  1. If you guys hate magic being used in combat so much why don’t you just make it illegal, rather than taking it out on the whole magic community? Not all of us are interested in playing dramatic anime characters who couldn’t even fight a child with a rock and a good throwing arm.

Would you take in people willing to partly take on a transformation I guess? like part of there body and all? As my half-dwed would be willing for that. ((I don’t mean to try and learn how to create Animati or anything like that though. If offered yes but not pushing toward that. I more so want to find a more interesting group to hang with at times))

Unfortunately, this wouldn’t really fit with what we’re doing. Sorry.

  3. Interested in playing an Atronach or Animati character? A new group is developing and we’re looking for competent roleplayers to fill these roles. We’d like to offer a lot of freedom for these characters to develop in whichever direction the player would like, within a few limitations.
If you’re interested or have questions, hit me up on discord at: neopsychedelia#0313

  4. I wish I had more to add to this discussion. I've never been around to attend a sept prince event and now I'm glad.
I don't understand how aesop could've thought "Arzota dies, instantly" was an acceptable emote or cause for a mandatory pk (which I'm certain has no basis in the rules).

I think my understanding of pvp culture and community is at a sufficient level to make such a statement. I have been in pvp intensive groups for the majority of my tenure on lotc and have played through many incarnations of such rules. Thus the cap is what I believe is the primary issue. If you disagree then I'd be happy to listen to your thoughts on the matter. As for changing raid culture, that is a matter of us cracking down but we do still need players to report offenders to us otherwise we cannot do anything.

The pvp community (or the part of that community) at fault for toxicity, trolling and malicious roleplay has had an undeniable history of this behavior within and without actual raids. This happens with your typical bandits all the time, for example. This isn't some growing resentment toward the rules how they are, and even if it was, that kind of behavior would still be in no way appropriate. What you're proposing is not a solution to toxicity; you're offering a dangerous degree of power to a community that already does its' best to skirt the line of acceptability, in an apparent attempt to appease these players who've shown no precedence toward wanting to better themselves or their behaviors. These rules have been built up for a reason and like I've said, this collective behavior needs to change before something like this rewrite can even be considered.

Wars are built upon raids and capped raids are in my eyes the root upon which current raid toxicity and memery can be drawn from.

If you really believe that pvp-related toxicity and 'memery' has anything to do with the cap on raids then you must misunderstand this community on a fundamental level.

  8. 22 minutes ago, Narthok said:

If you have a problem with memey rp bandits and raiders then report them and they'll be dealt with. This endless complaining about pvpers is just as irritatingly opaque as pvpers making fun of elves for being erpers.

It's difficult to build a case against people whose characters are motivated from an ill-intentioned OOC place. This combined with how lenient (or aloof) staff have been in regards to this behavior in the past means that a lot of people, including myself would rather not have to deal with the burden of presenting these issues. Frankly, it should be the place of the moderators to take initiative in these situations where they're able, and leave the example that they actually do care about having these problems resolved. Until then, I think it's entirely inappropriate to suggest these cumulative changes in the community's current overall social climate.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Automatons are delicate constructs of fine arts, both clockwork and alchemical in nature. Upon a skeleton frame lies a complex system of tubes and vessels, routed throughout the body and a fragile heart of gears. Alchemical agents are flooded throughout the body in these vessels, providing an essential lifeblood for the machine to function. Were these veins to be severed and these fluids lost, it would cease to function; in essence, dying. These agents do not clot like blood and therefore leaks should not be left unattended.

With joints, legs, arms and fingers built of gears and cogs, the machine can ambulate. That is, provided a descendent soul has chosen to occupy it. Such is often coaxed by a touch of blood from the body of that soul’s last host. In that way, soul-bearing creatures who lack blood are unable to become like these ensouled automatons; Machine Spirits. One such machine unmodified to accept a soul is known simply as Animii.

The machine cannot surpass that its' natural limits in strength for long, lest it go into an ‘overclock’ state in which the heart is overworked, and often sustains damage as a result. Such damage can go as far as destroy the machine.

If the soul were to be that of a mage, as is feasible, the machinery would wither as any natural body would, interestingly. This means more maintenance, to ensure the prosthetic does not fail.

These machines are fairly vulnerable to blunt damage of all sorts, given that their frames are often made of easily broken or dented materials.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Transfiguration

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s):

Transfiguration is a school of magic encompassing the implementation of one’s own will upon pre-existing worldly elements. This takes the form of three distinct branches; Transmutation, Enchantment, and Warding.

Transmutation is the ability to directly shape tangible elements. Provided an individual understands said element profoundly, they could feasibly alter the very shape and structure down to the most primal level. With this, nothing is gained, lost, created or destroyed. It goes without saying that one element cannot be made into another without undergoing the same natural processes through which it would otherwise form. One must have an understanding of Transmutation to begin imposing Enchantments upon objects.

Enchantment is the ability to bind an object to a source of Mana while preserving the imprint of a spell uncast; the spell must of course be Voidal in nature. The object is used as a focal point for the spell to act from or upon. Gemstones are well-known for being effective vessels for Mana, due to their unusual structure. Although the flow cannot be reversed or reabsorbed by the user, one could fill a gem with their own Mana to fuel the imprint of a spell. To do this, one would need an understanding of what’s imprinted upon the enchanted object. Alternatively, one could thread their very own pool of Mana unto an Enchantment, which would therefore draw directly from the source.

Wards and Abjurations are the use of one’s own Mana as a method for disrupting or cancelling the flow of Mana within a Voidal spell. Provided an individual understands the nature of the spell they wish to disrupt, they could form a net of their own Mana to overwhelm passing spells, effectively building a shield of static. However, this shield is wholly incapable of stopping projectiles mundane or non-Voidal in nature. Even with that, Voidal spells cannot be destroyed entirely; only weakened. Abjuration, on the other hand, is a more proactive and effective approach to disrupting a spell. Giving one’s Mana the distinct purpose of overwhelming a particular spell allows them to produce a cloud of static, which is capable of dissolving said spell entirely, depending on the power of both the Abjuration and the spell in question.

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

Claire leaned upon the dull hatchet, its’ head planted idly in the grass beside her feet. “To enact change through the void, you must first be able to conceive it; not as parts, but as a whole. This much you already know.” She grasped the ax in both hands and most effortfully hefted it up, offering the haft to her eager apprentice.

The milquetoast young man took the old hatchet readily, despite the gathering sweat on his brow to do so much as keep it off the ground. A silent question was written on his face.

“You have to understand what you’re working with through-and-through,” Claire went on in a tone most calm, if dry and rehearsed. “The consistency, the resilience. The heat it takes to burn and the force it takes to break. There’s no more intimate understanding than that which comes with testing the limits.” She directed a hand toward the oak at her side, stately and imposing.

“I’m to cut all of that down?” The burdensome hatchet sank in his grasp as the boy gazed woefully at his adversary.

“If that’s what it takes,” Claire returned with a singular, almost apologetic bow of her head. “And in doing so, you’ll begin to know every which way timber breaks. Spend your mornings with this; burn the wood to cook your meals and warm your home. In due time, you’ll understand it well enough to chop without an ax.” She made way for the young man, once more gesturing to the towering oak.

The boy reluctantly nodded, and hiked the ax up onto his untrained shoulder.

“When there’s no more left of the tree, come to me, and our lessons will continue from there.”

  12. Narcissism is a big problem on LotC and there is a culture of bullying that is essentially rewarded. I think to say it's "full of psychopaths and sadists" is a bit of overstatement for what is essentially childish tribalism for the socially inept. That isn't to say there's no such people on LotC; I'm quite confident otherwise, actually. Ultimately, the root of the issue is and has always been with the staff who are responsible for the direction of the community at large. The fact that it's gotten as severe as it is now is very telling.

I'm uncertain how you'll handle the whole OOC element of creating and performing events, you've been known to be a bit immovable on certain things. I think if you want this position there's gonna be a few instances where you're gonna need to yield your pride for maximum participant enjoyment.

Other than that your RP is great, good luck

Although he's quite set in his politics, from the interactions I've had with him I've found him to be very reasonable otherwise. I don't actually think he'd be all that difficult to work with an on OOC level.

Why do you want to join the GM Team?: I’m eager to take on the responsibilities of moderation and offer my input. I feel confident in my abilities to identify the flaws in LotC and provide solutions where they’re needed. If I were to name issues that take a forefront, they’d be matters of activity and player retention. In-game moderation comes close up behind, where I feel it may be lacking lately.

Anything else you want to tell us?:

Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I’m a more creatively inclined person. I enjoy writing, drawing, producing music and roleplaying.

I believe I’m a reasonable, level-headed person. I think it’s important to know what you’re talking about before you get into it, and I often test myself to have patience in difficult or stressful situations.

People should be good to each other. I know I’m not immune to anger. I get upset sometimes, and I say some things I shouldn’t say. I try not to, and I think I do a decent job of it. There’s always room for improvement, though.

I deal with my problems head on, but I prefer to bring conflicts level rather than stirring the pot. If someone has an issue with me, I’m more than willing to talk about it, and an apology is not too much to ask of me if I’ve done wrong.

I’ve been a member of LotC for a long time. I’ve made some ugly mistakes, and some good stories. It’s not my first roleplaying experience; I’ve participated in rp in mmos, in tabletop, and in other similar whitelist communities across other games. As a result, I have a pretty solid understanding of the realm and what makes for a positive or negative influence.

STRFKR is my favorite band, and Reptillians is a brilliant album.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Darkstalkers are much like Liches, being unliving immortal undead bound and empowered by solidified lifeforce, a phylactery. If the phylactery which binds them were destroyed, the creature’s fate would too be permanently sealed. In the short-term, Darkstalkers may be banished by the mere shattering of their skulls. They’re particularly vulnerable to holy magics, golden weaponry, blunt force, and even find discomfort in sunlight. Not only that, but they’re incapable of wielding magics aside from the manipulation of lifeforce, due to the way their souls are twisted during the ritual. This twisting of the soul is not without strengths, however. The avatar of bones by which the phylactery is bound to becomes stronger and sturdier, lacking a limit to stamina, and possessing no heed to mortal needs such as air, or food. This doesn’t mean they don’t feed. Lifeforce is the fuel that powers them, given by the charitable Necromancer, or sucked viciously from a living victim by way of an inborn gift; the necromantic touchdrain.
