Sat upon the rooftops of a quant and distant shore town it seems a pest of birds has claimed the red shingles painting them black and white. The flock caws and croaks in a bothersome band, barking bafflingly baritone ballads as they bolster a band. “Yes my friends… the time has come.” A suit of armour hums within, clouded by feathers and bird excrement as he ties the last letter to the last rook.

The birds grow anxious, having been terrorising the neighbourhood for the better part of a day until suddenly the hermit arises, hand pointing land inwards as he speaks to his messengers. “Onwards my boys and girls! Fly and find my brethren in every tavern, inn and theatre! Bring them word of new tidings, an era to be born!”

The already chaotic flock turns into a cacophony on screeches, avians flying in a whirring blaze of feathers through the air as they disperse into the evening sky. Days later pamphlets are dispersed around the continent addressed to those daring enough to read them.

“Men and women of song I beckon thee!

The tide of art must be changed!

Step forth into the light with me-

During the time I have arranged.

Many years I’ve ached for a festival for our kin,

So high time it be for us to feast, barter and sin.

Are you an artist of your people and bring happiness where you can?

Are you a rambling rover or perhaps Vailu Valmiran?

Come to the Hyspian bullring and wear thy finest dress,

Masters bring thy pupils- art is for everyone to express.

Can you sing, dance, write, paint or sew?

Become part of the committee and set up a show!”

The lower part of the pamphlet holds a less artistic piece of writing, handing the needed information to those interested.

“I summon all willing artists from any and all vocations to a council so that we may erect a custom that could span across all nations. We can build a day for us all to enjoy our wondrous gifts and extend them to those willing to join us. In two elven days at central nightfall shall we muster. I would like to extend my personal invitations to all, especially the artistic academy aforementioned in the poem. Let me plead with you a story, a dream of an old man that you may now finally get to live.

Fealty to the fallen, Liquor for the living.

    -Un Ami de la Fontaine”

  6. Time to play mister reference man!

Does anybody recall a certain game where people were first hyped up with promises about an experience that hadn't seen changes in its franchise for so incredibly long, only to find out that the majority of what was promised was either half baked,  not thought through well or not included? A game where the developer enforced his innocence and continued to battle for its greatness until all the fun (and in their case money) was sucked out of their fans? If your guess was Fallout 76 then you have officially earned yourself a cookie!

As harsh as it may sound to be compared to Todd Howard it sadly is the case with Vortex, people spend hours at a time zombifying themselves over thwacking a hammer onto a blast furnace to make  the latest dung ingot which sadly really kills any sorts of rp oppertunity because we are, like  mentioned in Lucy's post,  spending so much energy into a draining system that doesn't reward except for, you guessed it, a new dung ingot with sparkles on it!

When it comes to the pvp stuff I am genuinly not going to comment on how it works because I haven't seen ANY pvp since the start of this map. It might be fun for our clickers to have different types of clicks that are slower or faster but it undeniably restricts every part of the player base. Though if a civilised comment would like to explain to me what has happened with the pvp branch of this community then I'd be delighted to hear it.

Indeed the plugin kills rp because believe it or not, but not only people entitled to golemancy knowledge are being held back, but also those that enjoy actual events. Remember that mythical concept? The idea of gathering a group of people to do something that changed a characters perspective or outcome of a plot?Did it die with the dinosaurs? Or has it just become the newest bigfoot?

All jokes aside I am worried about this community because of all this, loyalists fighting with unreasonably harsh comments to protect what is undeniably flawed and the voices of reason being forced to make a fist to make themselves known. I hope this turns out well, because I don't want to make memes about Nicky and Todd Howard being the same person.

  7. Aerilith was drawn to the encampment a final time, he had spent days looking for his bard brother though when he found the lad it was already too late. With tears in his eyes the Mali would set himself next to the tent and look at the shell of Timothee’s undying spirit. He wept and  groaned while grasping onto the grass around him. For the one man that changed his life had departed from his side. “Timo.. ami….merde I-I’ll miss you…”

Several moments passed him weeping before in a shaking tone he’d sing for the golden bard.

“In a time long forgotten, we were scared and alone.

With beasts cold and rotten, made of magic and bone.

There was one man amongst many who I’d never forget,

The bard of Adreo… sang  without pain or regret.

Now the path is dark and I must let you go.

Though you did leave your mark, and I hope that you know.

When the time will come for a new age of song.

We’ll never forget you, your memory stays strong.”

And so the hunter continued to cry over his lost friend, clutching on his own bottle of wine as soft reminder of this legendary man.

We have an entire structure devoted to that happening. You need to have people who actually know what they’re talking about steer the discussion so we can cut out the bullshit. I understand your concern with powergaming and steering the lore somewhere you don’t want it to be and that’s totally fine it’s a valid concern. I just think we’re getting ahead of ourselves and speculating about something that might not happen. I personally have faith in the LT to be able to say “how about we don’t have sniper rifles and lever actions and revolvers”, their techlock works even now. The techlock won’t be removed, the boundaries would be pushed just a little bit farther to give everyone the opportunity to RP something new and unique to their nation states.

Also as a side note I’d be far more concerned with someone propelling a fireball at my head to light me on fire and choke to death than someone shooting me when I’m in full armor from a musket, in fact I’d rather take a shot to the stomach from a musket than have a fireball thrown at me

You’ve got a valid point there, I always saw LoTC magic like something that could be countered by being smart, using different types of weapons or just smacking a mage before they did cast something. My general question now is how do you counter a rifle regardless of what type it is? How can a non-magical or non-rifleman oppose it?

Well the problem was more that it became cheaper for a centralized government to just arm people with guns instead of having feudal lords train for years and years and years on horseback. Centralization and changing political climates resulted in the loss of knights, because they weren’t economical in any capacity for a modern government at the time. If you took a knight and plopped them down 1800 on a battlefield you’d still be hard pressed to kill them.

Logistics killed the knight, not the combustion mechanism of the firearm. That changes in the late 1800’s when you get smokeless powder and guns can have WAY more pressure in the chamber and bore.

There’s this misunderstood notion that there’s a huge leap between the effectiveness of a matchlock and a flintlock, when in reality they would’ve used almost identical powders. In fact most of the early flintlock guns were just matchlocks that were refitted to take a flint on the cock.

My question for this is how is LoTC going to keep that from happening, sure we dont have to spend years training ourselves because its just rp but what WILL keep us from going down that same path? having the knowledge or useage of it for a select group of people like some magics circlejerked before?

  10. 3 minutes ago, EmbryoGod said:

That’s not why knights became extinct as a social class and it isn’t why warfare was changed forever, muskets and armor coexisted at the same time and armor of the era proved effective against them

Of course I knew there was a period where they coexisted, my concern is merely that if we let guns come through now it might evolve into the era where they do go extinct. Once the step is taken some people will just continue to fight over it until it will become like the colonial ages.

  11. I personally am not a big fan of the idea of gunpowder or handheld firearms in LoTC due to the fact that it could be exploited so easily. Imagine someone walking around with ten flintlock pistols strapped onto their body and just starting to fire in any direction. Of course the debate here is what types of firearms would be allowed and how they’d work.

Firearms are cool and I get that but they are the exact reason why plate armour became useless in history. So yes we would be able to make new characters based on gunpowder but at the same time you’d make people such as knights useless. I am not that big of a history person so I don’t know how strong the weapons exactly were but the concern is still there.

  12. Aerilith Oakenarrow looks at the open letter with surprise, reading every word with more and more interest in  the situation, he’d write a note to his ancient brother in arms soon after finishing the reading. “You continue to be the wisest of the pack llir, this is why you are one of few Mali’Fenn to be able to call themselves worthy for a Sentinel trial. you bring me in awe and inspire me, thank you for being my brother.”

  13. Aerilith Oakenarrow, former Grand Huntmaster and Grand Advisor took the note in his hands with a sigh. gazing upon the royal bullshit that was bestowed upon his friend “Why do royalty always have to do stupid things only for more experienced people to react as furiously.... Well it seems like picking sides will once again result in hate.... If only one of them was Oakenarrow....”  He grunts before heading back to his tavern, putting on his smiling mask once more to make his customers feel like nothing is wrong.

  15. Aerilith had traveled through the Wildlands for several days with on his person nothing but his sword and two black arrows with red feathers.

One of these was placed at the roots of a tree where many others were put to rest. all engraved with the names of  fallen friends, the one named Matthias had joined the display and remained there.

The other Arrow was planted near the door of his oldest child, nearly identical to the other one in the Wildlands only this one had another insription.

    “Matthias deserved a better fate.”

  16. To me, a BAD mage rper is someone who uses magic towards every slight inconvenience he/she can find…. “Oh....you said something that I don’t approve upon, EAT FLAMES!” for example. magic is  something very nuanced and therefor not only meant for combat. Of course there are mages that use their magics for bad ends which is just fine, its rp after all and without evil there is no good but its slightly demoralising if you see every mage around you turn into terminators that kill for fun.

The misconception of many rpers is that magic can be used for constructive things as well. I have seen excellent mages that enjoy working together to create wonderful items or even moments of awe.

THIS is what i see as a good mage rper, someone that uses his magics for combat but tries to be creative both in and outside of combat. someone who tends to test new tricks to bring the people around them something new then just the regular fireballs and iceshards flying around their ears.

  17. [!] The streets of Fenn share dark secrets during the night....

The tavern dimmed its light while the last customers walked back to their houses,

Wenches were sent home early while the owner closed the doors for tonight.

One of the dwarves that had been drinking all night waddled on his own through the dark and cold void of the streets, he disappeared into an alley while loudly singing the chanties of great dwarven heroes before morphing his drunken lullaby into

    a shriek of terror.

The following morning people gathered at a horrific sight.

remains of a mutilated body were scattered across the ominous alleyway

and struck fear within the hearts of the people of Fenn.

A guard from the Ivae’Fenn mutters towards his colleague.

“This is the third one this month... why won’t the council do anything about it?”

    “Calm yourself, I am sure they’ll fix this… I think…”

“Hah… sure… when one of their own dies you mean…”

However, while the guards were bickering someone managed to slip past them.

The hooded figure kneeled down at the crime scene and whispered to himself, slightly creeping out the citizens that did notice him.

After this horrible ecperience all people of Fenn recieved a letter from Master Hunter Oakenarrow, the letter was sealed with a wax stamp and very carefully written.

    “Dear citizens of Fenn,

We have heard the news about the disappearances that have happened as of late and wish to say that we are certainly not turning a blind eye to it.

The people of Fenn shouldn’t have to live in fear and that’s why the council has decided to hold a meeting at the tavern in three days

to discuss the matter with all of you. all those that are able to join us are free to

enter the investigation and help us find the ones responsible.

    May Wyvrun guide you.”

Those within the tavern would be enjoying their drinks, draughts of ale and mulled wine making their way throughout the establishment. The friendly barmaid can be found entertaining a slew of drunks by the bar and a few of the local Ivae’fenn practice in the fighting pits. As the evening progressed, one of the local barmaids stumbled upon a table in the corner. An Ivae’fenn officer held his helmet on his knee while he conversed with a dwarf. The two seemed rather caught up with their conversation.

“....T’eh fool h’s been stumblin’ about deh square, mumblin’ and the loike. Almost tripped on deh ol’ statue of t’eh Gran’ Prince…”

“It is indeed suspicious. And you said this man was clothed in a shroud of some sort? Odd, especially after the case of that missing person from the Market District”

The barmaid passed their table, taking the empty tankards and skimming an empty table with a rag. She continued to listen in on their talk.

“T’is madman better be dealt wit’, all these missin’s and the loike. Sometin’ is aloof…”

Deciding it would be best to shake such dark thoughts from her mind, the tavernworker returns to her station.
