You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Gaius's eyes would flicker between the hag and the cushion as he paused for a moment, trying to gauge her intent.
With a long, tired exhale and a shrug, he'd lower himself roughly down onto the cushion, crossing his legs to sit.
"You've been... expecting me?" He'd shake his head, a weary smile creeping across his face. "Right... well, I'm Gaius, although I s'pose you already knew that."
He'd blink a few times, looking at the hag for a moment in confusion. "I am by circumstance a traveller, seeking order and perhaps a taste of fortune."
"I left a sheltered life amongst the Heartlanders, my family (not played by any existing characters or featuring in any existing lore) plied their trade as architects, helping build the wonders of the realm."
He'd shrug, looking down for a moment, his expression seeming slightly troubled. "Unfortunately, the coin became ever scarcer, and on occassion they dabbled in the... more unruly avenues of procuring it."
"In this, I was of course involved." He'd nod, turning a little pale. "It is a life I hope to leave behind. I intend to start anew, furthering my education in pursuit of scholarship."
"If fortune favours it, I shall publish a variety of tomes and manuscripts, perhaps founding a guild with which to fund them." He'd pause. "Ah, well. I s'pose it's all dreams for now."
