How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: You avoid powergaming by not doing highly unrealistic or unfair actions that otherwise wouldn't normally be possible. Always leave room for the other person to be able to fairly respond back in RP.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts the concept of fair roleplay because you would essentially be using information your character otherwise wouldn't have learned naturally via in-game teachings or formats.

Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example: "All throughout my childhood, mother had forced me to stay home to help tend to the house and my father whilst she worked to maintain us due to him being in a deep slumber. My father for some unbeknownst reason slipped into a profound slumber a few months prior to my birth but has since awoken and is the man standing outside the tent, he has since lost his memories and we're traveling all around the world in search of a cure to help regain them. Growing up my mother instilled into me the little bit of information she knew about my father and his family and about our heritage as those who carry elven blood. My father was supposedly from a proud aristocratic snow elf family called the Tathvir’s, but he was since estranged from them and had no contact with them. I've always wondered what snow elves were like, the only one that was really around was always asleep. Do you know where I may find any information on them?"

"Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…
