Damian was born into the Bourdet family in the city of Aeriel to Aela and Dorian Bourdet. His family consisted of his mother and father, his three older brothers (Ralof (4 years older than Damian), Anton, Faldrus (Anton and Faldrus are twins, 3 years older than Damian) and his younger sister Kaie (2 years younger). The Bourdets ran a small general store selling needs, trinkets, and odds-and-ends to the people of the town. Though his family did not live a life of grandeur, they were content with the life that was bestowed to them.
Since childhood Damian was always finding ways to get into trouble. Envious of the bond his three brothers shared without him, he would often instigate fights between them, fight them himself, and occasionally steal from them (only to later be caught by his parents). Though scornful and envious of his brothers relationship, he cared deeply for Kaie. He felt as if he was her protector and that she was the closest friend he had. They spent almost every moment together, nearly inseparable and very rarely found apart. On the eve of Kaie's birthday, he hears his parents talking of how they would break the news to Kaie that she would not be receiving anything as times have been tough lately, and the money simply was not there. Though infuriating to Damian that his beloved sister would not be having gifts on her birthday and the unfairness of it, he bit his tongue and instead hatched a plan he would put into action the next day.
The next day Damian was out in the market. Stealing the necklace his sister fawned over was not a problem for him as he had stolen from his brothers many times before. The problem came when on his way home to surprise his sister, instead of being caught by his parents, he was confronted by an on duty guard. The guard made mention of how it seemed off that such a young man had been able to purchase such an elegant and expensive necklace. Taken back in shock by the questions the guard continued to ask about the necklace, he turned and bolted the opposite direction but to no avail. Though he tried to put up a fight, he was captured and imprisoned. While awaiting trial only Kaie came from his family to visit him. Kaie told him of how his brothers were impartial with no input on the situation, how his parents felt so embarrassed they talked of disowning him for the shame he brought upon the Bourdet name, and how she did not understand what made him think that this was the way to solve things. Damian said he felt that she deserved everything in the market more than anybody else, and that he wouldn't let prices get in the way of him making her happy. They talked for hours, though it only seemed like minutes when in the midst of Kaie's visit, a guard came in and called Damian to bring him to trial. It was then that Damian was sentenced with banishment from the kingdom for the First Degree Offence of Theft and hauled out without a proper goodbye to his beloved sister and friend. Damian knew there way to get out of it, no way to see his family, and no way to say goodbye. Left with nothing but his favorite red riding hood and the clothes on his back, this was the start of Damian's journey as a wandering thief, only looking for a haul big enough to fill the void he lost that day, hoping that it will some day bring him to see Kaie once more.
