What magic/s did you learn?: Abjuration and warding

Who/how did you learn magic/s?: Gallidron has spent most of his life, over a century, studying and reading all kinds of knowledge. However, the kind of learning that fascinated him the most is the arcane. He has learned about magic of all kinds, and possesses a working knowledge of magical theory. He has even written 2 books on the subject of magic, and a 3rd on the subject of abjuration itself. After years of being patient and hoping a mage would take him on as apprentice he grew tired of waiting and began to try to learn practical application himself. He spent many months and then years meditating, trying to form a connection to the void and at last has found fruit. Given his intricate knowledge of so many magics He thought to use his years of study to his advantage and learn to ward and abjure against the spells of others. He has, as of yet, little experience in the actual usage of magic and is excited to learn which kinds of magic he will be best at protecting against. (I know that you can't be perfect at warding against every kind and if I had to choose, I'd say evocation would be the natural choice for the moment.)

Offer an explanation of said magic/s you learned: Abjuration is a blanket term that Gallidron likes to use. Many call the whole mess warding, but to him a ward is something used merely to block and to hide. To abjure is to utterly deny and renounce, and in magic that means to cast something from existence. Spells are ideas, concepts given form. They are crafted in the void by the mind of the caster and then brought into the physical plane by their will and power. The mana anchor, the connection between the mage, the spell and the void is the center of all that. As an abjurist your job is to muck that up as thoroughly as possible. Destroy the mana anchor and the spell will fizzle and die. Gallidron understands that AN abjuration is a spell cast in the moment to disrupt the spell of another. These "bursts" of mana are like little EMP's that break the enemy mage's connection to the void. For this to work, the abjurist needs a thorough understanding of the magic they are trying to disrupt and also the power to do so. A beginner abjurist cannot stop the ice spear or fireball of a master evocationist. One must be of at least equal or greater power to stop another's spell.

A ward is like unto an abjuration in that they stop magic, but there the similarities basically end. A ward is stationary and takes time to prepare. They are used like a shield were as an abjuration is like knocking an arrow out of the sky with another arrow. The ward can be made to defend against multiple types of magic, though not all of them at the same time as the amount of power required and the intricacy of such a ward would make it impractical and nigh impossible. A ward will remain so long as the mage can sustain it. There are those who suggest that a ward could be made an left by a mage if it were powered by a soul gem, but even if this is possible the life of the ward would still be rather finite. In truth some enchantments are ward in and of themselves, but they belong to a separate classification of magic. Like with an abjuration, the power of the ward is paramount. A stronger mage than the one who cast it could blow through a ward with few problems.

I hope that this explanation is sufficient and not too wordy.

    Thanks,

    Emperor_Zufelt

    Character’s name: Gallidron Elmoran

    Character’s gender: Male

    Character’s race: High Elf

    Character’s age: 162

Biography  (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add server lore, and events that happened to your character so that they don’t contradict history.): Gallidron has spent much of His life within the walls of the Silver City. His Mother and Father have spent their lives there, as did His grandparents. They were content to do so as well, seeing nothing of interest beyond the gilded walls of the Silver City. But they were of older generations, they had lived through and fought in the wars against Laureh'lin and Oren. They were both firmly of the mindset that High Elves were better than those around them and that they had been bested by numbers alone, thus they bore a bitterness for the world. Gallidron, however, tends to look at the wide world and desire to know more of it, to know the mysteries of the past. What happened in the final days of old Malinor? What Arcane secrets of power have his people left behind? To this end, He has spent a good deal of time in the grand libraries of His people. He poured over the tomes of knowledge, both old and new for the more than a century before coming to the terrible conclusion that most knowledge seekers reach eventually. He needed more information than the libraries could give, He needed to go into field research.

This would be no mean feat as Gallidron was not exactly the outdoorsy type. After all, He had spent most of his life in the halls of the library, not mucking about in some ancient ruin. But the thought simultaneously filled him with trepidation and excitement, and He knew that other researchers had made such expeditions and come out just fine.

Gallidron is highly interested in magic, though this is not uncommon for a high elf. And He eagerly searches for any scap of sorcerous knowledge He can gain. Gallidron knows that the world outside of the walls of his people’s precious city is full of forbidden knowledge, and He will let nothing stop him in his quest for those long forgotten secrets. Knowledge, after all, is power.

So this is where we find Him. Having prepared to leave the city walls in search of knowledge, (and maybe fame!) He is ready to experience the world for himself. His parents, who were utterly against the idea, have kind of... disowned Him, thus He has no claim to his family home or wealth. But that is just fine! As He will probably be more than equipped to this uncomfortable and homeless twist of fate. He hopes...

Personality Traits: Fastidious and tends to dislike being dirty. Curious and always interested in what ever arcane lore he can get his hands on. Though he is not needlessly cruel or evil, Gallidron does not let much stand in his way, and will brush aside what he calls “Vain and foolish rules” to get what he wants.

Ambitions: To become one of the world’s greatest scholars, historians, and Mages.

Strengths/Talents: A quick intellect, excellent memory and a talent for the arcane. He is also quite perceptive.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: not gifted in feats of strength or athletics and does not possess much patience for those whom he deems less intelligent than him, which is almost everyone.

Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight): 6’3 and blonde with longer hair, like most of his people. He has a lean and handsome face, when it is not contorted in a look of disgust or long suffering. His eyes are gold and always seem bright and alert. He is slim and weighs about 150 lbs.

Appearance, please provide us a screenshot of your character’s skin (If you need help, see our screenshot guide here):
