  1. not a big fan of this overhaul of the lore post, considering the last one was original, and this one is a direct ripoff of The Artists & Shamblers CA from 2021 with the names changed

take time to familiarise yourself with the server, the lore, and the community so you can produce some well-written and original lore

edit: this post appears to have been re-rehauled to something appearing more original

    Item Description

    Bestowment

Bestowment is an immaterial process that The Fool can take once they've found the right host for Bigtime - the epitome of clownery and foolery.

    Spoiler

Bestowment is a non-combative, freeform process (with a minimum of [3] emotes) requiring IC and OOC consent in which The Fool and their chosen subject link with a magical tell (and any other harmless, illusory aesthetics of choice). This process, for its duration and some moments after, infuses both with a subtle merriness, which they may embrace should they consciously allow it to do so.

At the end of this process, the subject is made a host, and is immediately made into their Bigtime form.

    Redlines

-Bestowment is an entirely non-combative ritual between only The Fool and an ICly and OOCly willing participant.

-Bestowment may only be conducted whilst Bigtime is without a host (the host PKs, willingly relinquishes it, or becomes incompatible).

-Bigtime may only be conducted whilst The Fool is in 2nd or 3rd phase.

-Should combat break out the Bestowment is disrupted and unsuccessful.

-A record of Bigtime hosts (with the current one being marked as such) should be kept in the spoilered section of Generational Talent. An Sreq must be made whenever Bigtime is connected or relinquished.

    Effect(s) of the Artifact:

    0287dd2ef4cab0b0af8b787f4fce647b.jpg

Bigtime is a gift bestowed by The Fool to Showlocke, formed in part from his psyche, and utilising the powers of transmogrification and enchantment to create a second form to inhabit, fit for clown antics and all it ensues.

Bigtime is a ‘role’ to better solidify one's position as the big clown which will, if and when Showlocke passes, be passed down so that the legacy of Clownhood may carry on.

    Bigtime’s Anatomy

The appearance of Bigtime is drastically different from its originating form. Upon transformation, the following traits are set: Bigtime may be any height from 7’0-7’5, Bigtime’s skin may be any bright colour, and may drastically alter their facial proportions. The voice remains largely unchanged, though may be lended extra depth or colour. These changes are purely aesthetic, and once a form is chosen for Bigtime by its host, all features may not be altered except by external means such as harm, alchemy, other magic and the like. Funny clown props are encouraged, though no matter the change it may not escape the constants of Bigtime’s form: Irremovable Clown paint and a vibrant clown nose of any colour.

When casting, confetti and/or colourful mists may display, along with minor, unobscuring sounds.

Transformation into & out of Bigtime takes [2] emotes non-combatively, and [4] in combat. In this process, colourful mists swirl and wrap around the host, before revealing Bigtime on the final emote.

    Exhaustion:

Should Bigtime be continuously used for 2 OOC days, take up to 5 moderate-severe blunt hits (without dying) in an encounter, or cast more than 5 Bigtime spells in an OOC day, the form warps and shrink. This form takes on the same appearance of Bigtime, but is 3'0, may only use Bigtime spells marked as [NC], and may not transform back into Bigtime or their normal form for an OOC day. Due to the decreased height, they have strength equivalent to a child of their normal race.

Bigtime spells are only accessible whilst in Bigtime.

    Juggling Trick [NC]

For ease of sleight of hand, acrobatics, juggling, and the like.

    Spoiler

Bigtime may manifest [2] more arms to sprout from their sides, dividing their total strength between them.  These should be of roughly equal size and proportion to Bigtime’s normal arms, though may be of any colour(s), and may take on the texture of rubber, paper, or a similarly light material.

In the case of combat, they demanifest.

    Redlines

-These extra arms don’t allow Bigtime to carry anymore weight than they’d be able to normally.

-Functionally, this is only useful for tricks. They can’t exist whilst combat does, and don’t grant any additional strength.

    Forced Joke [NC]

A key tool in a Clown’s arsenal for when a joke doesn’t land as they’d hoped.

    Spoiler

Non-combatively, Bigtime may launch a ray (or several) of ethereal confetti towards up to 3 targets, with the speed of an arrow. This takes place over the course of [2] emotes, the first where confetti gathers around their hand, and the 2nd where it launches forth in precise streams towards its targets, with the speed of an arrow.

Any who it hits is forced to laugh for at least [1] emote, though may prolong it as they wish.

This may only be used once per encounter.

    Redlines

-The forced laughter isn’t debilitating. Should any danger be put upon someone made to laugh they may recover instantly and without repercussion (e.g a sword is drawn, a push, etc).

    Spook ‘em [C]

Once per encounter, Bigtime’s host may draw from their inner psyche to warp Bigtime’s appearance into something more frightful; designed specifically off their fears.

    Spoiler

Bigtime’s appearance may be warped in any frightening, harmless way, so long as it’s inspired by his currently existing fears (such as arms becoming arachnid-like, spiders crawling over, etc). Furthermore, upon transformation a 1d20 must be rolled, at which point, should Bigtime roll a 5 or lower, he is immobilised by fear to such a degree that he may take no directly harmful actions, and is riddled by hallucinations of his greatest fears.

This takes [3] emotes to transform, in which the changes reveal and manifest.

    Redlines

-If Bigtime’s owner doesn’t have any fears for some reason, then this form becomes null.

-The transformation is exclusively aesthetic, and only alters/adds cosmetics. Fear of the deep ocean does not turn Bigtime into a deep ocean.

    Clowncode [NC]

A great tool for smooth performances and communication in a crowded tent.

    Spoiler

Over [3] emotes Bigtime may conduct telepathy with up to [2] people in #rp range, unobstructed by any physical barrier, or within line of sight.

To initiate this, they must first honk their nose, at which point it’ll grow twice the size (for the duration of telepathy) and an ethereal red clown nose will form upon the participant(s) (or some other clown-y accessory should they already have a clown nose, such as a party hat or clown makeup). Whilst telepathy is engaged, only movement and menial tasks may be carried out (E.g no sword swinging, fist throwing, or spellcasting).

In an emote, only [10] words and an emotion may be transferred from any participant.

    Redlines

-Should a telepathy participant already be wearing a red nose, a similarly ethereal different accessory appears, such as clown makeup or a party hat.

-Bigtime may not disguise their voice, and telepathy doesn’t give any mental insight into anyone. It’s ‘normal’ communication.

-Telepathy may not be forced upon someone. They may end it as swiftly as it starts.

    Conjure balloons [NC]

A delightful spell to bring in audiences and spark spectacles.

    Spoiler

The user may summon balloons from the palm of their hand! This takes [1] emote per [1] balloon.  The balloon can be customised to the user's desire as they cast it (such as a longer balloon for creating balloon animals, or different colours and patterns on said balloon).

    Redlines

-Any summoned balloons cannot be over 1 cubic metre in total volume.

-Balloons conjured are done so from somewhere on Bigtime’s person, and may not appear in a random empty space.

    Balloon Effects

Any clown worth their confetti should have a handful of tricks up their sleeve; when it comes to Bigtime, balloon transmogrification is the enchantment, to spark from the most mundane of things a magical effect.

    Spoiler

    Bubble Wrap [C]

Over the course of [4] emotes, Bigtime may conjure ethereal confetti around [1] balloon within [10] blocks of themself. Over the course of these emotes the confetti slowly surrounds the balloon and smothers it until it pops; this pop stuns anyone (excluding Bigtime) within [7] blocks of the popped balloon for [1] emote, as it causes a tremendous laughter to ring through the area, breaking concentration of anyone who can hear such.

Bigtime must wait [2] emotes to start casting Bubble Wrap again.

    Redlines

-Bigtime may not choose who this affects. It's anyone within [10] blocks, excluding themself.

-Should the balloon be mundanely popped beforehand, this effect doesn't take place, and the spell is nullified.

    Floatie [C]

Over the course of [3] emotes, Bigtime may wreathe a balloon in ethereal confetti and cause the air around it to visibly cling to the balloon. On the [3]rd emote, this tell remains and the balloon becomes especially light for [5] emotes, able to hold the weight of [1] person and float them safely downwards.

Furthermore, whilst holding the balloon jumps go [2] blocks higher than normal.

At the end of the [5] emotes the balloon pops.

    Redlines

-May only hold the weight of one person.

-May not get anyone anywhere they can’t go mechanically.

-Only lasts for [5] emotes, including the [3]rd emote.

    Spark [NC]

Over the course of [3] emotes, faint glows and sparks gather in up to [5] balloons within #rp range of Bigtime. On the [3]rd emote, these balloons ignite in any bright colour, giving off harmless heat, and emitting [5x5] blocks of light for [3] emotes after.

    Redlines

-No white, black, or grey flame.

-The flames conjured are entirely harmless; unable to burn anyone or anything.

    Soul Preservation

The Fool enchants the soul of any who bear Bigtime to allow their transformation; like the patron she is, so prone to jealousy, the catch is that any deific intervention is entirely incompatible, along with any soul corrupting magics. As such, only voidal and miscellaneous magics (that harmlessly harness the soul or some other natural essence directly) are permitted, along with Blood Magic and Seer.

    Redlines

-Having the Bigtime mart doesn’t bar someone from connecting to an incompatible magic, but to do so will trigger Generational Talent, stripping its host of Bigtime, and returning it to the hands of The Fool as detailed.

-On the whole, this bars any deific magics (excluding Seer) and all dark magics (excluding Blood Magic). Equally soul affecting feats count, and it bars any undead races.

-Lesser souls are compatible, though races without souls are incompatible, as there is nothing to latch onto.

    Generational Talent

When the host of Bigtime dies or otherwise relinquishes their form by will, Bigtime becomes without a host, and Bestowment may be used once more on any willing participant.

When Bigtime takes a new host, its form is typically inspired by or (with OOC permission) identical to the new one, ‘lest an entirely new slate is willed for Bigtime. Furthermore, when Bigtime, its host may take fragments of the previous host’s personality.

    Bigtime Hosts

    Spoiler

    - Showlocke [MC: Showlocke] 10/19/23 -> 03/09/24 [Relinquished]

    Red Lines of the Artifact:

    Spoiler

-There may only be 1 host of Bigtime at a single time.

-The host of Bigtime must willingly Bestowment, which must be conducted by The Fool. This entails IC and OOC consent, aware of all it entails.

-The host may not have any deific, dark, or soul-marking/corrupting magics. To pick an incompatible magic or race would forfeit Bigtime, and free up Bestowment for The Fool so they may choose another. Lesser souls are compatible, though races without souls are incompatible, as there is nothing to latch onto.
-Should the host be disconnected or relinquish Bigtime for any reason, The Fool is not made aware as to why (though they aware of the potential reasons). The Fool cannot 'sense' someone's soul in any way, pre, during, or post Bigtime.

-The appearance of Bigtime is largely aesthetic. They may be wider or thinner, but in combat they become no more strong or weak, nor dexterous/durable.

-Once a host designs on a form for Bigtime, it may not be changed (except for clothes). Successors may make a new form, make alterations to the form, or keep the same one with permission from the original host.

-A host 'dying' means a PK. If resurrected by the monks, it doesn't change hands.

-A record of Bigtime hosts (with the current one being marked as such) should be kept in the spoilered section of Generational Talent. An Sreq must be made whenever Bigtime is connected or relinquished.

Explanation of the effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

Bigtime is a form crafted by The Fool out of random household junk from a circus owner, and a dash of transmogrification (through the Djinn spell MArt Creation) to give its first host a way to truly become the big clown boss. Further than this, it allows Bigtime to become something past just one person, but entire generations of people regardless of bloodline, letting The Fool choose so that it can always be in the hands of those who choose fun.

Its general abilities tread the lines of typical clownery - such as conjure balloon - and take it a step further to enable spectacles and smoothly executed performances, in the line of abilities such as Spark and Clowncode. Bigtime is largely an enhancer to what might already be done and, though it's capable of combat, such is barely enhanced, and its hosts are kept from anything much greater, due to The Fool's jealous guarding of their soul.

Do you understand that there is a three-month cooldown between posting MArts per-player, and that cooldown begins upon acceptance? (Denial does not trigger a cooldown period.)

    - IMPRACTICAL ON LAND. When in CRP on land, one’s armor will weigh them down significantly- making their attacks far easier to dodge while oncoming strikes are far more likely to hit. This cannot be circumvented with the use of MAs or FAs.

Further than this you should give a more measurable limit (reduce the amount of blocks someone can walk in CRP and similar stuff).

    - Takes 3 emotes during combat to equip ( Pull on Suit > Strap up Suit > Don/Affix Helmet )

I can't imagine any situation in which one might need to put a Sinker suit on in combat. I think it would be best to make it more emotes (5, perhaps) or extremely impractical to the point of impossibility.

    - A suit of ferrum will on average sustain 2 hits on the same spot before becoming a leak. This durability may be reduced within the midnight or twilight zone due to pressure at the ET's discretion.

I'd advise you increase the amount of hits a spot can take, or give a way to patch it up/delay the flooding by some emotes. It seems highly impractical to be able to explore the depths (if there are any) but only be able to take a few bashes and then (very probably) die.

    - A suit Descendant to Olog sized suit may flood with water

Just say 'A suit of any descendant-like size', unless you intend different emote counts for particularly shorter things (e.g halflings), in which case a rough emote count would be helpful (3-4, perhaps).

    2 hours ago, SlitheryC1 said:

    - Requires no FAs or MAs to create, only ICly gained knowledge.

I'd advise that you stress it must be gained through IC knowledge, as it seems more like a sidenote to 'No apps required'

I think the lore is fine, though extremely niche, though I'm not sure we have oceans anywhere near deep enough to have the Twilight Zone (or any particular part of this) be a worry. I always like seeing something largely for exploration for its own sake though, it's nice.

  4. The Fool’s Talent Show

[!] Across the lands an extremely bright missive is pinned.

    0287dd2ef4cab0b0af8b787f4fce647b.jpg

Recently I, Bells, have fallen ill and bedridden. I seek a cure.

It’s for this reason that I will be hosting a talent show!

It will be hosted at the Bard Camp, Vailu Valmiran (I have found myself too ill to seek permission from its wonderful, charming, loving, and welcoming Headmistress, so let this serve as such).

I’m seeking all bards, performers, and otherwise artists of any variety, to gather and bring their talent to be judged, so that I might be cured of this cruel illness.

To those who heal me I’ll give a reward most valuable.

    Talent Show Rules

    1: It must be fabulous

2: It must be authentic and original

3: It must be linked in some way to beauty, life, or creation

    ---

    OOC Details:

    Spoiler

The talent show will be hosted this Saturday (10th) 5pm EST, at Vailu Valmiran, which is a bard camp on the roadside near Nor’Asath.
Contact Olandyr#8128 if you have any questions!

You don't need to sign up, just show up!

  5. Love what you've done with it, go Glyphs <3

My only criticisms might be that, in their current state, Egregores don't seem to have wild usage (and feels kinda pressured in usage with its emote count). I'd suggesting adding an OOC consent clause so Egregores might stick around more for interactions where everyone agrees, like a player event.

Also, some more clarification on an Ascetic's capability with Glyph of Weaving would be nice.

  6. I seriously love this! It's a nice effort on building on old Naz lore and adding a lot more non-combative and freeform stuff. I really enjoy the aesthetic you've got going on.

I think it might've been nice to see some more non-combative spells, though, to lend some more casual 'flair'.
