Kiriath was born during the month of the Amber Cold to an expectant couple: Merrick and Lysa Evandulys. Merrick, who was an accountant, was rather uninvolved in the lives of his children and would rather leave the job to his wife. This left Lysa as the parental figure to whom Kiriath was most attached.
His older brother, Lariath, who had been born only a year prior to him, immediately saw Kiriath as a threat to the favor he had from his parents as soon as they were old enough to be competitive. This turned out to not be long, as the two siblings seemed to have it out for each other ever since Kiriath was born. Merrick and Lysa always seemed to favor Lariath anyways, who surprisingly was the more aggressive of the two. Though Merrick praised this behaviour in Lariath, who he believed would grow to be a strong warrior in the true spirit of a Highlander, Lysa was more sympathetic toward Kiriath and did not condone it. Kiriath was not as strong as Lariath, nor was he as aggressive in his defenses. However, Kiriath knew how to pick his battles.
Kiriath was not given a proper education, though he and his brother had at least been taught basic arithmetic and literacy. Through this ability to read, Kiriath had learned as much as he possibly could through any sort of texts that came his family’s way.
Kiriath was always the more charismatic of the two brothers. Though naive and a bit dense, this naivete seemed to be a strength of his as most would assume him to not be a threat to them. This charisma actually came from him closely studying the behaviours of others, taking note of what words made their hackles rise and what smoothed them over. This allowed him to sway others to his side by appealing to what they liked in a person. Unfortunately for him, Lariath tended to humiliate his brother at any chance he could take. This caused Kiriath to lose just about as many friends as he’d gained over his lifetime.
As the years went on, it had become more and more apparent that while no one thought highly of either brother, (with the exception of their mother,) Kiriath was more well known. However, as soon as his brother was introduced to anyone, Lariath immediately overshadowed him. Upset that he could never seem to hold a stable relationship of any sort due to the meddling of his brother, Kiriath became more and more withdrawn and spiteful. Thus began the years of teenage angst.
Eventually noting just how miserable her youngest son was, Lysa sent Kiriath to help at his uncle’s farm. Here, unimpeded by his brother, Kiriath had managed to establish a good amount of stable, fulfilling relationships. Though there wasn’t much here that his skillset could be used for, he decided that it was a new experience worth taking a chance on. He never truly mastered the skill, though returned home when it was time with a better outlook on life than he had before.
Presently, Kiriath is moving to a larger city, his sights set on Haense, to get away from his brother and start a life of his own.
