, you have hidden in the keeps of your scum brethren, shivering in your boots, praying for the coalition to leave, only to come out and be beaten in open combat almost every single time. Make your empty threats Stauntons, for i will enjoy meeting you face to face...

  6. A letter is sent to house Staunton, the Golden Crow, and Adria, the seal bearing the mark of house Mallister.

I Sarus of house Mallister hereby denounce and end all relation, marriage and union between House Mallister and House Staunton.
The cowardly tactics and methods of house Staunton are a disgrace to humanity, i never accepted, nor did i recognize the marriage of Robert Mallister with a Staunton, and will continue to do so. They hold personal gain over their own reputation, making backhanded deals with their Lord's enemy to gain a mere strip of barren soil. These cheap and pity full folk will no longer have any relation to my house...

Glory to Adria, Glory to the north.
